I Was Sent to an All-Female Frontline Unit to Get Rid of Some of the Trouble, but the Most Beautiful Girls Who Are Rumored to Hate Men Love Me So Much That I Have a Hard Time at Night - Chapter 74: Assassination Plan Failure (1)
Chapter 74: Assassination Plan Failure (1)
◆◇◆
I stepped out of the arena through the participants’ entrance.
“Oh!”
“Teraward-kun!”
“Tera-kun!”
I saw the familiar faces of the frontline unit there.
“Everyone…!”
I raised my voice.
Everyone approached me simultaneously.
“Finn! Great job! That battle was amazing!!”
“! R-Really?”
“Yeah! Using so many advanced elemental magics in a row is incredible!”
“Right~ Even your big sister was mesmerized by that fight~”
“Your movements before casting magic were amazing too! Dodging attacks with minimal motion!”
“I know! And Tera dodged with his eyes closed sometimes…!”
“So cool…!”
Everyone continued giving me praise.
When it calmed down, I spoke shyly.
“Th-Thank you! Your words make me very happy…!”
“So cute when he’s shy…!”
“His shy, happy face is too much…”
“Cute…”
“Too healing…”
“The gap between fighting and now always gets me…”
“It’s unfair, but it’s so cute I can’t help but forgive it…”
I expressed my gratitude, and everyone started murmuring.
I couldn’t hear what they murmured.
As a frontline unit member, I won properly.
Everyone praised my fight, filling me with joy.
“That’s it!”
As I thought this, Elena spoke loudly.
“Since it’s a special occasion, let’s celebrate Finn’s Expert Match victory!”
“! A celebration… Is that okay?”
“Of course! Right, everyone?”
The others nodded with bright expressions.
“Yes!”
“Obviously!”
“I want to!”
“I want to feed him lots of sweets again…!”
“Too exciting…!”
“Everyone…”
Seeing them so excited about my celebration warmed my heart.
We talked about the celebration for a while.
When it calmed down, Sephia approached me.
“Finn. Again, your battle was truly impressive.”
“Thank you, Sephia!”
Being praised wasn’t guaranteed, so I expressed heartfelt gratitude.
Sephia paused briefly.
“Your movements in that battle could apply to swordsmanship, so I’d like to discuss that later, but first, I want to confirm something—”
She started to say.
“Finn Teraward.”
Someone called from the side, so I turned.
The guide who led me to the waiting area stood there.
Sephia and the others turned to him too.
I opened my mouth and asked.
“Yes, what is it?”
“I have a message from Narcissus-sama to deliver.”
A message from Narcissus…?
What could it be?
Feeling curious, the guide continued speaking.
“Regardless of the match’s outcome, he wants to discuss military matters in the arena’s basement afterward.”
Military matters Narcissus wanted to discuss with me…?
In the arena’s basement…?
I had various thoughts.
The guide seemed to know nothing more.
“I understand. Thank you.”
I asked for directions to the basement and ended the conversation.
The guide turned and left.
I faced everyone and voiced my thoughts.
“All military information is confidential, but wanting to talk in the basement suggests it’s especially sensitive.”
“Sensitive, or perhaps…”
Norn murmured softly and didn’t continue.
Instead, she glanced at Elena.
“!”
Elena, receiving the glance, made a small sound.
She opened her mouth and spoke.
“Either way, it’s odd for a trainee like Finn to discuss military matters alone, so let’s all go as his unit!”
“Yes!”
“Understood!”
So, we descended the stairs to the arena’s basement together.
We opened a door there and entered.
It was pitch dark, so I lit a light.
The space was empty, surrounded by stone walls.
“Here is…”
I murmured softly.
“Beautiful frontline unit women, and— Finn Teraward… You came.”
A voice came from behind as the door opened.
I turned and saw Narcissus with many people, likely his subordinates.
“You sent a message… You said we’d discuss military matters here, so what are they?”
“Matters…? That was just an excuse to lure you here.”
“What…?”
I felt confused by his words.
Narcissus looked around.
“More importantly, this place was once the arena’s armory… Now the armory’s elsewhere, and this is an unused space.”
I didn’t understand the purpose of his sudden explanation.
I listened silently, and Narcissus continued.
“That means no one will come to help if something happens here… Isn’t that perfect?”
“Perfect… for what?”
“Heh, isn’t it obvious?”
The next moment, Narcissus distorted his expression greatly.
“For executing you, a mere commoner trainee who humiliated me before tens of thousands!!”
As he finished, Narcissus raised his hand to signal.
His subordinates rushed toward me.
“Heh, hahaha…! With this many rushing you, you’re helpless! Even if you escape the vanguard with magic, more soldiers wait behind, and more beyond the door! This room has only one exit behind me! You’re at your limit alone! Regret tarnishing me as a commoner—”
As Narcissus started to say, his subordinates shouted.
“Uwaaaaah!”
“Gwaaaaah!”
“Guoooaah!”
Suddenly, the subordinates rushing me were blown away by wind pressure.
“What…!?”
A crash echoed in the space, and Narcissus shouted in shock.
I didn’t cast that magic.
I turned to the person who did— Elena.
Elena spoke with hollow eyes and a cold voice.
“You insulted Finn and now try to take his life… I’ll never— absolutely never—forgive you.”
* * *
Just moments ago, Narcissus loudly raised a very cheerful laugh.
He quickly silenced that laugh in an instant.
He turned toward Elena with a cold expression and spoke in a flustered manner.
“E… Elena Endyheart…? W-Why did you attack us…? Do you even realize what you just did?!”
“I blew away the people who rushed to take Finn’s life. What I did is neither more nor less than that,” Elena says.
“Your action can’t possibly be justified by that! The ones you just blew away were my subordinates… soldiers of the Luvankrum Empire’s military! You, a soldier of the same Luvankrum Empire’s military, attacked your own allies… In other words, attacking friendly forces—”
“What are you talking about? You were the ones who attacked first to take Finn’s life, weren’t you? I just protected a member of my unit from being harmed… I think that counts as self-defense,” Elena says.
If it were a normal fight, the defending side would need to show some restraint.
Even if someone acted to protect themselves, going too far would make it an excessive defense.
