- Chapter 8 - Tsundere Amane
Chapter 8: Tsundere Amane
“Did…did you do it, Kitakami?”
“I’ve stopped its breathing. Now we can enjoy some delicious meat.”
Kitakami smiled as if nothing had happened.
How can she stay so calm?
Those movements, like a battle-hardened warrior, were beyond human. How strong is she? Or is it some kind of magic weapon?
But, this means we’ve secured some wild boar meat.
It’s a massive body, like a motorcycle. We’ll have plenty of meat, and if we make jerky, we won’t have to worry about food for a while.
“A-Ahh…”
Chitose was sitting near the cave entrance; she was trembling. Her legs were too weak to stand.
“Chitose, are you okay?”
“Th-thank you, Hayasaka-kun. I-I’m fine, I think…”
Even though she tried to stand, her legs wobbled. Chitose wouldn’t be able to move for a while.
Still, I feel like I’m forgetting something…
What is this strange feeling…?
Oh, wait…!
I forgot about Amane!!
“I’m sorry, Kitakami, Chitose! I was accompanying Amane to the restroom! I’ll be right back.”
Both of them looked puzzled as I hurried toward the bushes.
She was around here earlier, but…she’s not here.
D-don’t tell me…another boar or animal appeared?
Was Amane attacked!?
Panicked, I ventured further into the bushes.
And then…
I found Amane in the middle of lifting her skirt.
“…”
Both of us froze.
What should I do…?
This timing is terrible. Judging by the ground, it seems she’s already finished, but…
I have no idea how to respond!
Should I try to laugh it off with a joke? Or maybe make a dramatic apology?
But before I could decide, Amane’s face turned bright red, and she screamed.
“Kyahh! H-Hayasaka-kun!! W-Why are you here!?”
“S-sorry. There was a boar near the cave…I was worried about you. But what are you doing so deep in the bushes? It’s dangerous.”
“B-because…it’s embarrassing! Ugh, it’s so embarrassing!! Hayasaka-kun, you idiot! Now I can’t get married!!”
“If you don’t mind, I’ll marry you.”
“Wh-That’s…embarrassing too!”
Amane’s face was practically steaming.
I only meant it as a joke, but she’s just too cute.
“Anyway, let’s go back.”
“Wait. I need to wash my hands.”
“There’s no faucet around here, so you’ll have to go down to the beach.”
“Please, take me there. I can’t stand leaving them like this…”
“Alright. But in return, let’s call it even for what just happened.”
“What do you mean by that? …Oh, that. I guess that’s fine…But you’ll marry me, right?”
Her voice got so quiet at the end that I couldn’t catch what she said.
“Hm? What was that?”
“N-Nothing!”
Why is she acting so standoffish?
Still, Amane seemed to be in a good mood as she walked ahead.
* * *
When we arrived at the beach, the sky stretched out endlessly over the horizon. The glaring sun and the warm breeze brushed against my cheeks. It’s hot.
As the sun climbed higher, the temperature rose as well.
With this heat, it makes you want to dive into the sea.
Amane, crouching to wash her hands, seemed to be feeling the same way as she slowly moved closer to the water.
“…Hayasaka-kun, do you want to swim for a bit?”
“But Kitakami and Chitose will worry about us.”
“Listen, I want to be alone with you!”
“Huh, does that mean…?”
“Th-That’s not what I meant! D-Don’t get the wrong idea! I-I just…ugh…”
Her ears turned bright red this time.
Is Amane…a tsundere? She’s not fully committed to it, but it’s kind of cute.
As I thought that, her eyes suddenly became misty. At that moment, I was paralyzed.
I’d never had a girl look at me like that before. I lived a life far removed from anything like romance.
But now…
I was alone with a beautiful girl on the beach.
…Is this what they call youth?
I’m not sure, but I felt a strange wave of nostalgia and excitement.
“Amane…”
“I…I…”
If Amane and I were a couple, and she wore a sundress, every day would be fun.
The waves gently lapped at my ankles.
The cool sensation felt nice.
Letting myself sink into the moment, all my worries and struggles seemed to fade away. It reminded me of how small we humans really are.
But while I was getting sentimental, in truth, I was admiring Amane.
Not only was her face lovely, but her figure, especially her hips, was perfect for childbirth—she was like a national treasure.
While storing Amane’s image in my memory, a large wave suddenly hit us.
Amane was pushed by the wave and fell into me.
“Wah!?”
Ow.
I fell flat on my rear. My butt hurts like crazy.
But what is this soft thing?
When I squeezed and released it, its shape changed—
“H-Hayasaka-kun, not there…”
“Huh? Wait…this incredibly soft thing…Oh no! Sorry!”
I can’t believe I touched…that.
It’s so soft…I can still feel it in my hand.
“Thanks for helping me. You always save me, don’t you?”
“We help each other. You’ve saved me plenty of times too, Amane.”
“That’s not true. I don’t have any survival skills, and I haven’t been much help…Hayasaka-kun, you’re better off with Kitakami.”
Kitakami might be like a superhuman, but she’s not an entirely new species yet.
If she was, I might’ve fallen for her in one blow.
But that extraordinary speed? That’s mostly just my imagination going wild.
“I prefer the old-fashioned type.”
“W-What does that mean?”
I can’t believe I let that slip.
It’s embarrassing, but right now, being close to Amane, even accidentally hugging her, makes me so happy.
Even though I was overwhelmed by panic and fear, as long as Amane is by my side…
I decided to pat her head, but just at that moment—
Whoosh!
I heard a slicing sound right near my cheek.
A sharp object grazed my skin, and blood began to trickle out.
W-What was that?
Did someone attack us!?
Looking at the ground, I saw an arrow embedded in it.
I turned around and saw three girls in school uniforms.
With fierce expressions, they stood behind us, bows drawn.
More girls?!
