ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
A ruined city stretched before them, an abandoned town where no one lived. There, we stood facing each other.
“Heh, so you actually showed up instead of running away. Color me surprised.”
“There was never a reason to run.”
I exchanged a few words with Mia, who stood directly in front of me. As always, she looked down on me with complete disdain etched on her face…
“Hahaha! You shitty Supporter! Get ready! Because today, I’m going to trample you all!!”
Before I could react to Iizuka’s words, someone else beat me to it.
“Hah!? You think you can just talk like that, you damn undercut bastard!? The ones doing the trampling will be us, you piece of shit!!”
“The hell did you just say, you outdated pompadour freak!? Watch your mouth when you’re talking to a Seeker!!”
Riku and Iizuka immediately got into a heated argument, grabbing each other by the collar.
I had expected this. Both of them had fiery tempers. It was only natural this would happen.
“Please stop.”
A female Guild Association member stepped in, pulling the two apart.
“If you harm your opponent before the duel begins, you will be disqualified on the spot.”
“Tch!!”
“Tch!!”
Both of them clicked their tongues in unison and stepped back.
“…Who are you?”
Isshiki-san directed the question at a silver-haired man from Fenrir whom I didn’t recognize.
“My name is Ul. I’m a newcomer. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Sae Isshiki-san…”
“……”
Something about him felt off. He had an air of composure, yet there was something elusive about him, like he was shrouded in enigma.
“Now then, let me explain the rules once again.”
A Guild Association member began outlining the details of the guild duel.
“First, each participant will use this Transfer Crystal.”
The association member held up a blue crystal. It was a Transfer Crystal. Although commonly known as an item for escaping dungeons, its actual ability wasn’t strictly “to escape the dungeon,” but rather “to teleport to a designated location.” In other words, by marking random spots within the ruins, they could transport us to those locations.
“The duel will officially begin the moment you are teleported somewhere within the ruins. We will be monitoring all participants using the spell 【Scout Bee】. If a participant is deemed incapacitated, a Guild Association member will retrieve them and transfer them to the designated safe zone.”
“I have a question.”
I raised my hand.
“Yes, what is it?”
“Could you clarify the exact criteria for determining someone as ‘incapacitated’?”
“Incapacitation is defined as the loss of combat ability, injuries preventing mobility, or verbal surrender. However, we may also intervene at our discretion even if none of these conditions are explicitly met.”
“I see…”
“Naturally, lethal actions are strictly prohibited.”
So, trying to make our enemy lose consciousness or breaking both legs would be acceptable.
“Additionally, the area you are currently in will serve as the safe zone. As you can see, this whole area is enclosed by this barrier.”
The space around us, roughly the size of ten ruined buildings, was enclosed in an orange barrier. There were several facilities inside, including what seemed to be a communication room and a medical treatment area. This barrier was likely created using Boundary Crystals.
“The time limit is 60 minutes. If time runs out, victory will be determined by the number of remaining participants. If both teams have the same number, the match will be declared a draw and considered void. That concludes the rule explanation. If there are no further questions, we will now begin the Guild Duel.”
Since no one asked any questions, the three guild association members each prepared two transfer crystals.
“It seems there are no questions. Now, I will activate the transfer crystals.”
One of the members held up a crystal and infused it with magic. Transfer crystals had a slight delay between being infused with magic and activation. During that time, I turned my attention to Iizuka.
“If we win, you’re letting Kisaragi go, Iizuka.”
“You guys have a zero percent chance of winning, dumbass.”
Iizuka stuck out his tongue, taunting us. I let out a small laugh at that.
“Iizuka, I’ll say this now.”
“Hah?”
“You won’t be able to lay a hand on me. I’ll crush you completely.”
A vein bulged on Iizuka’s forehead.
“A damn Supporter like you? I’ll make you regret ever standing against me for the rest of your life!”
With that, Iizuka turned away from us.
“You guys.”
Abisu stood in front of the three of us.
“Go in with confidence. After all, you all managed to wound me.”
Abisu held up her arm, showing the bandage on her elbow. That was the wound the three of us had inflicted together—using my prosthetic arm.
Abisu had been overwhelmingly strong. We hadn’t underestimated her, but she was far stronger than we had imagined. She had once said we could put up a fight against her if we had OOPArts, but that was ridiculous. Sin and Punishment, her OOPArt had no clear counter.
“You didn’t have to keep that wound on purpose.”
Isshiki-san said. It was a three-centimeter gash. A simple healing spell could have closed it instantly.
“I couldn’t do that. This wound is proof of your efforts.”
Abisu gently stroked the bandage, looking pleased.
“Well then, it’s about time.”
The crystals in the guild members’ hands glowed brightly. They would activate any moment now.
“Off you go.”
“Yeah.”
“Alright!”
“We’ll be back.”
After exchanging parting words with Abisu, we were teleported to our designated area. For an instant, my vision darkened. When I came to, I was standing at a crossroad, in front of a broken traffic light.
“Alright.”
I activated 【Presence Concealment】 and slipped into the ruins to hide. I climbed up to the third floor of an abandoned building and scanned the area from a window. Using 【Scout Bee】 and 【Far Sight】, I began searching for enemies.
“Found one.”
I spotted a figure inside a ruined building three hundred meters ahead. Keeping myself hidden, I closed the distance.
On the fifth floor of another abandoned building, I approached the person from behind—
Thud.
A magic circle activated beneath my feet.
“Whoa!?”
My body suddenly felt heavier, my feet stuck to the ground.
“【Seal of Gravity】…!”
【Seal of Gravity】 was a trap spell. It created a magic circle on the ground, floor, or walls, which made anyone who touched it heavier. The circle was invisible until activated, at which point it would glow before disappearing after a single use. The person I had found—Sae Isshiki—turned to face me with cold eyes.
“What are you doing?”
So she had set this up in advance in case of a surprise attack from behind. As expected from Sae Isshiki.
“My apologies. I underestimated you. I didn’t expect you to have traps set already…”
“【Seal of Gravity】 has low mana consumption, so I can set several of them. I’ve placed them all over the place.”
Isshiki-san raised her hand, dispelling 【Seal of Gravity】.
“At least I’m glad I managed to meet up with you.”
“…Is that so.”
For some reason, Isshiki-san blushed slightly before looking away. I see. Even someone as composed as her must be feeling the pressure of the Guild Duel.
“Shall we go get them?”
“Yes. While searching for Riku, let’s take down as many enemies as we can.”
This was a good start. Now that I had met up with Isshiki-san, we wouldn’t lose unless something truly unexpected happened.
Now then, let the hunt begin.
