- I Was Stranded on a Deserted Island with a Beautiful Classmate
- Chapter 87 - Escape From the Cave! Chainsaw Man DIY
I headed towards Akira.
But he was nowhere to be seen behind the rocks.
Damn, did he escape…!?
“Akira’s nowhere to be found!?”
Amane joined me in searching. Where could he have gone!? With those injuries, he shouldn’t have been able to get far…
Kaede was also looking around, scanning the surroundings—but it was no good.
“We lost him. Well, with those wounds, he won’t make it.”
“You’re sure we don’t need to keep looking?”
“He was bleeding pretty badly; he’ll probably just take himself out.”
“Yeah, those wounds were pretty severe.”
Keeping an eye on the surroundings, Kaede seemed convinced.
“Are you good with that too, Amane?”
“We’ll deal with him if he shows up.”
“For now, let’s do that. But first, the rope.”
The rope was hanging down from the forest above. Climbing it would get us out. After checking that it was securely fastened, I confirmed it was safe enough. I could climb it.
Alright, let’s try getting to the surface.
“Are…are you really going up?”
“Just to check things. You two stay here.”
“Got it.”
I grabbed the rope and started to climb. It was about five meters from the cave to the surface. A fall from here would break some bones, so I had to be careful.
But since I’d climbed it once before, as long as I used the same technique—alright.
In less than ten minutes, I reached the surface.
It felt good to see green again.
It was quiet around me, with only the sounds of nature…no sign of any people. It seemed like no one had found us here yet.
Tanaka and Akira were here, but they were probably the only ones.
Still, going up and down on this rope would be exhausting.
I’d have to make a ladder myself. So, it looks like I’ll have to do it.
Amane and Kaede were watching from the cave.
I told them, “I’m going to make a ladder, so hang tight.”
“Huh? But…”
“Don’t worry, Amane. Kaede will protect you. Isn’t that right?”
When I looked to Kaede, she puffed out her chest and answered confidently.
“Of course! Leave Amane’s protection to me! If Akira shows up, I’ll take him out in an instant.”
How reassuring.
…Alright, time to build a ladder.
First, I gathered logs.
If possible, I wanted logs over five meters long, but that might be too convenient to find.
Guess I’ll have to cut down a tree.
The trees in this forest are easily over five meters tall.
If I can fell one of the thick ones, it could make a bridge.
Since the cave is on a slight incline, if I drive a thick tree in diagonally, we could go up and down. Let’s go with that plan!
Now, how to cut down the tree…
An axe would be ideal, but unfortunately, all I have are guns and explosives…explosives, huh? That could work, but it might alert the soldiers. Better not use explosives…
But if I wanted to get it done quickly, using C4 or a grenade to blow it down would be ideal.
Is there any way to make it work…?
After a bit of thought—I gave up on using explosives. The risk was too high. I wanted to bring down the tree quietly if possible.
In that case, I’d need an axe or a machete.
Guess I’ll check out the airplane.
I pushed through the forest and headed for the crash site. I had a vague memory of the path, about a ten-minute walk from here.
Moving through the bushes, I eventually spotted the wreckage of the private jet.
This is it.
I searched the ground to see if any gear had been left behind.
Hmm…just trash.
After five minutes of searching, I found what seemed to be the luggage compartment, with some gear that hadn’t been taken.
Oh, there’s stuff left after all.
There was even an axe. A log-splitting one. But, even better, I found something even more useful.
“No way. A chainsaw? I didn’t notice that before.”
It was probably Marcus’s.
I grabbed the chainsaw and headed back to the cave.
Time to get chopping.
I selected a good-looking tree and started up the chainsaw. It roared to life, the chain spinning furiously.
I recalled a technique I knew called a “back cut.” First, I’d cut a triangle in the face of the tree, then make a cut on the back, so the tree would fall towards the front.
I started by making a triangle on the face.
Carefully, I made the cut with the chainsaw…Alright, that’s looking good. Now, if I make a back cut, the tree should fall.
Sliding the chainsaw along—
Crack, crack…THUD.
The giant tree fell perfectly.
Wow, that was a bit moving.
Maybe I could get into forestry.
Now, all that’s left is to set the tree against the cave. It’s heavy work, but I’ll just have to push it. To make it easier, I laid down logs beneath it, setting them up like a conveyor belt.
With that, I could move the big tree relatively easily.
After about thirty minutes of work, it was ready. Time to push it into place!
With all my strength, I slid the tree forward. Thanks to the log conveyor, it moved smoothly. I easily transported it to the cave entrance, ready to set in place.
I dropped it down with a final shove.
Thud…!
The noise echoed a bit, and Amane and Kaede peeked out to see what was happening.
“Hey, you two. It’ll be easier to go up and down now.”
“W-wow! Hayasaka, that’s amazing!”
“I can’t believe you chopped down such a huge tree…and managed to carry it here.”
The two of them stared at me, wide-eyed with surprise.
Heh.
Praise me some more!
“Yeah, I kind of turned into Chainsaw Man there.”
“N-no way!”
