ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Several days later. As announced in advance, the time for the Migdal to surface into normal space was drawing near. A tension unlike usual permeated the ship, and this was no time for carefree sex as always. With nothing else to do, I decided to head to the bridge.
“Prushe. Would it be all right if I stopped by the bridge?”
“If it is at your request, Touya-san, there is no problem. We will escort you.”
Today’s shift was Gamma Squad. The third unit after Alpha and Beta, its commander Prushe was a fragile-looking girl with silver hair and blue eyes. That said, her body was no exception. Her body was plump and willful. Her thighs were so thick that her skinsuit stretched tight around them, and every step made her hips sway as if they might go bnyu bnyu. Normally, I would have been enjoying myself with her and the members of Gamma Squad, but today they were accompanying me purely as personal security.
Together with the Nordic beauty, I made my way through the ship to the Migdal’s bridge. The spacious bridge was the Migdal’s only protruding section, shaped like a smooth rectangular block. It featured enormous windows that allowed a full panoramic view, apparently enabling minimum navigation even if all machinery were to fail. In that wide-open space, mixed among many crew members, stood Captain Sail as well.
“Good morning, Captain.”
“Touya-dono. You could have rested in your room.”
“Well, I ended up getting nervous too.”
Scratching my head, I replied to the captain as she turned a surprised look toward me. With the rest of the crew on edge, staying alone in my private quarters would have only left me bored. When I said that, she seemed to understand.
“So Sail-san is on the bridge too.”
When I said that—half expecting the captain to be in a helm room or central command—she shook her massive breasts slightly as she crossed her arms and gave a wry smile.
“Even as captain, my job is mostly just taking responsibility. I’m in the comfortable position of simply watching from here.”
There was no way her role was really that trivial, but pointing it out would be tactless. Wearing a military uniform heavy with medals over her usual dark-navy skinsuit, she calmly watched over the ship’s course. During spatial submersion, absolute pitch-blackness spread beyond the windows. Given that we were traveling faster than light, nothing else could possibly be seen.
“It’s almost time, Touya-dono.”
“Touya-san, please brace yourself for the shock.”
I was told that the ship would shake during surfacing. Following Sail-san’s instructions, I clung to her ample body.
“Hyaa!? T-Touya-dono!?”
“W-What!?”
“Ah, sorry… I just acted on instinct.”
A rare scream from the captain. Prushe and the others also cried out in surprise, snapping me back to my senses. Lately, when someone told me to grab on, it practically meant hugging them, so I’d let my guard down. Now that I thought about it, there was a perfectly usable handrail nearby.
“B-But well, if you find that handrail unreliable, I will support you. Yes. If we’re bracing for impact, this should allow for a more flexible response!”
“Captain!?”
“Is that so? Then I’ll take you up on that.”
The captain rattled on at high speed. With permission apparently granted, I gratefully wrapped my arms around her soft, mature body. Prushe looked flustered, but the captain rounded her back protectively, shielding me.
“Oho♡ Touya-dono, you’ve gotten quite solid, haven’t you?”
“Captain!”
The arms of a mature woman toyed with my chest. Come to think of it, this was my first time touching Sail-san’s body. Even through the skinsuit, I could feel soft fat and the firm muscle beneath. It was quite comfortable to hold. When I absentmindedly stroked her stomach with my palm, she trembled.
“Nfuu♡ Hah♡ —Hngh!”
Though she had been breathing roughly, the captain quickly regained her composure. She guided me in front of her and hugged me from behind, enveloping me. Her enormous breasts mercilessly pressed down over my head, wrapping my entire body. If I fell like this, I wouldn’t be injured at all.
“It’s almost time.”
The moment drew close. As I braced myself, Sail-san gently tightened her arms. Then..
GAGAGAGAGAGAGA
“Whoa!?”
“It’s all right. This is normal vibration during surfacing, so please stay calm.”
The Migdal, which had not shaken at all until now, clearly began to vibrate. The vast universe should be almost entirely empty space save for scattered celestial bodies. Yet “space” itself existed, and the massive bulk of the Migdal responded to even minute changes within it. Even after slowing from superluminal speed over several days and becoming able to enter normal space, the shock was tremendous. Instinctively, I grabbed Sail-san’s arms and leaned back into her.
“The stars—”
Light appeared in the window that had been pitch-black. The black curtain was torn away, revealing a sea of stars beyond. Like sand scattered with light, a beautiful cosmos spread before us. Perhaps because we had been in spatial submersion for so long, the crew let out voices of joy.
“Surfacing into normal space is complete. No damage to the hull. Beginning surrounding-area reconnaissance.”
“Understood. Increase alertness.”
Reports came to Sail-san, and she immediately issued the next order while still holding me, which was a bit undignified. Bulkheads embedded in the Migdal’s hull opened as it emerged into the great void, and from them, one after another, small spacecraft and drones launched. With practiced movements, they formed formations around the ship, establishing a security perimeter.
“Sail-san, those ships—”
“Yes. They’re carrying the Alpha Squad.”
Sharp, highly maneuverable-looking craft lined up like geese in front of the window. In each single-seat cockpit sat a pilot wearing a black full-face helmet and a thick jacket. Beneath the jacket, I could see the dark-navy skinsuit. Like Sail-san, perhaps wearing only the outer jacket was considered proper uniform. Having entered normal space, Alisa and the others had taken up escort duty for the Migdal. From here to the frontier city planet Tiria, they would rotate the watch duty.
“Can’t you just leave it to the drones?”
Mixed among the Alpha Squad’s ships—or rather, in even greater numbers—drones deployed one after another. To an amateur eye, it seemed better to leave mere surveillance to tireless machines. Still hugging me tightly, Sail-san nodded.
“For most surveillance, drones are sufficient. However, some pirates are highly skilled. That’s why we also need human observation and a rapid-response posture.”
“I see… Alisa and the others have it rough too.”
“That is their job.”
Alisa waved toward us, then revved her engines and flew off. The spacecraft, gliding lightly like swallows, looked extremely reliable.
“…Even though I strictly ordered them not to break formation.”
…So I decided to pretend I hadn’t heard the captain’s muttered words from above.
“But it’s peaceful, isn’t it? I was a bit worried after hearing the advance warnings…”
Looking out from the bridge, I marveled at the vast universe. I’d been warned repeatedly that an attack could occur during surfacing, but for now there were no signs of it.
“We’ve mixed in several dummy surfacing points. Each has a spread of about thirty light-years, so unless something truly unlikely happens, an attack—”
Just as Sail-san was about to say that calmly…
“Captain, unidentified ship detected on radar!”
“It’s approaching at ultra-high speed!”
“What!?”
Alarms and urgent reports cut her off. Sail-san cried out, her face going pale.
“Protect Touya-dono! I’m returning to the command center! All hands, battle stations Type Two!”
The silence was shattered as Gamma Squad’s combatants, who had been on standby, surrounded me. As non-combatants evacuated the bridge, Sail-san disappeared downward, floor and all.
“Touya-san, this way!”
“Y-Yes…”
Pulled by Prushe’s hand, I ran toward my quarters. Just before leaving the bridge, I glanced back and saw the black swallows outside the window fluttering lightly.
