- Chapter 41: Duel (Tsukimiya Shiika PoV) - (Yandere vs Yandere)
On the town’s outskirts, there lies a general hospital’s ruins.
A place rumored by locals to be haunted, where no one dares to approach.
In its lobby, I stood stood opposite a girl adorned in “landmine” fashion.
Her cheeks framed by a sharply trimmed princess cut.
Eyes accentuated with eyeshadow and under-eye bags.
Clad in black and monochrome attire.
Such was the—Hanazono Mari-san, wielding a kitchen knife in her hand.
I encountered her around noon today.
Caught by the surveillance I had spread across the town these past few days.
I approached Hanazono-san, declaring myself to be Aiji-kun’s girlfriend, and warned her not to come near him anymore.
It was a provocation disguised as a warning.
By claiming to be Aiji-kun’s girlfriend, she became as infuriated as I had hoped.
Her hostility laid bare. We decided to change locations. And so, we arrived at this abandoned hospital.
“Here, we can talk as much as we want.”
I said, then continued,
“Hanazono-san, you once lost your temper and stabbed Aiji-kun in the stomach, didn’t you?”
“…Aiji-kun who doesn’t love me is not Aiji-kun. I don’t need such an Aiji-kun.”
“How shallow.”
“…Huh?”
“Were you merely seeking someone convenient to affirm your existence? You weren’t looking at Aiji-kun.”
Projecting her ideals onto Aiji-kun.
That’s not love.
“After all, I must rid Aiji-kun of bad bugs clinging to him.”
“…Don’t speak as if he’s your possession.”
Hanazono-san’s voice muttered, filled with dark and fierce anger.
“Hehe, Aiji-kun belongs to me, you know?”
Good response. Just one more push.
I smiled provocatively.
“Unfortunately, you’re just a woman of the past.”
“—!?”
Hanazono-san’s eyes flared upon hearing that.
“…Annoying person, annoying person, annoying person, annoying person…”
Muttering words like a curse, she then,
“…I will never accept you as Aiji-kun’s lover!”
Letting her emotions take over, she lunged at me with the knife.
…Such a cute child.
I removed a box cutter from my uniform pocket, revealing the blade.
“Ahahaha! A box cutter, really!? Such a tiny, cute blade can’t possibly stand against my thick knife, right!?”
Laughing loudly, she swung her knife heavily down.
But.
My cutter’s blade precisely stopped it.
“…Huh?”
“Hehe. What’s the matter? That’s it?”
As I smiled at her, Hanazono-san stepped back as if overwhelmed.
“…! It, it’s just a coincidence. It’s impossible. Stopping a knife blade with a cutter can’t be done!”
She said, as if convincing herself, and attacked again.
Swinging the knife wildly in all directions.
I dodged her furious assault with graceful movements.
“Why won’t you hit…!?”
“Because you’re just swinging blindly. That’s not scary at all.”
—Perhaps it’s about time.
Seizing the moment as Hanazono-san’s movements dulled from fatigue, I dove into the range of her thrust.
Utilizing my left hand and forearm, I deflected the knife’s trajectory.
With a karate chop, I knocked the knife out of her hand and kicked it far away.
Just as Hanazono-san gasped and was about to make her next move—the blade of my box cutter was already pressed against her neck.
“Make even the slightest move, and I’ll slice your carotid artery.”
“…!”
“If you get it, raise your hands and kneel down right where you are.”
Hanazono-san gasped for air, raised her hands, and then collapsed to her knees, powerless.
The hostility from moments ago was nowhere to be found.
Her eyes were filled with fear as she looked at me.
“You’re more fragile than I thought.”
A smile escaped me due to the lack of resistance.
Standing in front of Hanazono-san, I exposed the blade of my cutter and pressed its chilly, flat side against her neck.
“The one who attacked first was you, Hanazono-san. No matter how much I retaliate, it’s considered self-defense, right?”
She let out a small, frightened gasp.
“Sorry, it was all my fault. I’ll do anything, even prostrate myself, so please, could you let me go…?”
“No, you’re misunderstanding. That’s not it.”
I shook my head to clear Hanazono-san’s misunderstanding.
“I don’t dislike you, nor do I hate you. Just because you apologize doesn’t mean I’ll change how I treat you.
As long as you exist, Aiji-kun will suffer from your presence. Therefore, you must experience pain.
To the extent that you can never return to this town. So you can’t remember Aiji-kun. So much so that you’d hate it.”
Realizing what was about to happen to her, Hanazono-san’s face turned pale.
“Do you really think you can do this…? If Aiji-kun finds out, he’ll surely be scared.
To know his lover has such a cruel nature.
Right. He might even break up with you if he learns of your true nature. Are you okay with being feared, hated?”
She must have said this, trying to make me hesitate.
But.
“Yeah, that’s fine.”
I answered without any hesitation.
“Hanazono-san. I only wish for Aiji-kun’s happiness.
So, it doesn’t matter if he dislikes or loves me.
Even if he hates me, despises me, or fears me.
As long as Aiji-kun is happy, that’s enough for me to be satisfied. …That’s how I show my love for him.”
Hanazono-san had a look of incomprehension.
Overwhelmed by my form of love.
It’s okay if she doesn’t understand.
Neither she nor any other girl nor even Aiji-kun himself.
“Don’t worry. You’ll soon be incapable of thinking about anything at all.”
As Hanazono-san, looking like she might cry at any moment, gasped for air, I smiled at her and aligned the exposed blade of my cutter against the nape of her neck.
And just as I was about to carry out the act—
“Wait!”
A voice echoed.
Loud enough to fill the entire lobby.
There was no mistaking it.
It was a voice I heard almost every day.
