Chapter 154: How Many Times Have I Almost Come?
“So, what will you do, Lucien Du Plessis-sama?”
“Just let it be.”
“Are you sure?”
“We can give that fool a lecture when she gets back.”
My subordinate and secretary questioned me.
This man has been working behind the scenes as my right-hand man to puppeteer Queen Blanche, but he’s a bit slow on the uptake. While it can be frustrating, it’s partly thanks to him that I’ve become the de-facto leader of this country. I would like him to continue being a bit slow.
I had originally thought about going to see Queen Blanche myself, but considering how that would look to a third party, it seemed obviously unnatural. If both Queen Blanche and I, the Chancellor, were to leave the capital, who would govern? My role exists partly for when Queen Blanche is not around, so my absence would look particularly strange.
That’s why I was able to rise as both the Chancellor and the one who puppeteered Queen Blanche into effectively becoming the leader of this country. It also allowed me to delegate tasks to Queen Blanche and move freely. Naturally, that means I’ll have to handle the tasks she should be doing when she’s not around, which is rather inconvenient.
Now, how shall I lecture Queen Blanche? I thought about this as I reviewed the documents and stamped my approval.

[Gaius’ POV]
“Hey, wouldn’t Your Majesty Gaius want to know!? The real mastermind behind this prostitution and human trafficking! I’ll tell you if you pardon my crimes!”
In front of me, Prevost clung desperately, spitting as he begged for a deal. His expression and desperation stimulated my emotions, making me feel like I’ve been on the edge many times.
Because his life was on the line, he became desperate. That desperation allowed me to see a different side of him, stimulating my emotions intensely.
