Chapter 164: One of My Dreams
I never imagined that I would enroll in a school as a student, and so I involuntarily asked to confirm what I heard.
Nevertheless, it’s true that for Kaisar-sama, having me enroll—even for a short term—may reduce the hassle and make it easier to maintain a cover.
Already having a personal attendant accompanying him to school, bringing in another outsider would surely draw attention. Just thinking about it makes it clear how conspicuous we would be.
Until yesterday, the idea that I, at this age, would experience life as a student, even for a short time, was beyond my wildest dreams. I still wonder if it’s all a lie.
After all, I am an orphan and had always believed that gaining an education as a student was out of the question. Seeing students on their way to and from school in the early morning and late afternoon, I used to feel a tinge of envy but quickly suppressed those feelings.
Now, looking at students doesn’t stir any emotions, but it’s simply because I’ve given up on the idea. The prospect of being a student, even shortly, is genuinely thrilling to me.
“For now, we’ve had a busy day, and tomorrow starts early too. Make sure to sleep according to the servant’s lights-out schedule, alright?”
“… Y-yes!”
I respond, full of enthusiasm. However, the excitement kept me awake, making it difficult to fall asleep that night.
◆
Morning.
Rubbing my sleepy eyes, I managed to get up and finish the usual morning routine—brushing teeth, breakfast, and so on.
I am currently in the same carriage as Kaisar-sama, on my way to the school where I will be temporarily enrolled.
Had I been alone, the strong tension might have made me nauseous. But since Kaisar-sama is with me, I’m not that nervous. On the contrary, I was filled with excitement and anticipation.
“Are you really that happy to enroll in school as a student?”
“Yes! Absolutely! Being a commoner, and especially an orphan, it’s like a dream come true! While some commoners might get the chance if they excel in magic or intelligence or if their parents are wealthy merchants, orphans don’t even have those chances!”
“I see… Well, it’s better than you hating the idea. In any case, although I don’t think it will happen, just stay close to me. You never know when an attack might happen.”
