I slowly sat up while rubbing my sleepy eyes. Lately, I’d been behaving myself, but if I slept too long, Luna-san would come wake me up in some bizarre way, so I had to make sure I got up before then. Last time, she stuck her finger in my mouth and I seriously thought something terrible was happening.

“Wait, huh? Where’s Maru-chan-san? And… Where am I?”

I opened my eyes fully and looked around. I wasn’t in the usual nature-filled room I recognized. For some reason, I was inside  a large box.

Knock knock…

I was surrounded by wooden walls with barely enough space to roll over. In front of me was a door that even I could probably open with ease, but was I even allowed to do that? If only Lammy-san or Aura-san were here with me… It’d make me feel a lot safer.

(Puuu… Zzz)

“Oh, you’re here.”

I gently peeked into my chest pocket and there was Hamlin. Hamlin was sleeping soundly and peacefully. Maybe he liked this spot? Lately, I’d found mysterious seeds stuffed in there or caught him dozing off like this. So cute.

“There, there.”

I softly stroked his tiny head with my finger. The squishy softness calmed my nerves.

“Man… Waking up in an unfamiliar place again? How many times has this happened already?”

I was honestly getting tired of this routine… Maybe I should start using Maru-chan as a futon from now on when I sleep. Warm, fluffy, and came with built-in auto-defense too.

『Ken… Come on already… Let me see him!』

“Hm? What’s that… I hear voices.”

I perked up my ears. On the other side of the wall, I could hear noisy murmurs stacking on top of each other. Judging by the sheer number of overlapping voices, it wasn’t just one or two people.

“What if… They’re holding one of those slave auctions you always see in fantasy stories…”

Worried thoughts crept in, but more than that, my stomach loudly reminded me that it wanted food now.

Beyond the glass wall, people were crammed together like rush hour commuters. All of them were staring at me with bloodshot eyes—no one even blinking. It was terrifying.

Three sides of the room were glass, and dozens of hands were slamming and pounding on them with excitement. It felt like I was being surrounded by some wild tribe just after a successful hunt. I didn’t fully understand it, but maybe this was part of their culture? Some kind of welcome ritual? I think I saw something like this once in a documentary at the hospital.

『You fools! Didn’t you read the rules?! BANNED! You’re all banned, every last one of youuuuu!』

Suddenly, Luna-san appeared from nowhere and began pummeling the front-row crowd. Some of the people who’d just been smiling now had their arms twisted in impossible directions, and red liquid splattered the glass. Simply said, it was utter chaos.

“Come to think of it… It looks like all the people here are women, huh? No men at all… Actually, now that I think about it, I haven’t seen a single guy since coming to this world.”

I got curious and looked around, but yeah—No guys anywhere… Probably? I couldn’t say for sure, because some people were covered head-to-toe in fur, and others looked like giant bugs. My sense as a human from earth couldn’t really make accurate calls here. They might be male for all I knew. 

“Well, no point worrying about that. I don’t know anything about this world anyway.”

It had been almost a month since I got transported here, but I still didn’t understand what kind of world this was. Honestly, I’d love to go out and have an adventure, but I knew I was weaker than a hamster. I’d probably get instantly killed in the first patch of tall grass. I used to think those RPG NPCs who told you “Don’t go into the tall grass until you can fight!” were just annoying, but now I totally understand what they were warning us about.

“Oh, good morning, Hamlin-san.”

As I patted the newly awakened Hamlin-san, he energetically climbed up onto my head. So lively right after waking up…I was kind of jealous of his energy. 

“Alright, what can I do now…? Oh, right! I should try to show them I’m friendly!”

I had a hunch this place must be some kind of exhibit, like a zoo, maybe? It seemed I was being treated like a rare animal in this world.

Even if they took me in for some ulterior motives, the fact still remained that they had cured my long-standing illness. I had to repay that debt and in order to do that… I had to do my best to meet their expectations!

All I did was wave my hands a little, and someone fainted, while the roar of cheers shaking the air blasted through the glass. Getting this kind of reaction was kinda funny. Their reaction made me feel like I had become a pop idol or something.

『Seriously… I’ve set up the barriers, wrote clear rules about not overstimulating Ken-chan, and none of it mattered. Guess I’ll dig a big pit later and make a viewing platform farther away.』

Aura-san ducked through the one wall without glass and entered the room.
