- I Was Stranded on a Deserted Island with a Beautiful Classmate
- Chapter 83 - On Our Way to Help! (Riko’s Perspective)
It had been about fifteen minutes since Tetsu-kun and the others had set off.
Suddenly, things took a turn. Communication with them was lost, and their location signal vanished—they were missing.
—
“…This is bad.”
“What’s wrong, Riko-chan?”
Sitting at her laptop, Chitose glanced at me, looking worried. I had asked her to gather information from the internet.
“Tetsu-kun’s vitals dropped off.”
“What?! No way!”
Chitose gasped in surprise, and Momose, who’d been sleeping, quickly stood up.
—
“What? What happened?!”
I explained to the two of them that Tetsu-kun’s signal had disappeared. Both of them turned pale and lost their composure.
“What-what should we do…?”
“Why does this keep happening?! Did their ship sink again?!”
“Calm down, you two. At the very least, it doesn’t seem to be the ship this time.”
“Eh?!”
Yes, I knew. Tetsu-kun and the others weren’t on a ship—they were about to board a plane. I had planted a bug on Tetsu-kun. He was always so unlucky that I felt I had to protect him.
Even if it meant looking like a stalker, I didn’t care as long as I could save him.
I couldn’t let Tetsu-kun die.
—
“A plane, huh?”
“A-a plane? Why?! Weren’t they on a ship?”
“Calm down, Chitose. I don’t know the details myself, but I have a bad feeling about this.”
Somehow, I had a vague premonition that something would happen on another deserted island. It had become a big news story before, and many people were interested in it, especially with some ominous activity coming from the U.S.
We needed to gather more information.
As I was thinking this, Momose asked a question.
—
“Can we reach them by phone?”
“I tried, but it seemed they were in airplane mode, so I couldn’t get through.”
“That’s…not good.”
“But they don’t seem to have boarded the plane yet.”
When I said that, Chitose stood up.
“Then, I’ll go after them right away.”
“Chitose-chan, that’s reckless.”
“We have a rough idea of their location, right?”
“Probably the airport. But even if you go now, there’s no telling if you’ll make it in time.”
“It’s fine. I can ride a motorcycle. If I push it, I should get there.”
Come to think of it, Chitose was a bike enthusiast. She had gotten her motorcycle license in high school and rode a sleek Honda “Hornet.”
—
“Do you think you’ll make it?”
“I know a shortcut to the airport. I often drive around that area.”
It might have been reckless, but there was no choice but to leave this to Chitose.
Over the past month, Chitose had undergone military training and grown tremendously. She had become more reliable, almost a different person from before.
If it was her…I could trust her.
—
“All right. Chitose, can I count on you?”
“I’ll do everything I can. If I don’t make it in time, I’ll find a way to the island by boat if I have to.”
“Understood. Just don’t do anything too crazy.”
“Got it. Riko-chan, Momose-chan, I’m counting on you two.”
With her pre-packed bag in hand, Chitose hurried outside.
I saw her off, praying for everyone’s safe return.
—
“So, it’s just the two of us now.”
“Yeah, Momose.”
“By the way, Riko-chan, while searching for foreign information like you asked, I found a post on an American forum. Apparently, Whitewater is becoming more active.”
“Whitewater? What’s that?”
“I wasn’t sure either, so I looked it up. It’s some kind of private military company. There are rumors that they might be heading to the deserted island.”
“…”
Curious, I searched for “Whitewater.” It was indeed a military company. Could it be that soldiers were already on the island…? This was serious. I needed to alert Tetsu-kun and Chitose quickly.
But I couldn’t reach Tetsu-kun.
At least I should inform Chitose.
I took out my phone and, hoping for the best, dialed her number. She might have been riding her bike by now, so I wasn’t sure if she’d answer, but still—
After a while, the call connected.
—
“What’s up, Riko-chan?”
“Thank goodness, Chitose! I didn’t expect it to go through.”
“My helmet has a built-in intercom. My phone is linked, so I can take calls.”
“As expected of you, Chitose.”
“So, did something happen?”
“Yeah. This might sound crazy, but there’s a good chance that an American military company is involved in this. Tetsu-kun and the others could be in danger.”
“I see…that could explain why they switched from a boat to a plane.”
“…! So, they’re already caught up in this?”
“Maybe. But don’t worry—I’ll handle things on my end.”
“I’m counting on you, Chitose.”
“Roger. I’ll end the call here, just in case it’s being monitored.”
The call cut off.
I hoped Chitose could handle it, but I was still worried.
—
“Momose, keep gathering information.”
“Now that America’s involved, I’m wide awake! I can’t afford to lose here.”
“It’s likely an information war too. Momose, can you hack?”
“Oh, you’re bad, Riko-chan~! Sure, I can give it a try!”
“If you do, it’ll throw their reinforcement plans into chaos.”
Momose was a genius hacker. She had done some quiet hacking here and there and sometimes took on dangerous jobs.
She started typing away swiftly.
—
“I was just thinking about how to attack Whitewater.”
“What’s up?”
“This is worse than I thought.”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s not just Whitewater. Apparently, a shadow CIA group, Stratfor, might be involved too.”
“Str-Stratfor?! Wh-what…what is this…”
Maybe we were way deeper than we ever imagined.
