- I Was Stranded on a Deserted Island with a Beautiful Classmate
- Chapter 12 - A Soft Murmur from Amane
I felt refreshed after playing in the rain like a fool.
It felt like I had returned to my childhood.
“Hachoo!”
But I had gotten too carried away and spent too much time in the rain. Both Amane and Chitose let out cute sneezes.
I also started to feel a little cold, even though it was summer, and I shivered.
“Ugh, it’s cold. Amane, Chitose, if you stay in your underwear, you’ll catch a cold.”
When I warned them, they froze like they had been hit by Medusa’s petrifying gaze.
…Wait, did they just now realize it!?
“Kyaaaa!”
“H-Hayasaka-kun…don’t look this way!”
Amane and Chitose turned their backs to me, their eyes filling with tears.
Unfortunately, it was already too late.
I had already burned the sight of them into my memory for the next ten years.
I wouldn’t forget what I saw for a long time.
“I-I got it. I’ll look the other way, so please change.”
――A few minutes later.
Amane came over to me after changing into her uniform. She gave me a sharp look.
“Pervert…”
“Innocent! You were the one who undressed, but now you’re treating me like some creep?”
“That’s not it, but you were staring at my chest, weren’t you?”
Of course, I looked.
How could I not? They were huge!
Not looking—or rather, not admiring them—would be rude. Still, I am the type of gentleman known as a “perverted gentleman.”
I should act like a gentleman here.
“I like your face more than your chest…”
“…Huh? That was unexpected!”
“Don’t be so surprised. Isn’t that a normal thing to say?”
“I guess so, yeah. It’s a little reassuring.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, you never try to assault anyone. I mean, we’re on a deserted island, and there are a lot of girls here.”
“I’m not going to assault anyone! But yeah, the gender ratio is messed up. I wonder how the other guys are doing.”
They could be at the bottom of the ocean…drifting away, or maybe they’ve been rescued.
It’d be nice if we had some way of communicating.
“I trust you, though.”
I thought I heard Amane whisper something.
“Huh? Did you say something?”
“No, nothing.”
I was staring at Amane’s rain-soaked, see-through uniform, so I missed it. Plus, her voice was quiet.
“Hayasaka-kun! Amane-san! There’s a cave over here!”
I was startled by Chitose’s voice.
When did she get all the way over there?
It was a pathless area where the plants were thick and overgrown.
Is there really an exit over there?
When we headed toward her, it turned out she was indeed near the base.
“W-We were this close all along?”
“No way! We got lost for that long, though!”
What’s going on? Weren’t we lost?
As I tilted my head in confusion, I noticed Chitose holding something.
“Ah, I found this on the ground.”
It was a triangular-shaped stone I had left as a marker.
That’s strange. It wasn’t here earlier.
…Something feels off.
“Why the serious face, Hayasaka-kun? Let’s get back to the cave already.”
“Y-Yeah, Amane.”
Amane took my hand and pulled me along.
It made me so happy I thought I might fall in love with her.
Just from holding hands!
Am I too easy!?
—No, wait, something’s strange.
Are we being manipulated somehow…?
No, that can’t be.
This is just a deserted island.
* * *
When we finally returned to the base, we found a nice sleeping area inside the cave.
What is this…a tent?
“This is amazing, Kitakami-san.”
“Welcome back, Hayasaka-kun. Amane-san, Chitose-san too.”
Kitakami wiped the sweat from her brow as she greeted us. Maybe it was just because of how close Amane and I were standing, but she gave me a smile that seemed to have a knife’s edge. Terrifying…
But seriously, the quality of this setup is incredible.
There were ‘camp beds’ made from sturdy tree branches and netting, enough for everyone.
The beds were elevated to keep bugs away, and even if the ground got wet, they’d still be dry—a perfect setup.
“There are beds…? Kitakami-san, who are you?”
Even Amane was stunned.
I totally understood how she felt.
I knew Kitakami was into survival games, but I didn’t realize she was this high-spec. Her skillset is on another level.
“I’m just an ordinary girl. Also, if we cover the bed with this tarp I found washed up on the shore, it’ll be a simple tent.”
“When did you find something like that!?”
Now it was Chitose’s turn to be wide-eyed.
So even a tarp had washed up. There’s a lot of trash in the sea, but…is this really possible?
I mean, trash washes ashore from all over the world.
Anyway, with that, our sleeping area—or rather, our “living space”—was complete.
“By the way, did you guys manage to collect anything? Also, Hayasaka-kun, could you please step away from Amane-san?”
“A-Alright…don’t point that knife at me. Anyway, we collected a bunch of yamamomo fruits and some large shells. I think they’re giant clams.”
“Oh, these red fruits are definitely yamamomo. I didn’t think they’d be on an island like this.”
“Go ahead and try some. Here.”
“Thank you. …Mmm. It’s sweet and sour. I haven’t had this in a while—glucose, citric acid, vitamins, sodium, potassium, calcium, and other minerals.”
“Why do you know so much!?”
“The pigments are apparently polyphenols.”
“Okay, enough!”
Kitakami seems to be the type who’s really into food ingredients. Sometimes it’s weird, and some of the stuff sounds like poison—like potassium sorbate.
“Well, now that the beds are ready, try them out.”
“Oh, really? Then I’ll give it a shot.”
Amane, Chitose, and I each picked a spot and lay down on the beds.
“Oh wow, it’s so soft! Is this straw? This is great!”
Amane stretched out comfortably.
The beds were definitely cozy. A million times better than the hard ground.
I could sleep soundly here, and I was grateful to Kitakami.
“Kitakami-san, this is amazing! How did you get so skilled?”
“I’m just a survival game geek.”
“A s-survival game?”
Chitose looked confused, but I guess she wouldn’t know much about survival games. Actually, Kitakami’s skills seem way beyond just being a survival game enthusiast.
This is practically military-level expertise.
“By the way, where are Yaegashi and the others? I don’t see them.”
“They haven’t returned yet. I’m a little worried, but…oh, looks like they’re back.”
Looking outside, I saw a group of three approaching.
It was Yaegashi, Hoshubana, and Higanbana.
I’m glad they’re safe.
“…Wait, something’s wrong.”
The three of them were running toward us in a panic.
…Huh?
Are they being chased by something?
“Help…!”
“There’s something slithering…!”
“Aaaah!!”
What’s going on? Slithering…? Wait, is that the giant snake from before!?
It was chasing Yaegashi and the others, moving swiftly.
“I’ll take care of this.”
“No, Kitakami! Wild boars were dangerous, but snakes are even worse. Once they coil around you, it’s not easy to get free. Overseas, there are often reports of anacondas and pythons attacking people.”
Come to think of it, didn’t Yaegashi have a bow and arrows? …Oh, they must’ve run out of arrows.
So we don’t have any weapons.
“What are we going to do, Hayasaka-kun?”
Amane tapped my shoulder.
“I’ll take down the snake. I meant to deal with it on the first day anyway.”
“I ran away that time…I’m sorry.”
“It wasn’t your fault, Amane.”
I glanced at the ground and saw the remains of the Swedish torch from last night. It was mostly charred, but I could use it.
I grabbed the charred log and ran toward the snake.
Honestly, I was terrified, and my hands were sweating like crazy. But as the only guy here, I had to do something!
There’s no time to be scared. I just have to go for it!
‘—Shssss!’
The snake noticed me and slithered in my direction. Good, it’s focused on me.
Now, time to strike with this log!
“Take this!!”
I swung the log and struck the snake’s body.
‘—!!’
But the charred log was too fragile—it crumbled in an instant.
“Ahhhhh…! My log!”
The Swedish torch broke apart uselessly. As I panicked, the snake bared its fangs and lunged at me.
…Am I going to die here…?
“Don’t give up, Hayasaka-kun!! Look up!”
“That voice…Amane?”
Something fell from the sky.
…A fresh log!?
Ah, I see, there was a spare.
With this log…I can beat the snake!
“Thanks, Amane!”
“Don’t worry about it! You’d better live through this!”
I’ll definitely survive, I promise.
