I Was Sent to an All-Female Frontline Unit to Get Rid of Some of the Trouble, but the Most Beautiful Girls Who Are Rumored to Hate Men Love Me So Much That I Have a Hard Time at Night - Chapter 26: The Assassin's First Time (1)
Chapter 26: The Assassin’s First Time (1)
“Huh…?”
Elena was prepared to fire back with angry words the moment Norn asked anything weird about Finn.
But what Norn actually said wasn’t anything like what Elena had imagined. It was completely unexpected──but.
Elena did have an idea about what Norn was asking.
“…Why are you asking something like that?”
“Because it might be a clue to something I want to confirm with Finn… Also, if I just said this out of nowhere, I figured you’d be the type to immediately deny it like, ‘No way that would happen!’ But since you didn’t, does that mean it did happen?”
“…”
Elena hesitated on how to answer.
After all, the idea that Finn said he might be better off dead was such a sensitive matter.
And saying it herself instead of letting Finn say it… was that really okay?
(But Norn asked because she’s already half convinced it’s true.)
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have asked such a direct question. If that’s the case, there’s no point in hiding the truth now.
More than anything──
Elena trusted Norn.
She might not usually act like someone trustworthy, but deep down, Elena knew Norn genuinely cared about their friends. Elena was certain that even if Norn heard it from her, she’d never do anything that would hurt Finn.
Especially when Norn had that unusually serious expression she sometimes showed. Because of that, Elena nodded and said:
“Yeah, it did happen… Just like you said, Finn said maybe it’d be better if he died.”
“…!”
“I told him not to say things like that, and he apologized, so I hope he’s gotten a little better about it now. But with everything that’s happened since, I still haven’t been able to ask him why he said that in the first place.”
“…I see. It was still more like a vague theory to me, but if that’s true, then I guess I was right.”
If that’s the case—
Norn added, then immediately—
Her eyes darkened, and she gave off a powerful bloodlust along with a surge of magic.
“Eh!? H-Hey, Norn? What’s wrong!?”
Norn usually acted weird or said odd things, but Elena had never seen her truly emotional like this.
Seeing her now, clearly overwhelmed with emotion, left Elena confused.
Eventually, Norn suppressed her magic and killing intent.
“No, it’s nothing.”
“How can you say it’s nothing after that!? That’s definitely a lie!”
When Elena said that, Norn returned to her usual self.
“Anyway, Finn’s not coming to my room tonight, right? Then I guess I’ll go to bed soon.”
“Wait—!”
Just as Elena was about to respond,
Norn unbuttoned her military uniform and took off her jacket.
Seeing that, Elena suddenly remembered something else she needed to say, and quickly switched gears.
“I’ve told you this so many times already, but this base isn’t just an all-girls space anymore—Finn’s here too! You need to stop going to bed without wearing clothes!”
“When I sleep with clothes on, I just feel all uncomfortable, you know~? And it’s not like I’d ever be okay with some random guy seeing me like that, but if it’s Finn, I don’t really care what I look like~”
“Even if you’re fine with it, Finn gets embarrassed! And it’s not just about sleeping naked—like earlier today after the battle, you got right up close to him and showed off your cleavage—”
After that, Elena completely forgot that Norn had just been emotional.
As usual, Elena kept saying everything she wanted to Norn.
But, just like always, Norn brushed it off casually, and Elena failed to change her way of thinking once again today.
“Ohh, you’re here!”
In the meeting room, one person waited alone.
Deandre, who had been waiting for the assassin to arrive, raised his voice when a silver-haired woman with a well-proportioned figure appeared, wearing a clean white buttoned outfit covered by a black jacket with many pockets and weapon holders.
He had imagined something darker when he heard “assassin,” so he was surprised by her beautiful appearance, highlighted by her fair, almost transparent skin.
“Of course I’d come. It’s a job. So, where’s the target’s file?”
Prompted by her words, he quickly handed her the document about Finn.
“Here it is.”
“…Finn Teraward, 15 years old. Graduated top of his class from the magic academy. Among the Luvankrum Empire’s military trainees, his abilities stand out… What a talent. Are you really sure you want me to assassinate someone like this?”
“Of course. That one is a commoner… If a commoner holds such power, the nobles who don’t will lose face. If that happens, the military will no longer be able to maintain its current structure, and eventually, the country will collapse… To prevent that, we must eliminate any outliers early on. Don’t you agree?”
“I’m an assassin. A commoner’s life and a noble’s life are both just lives to me. Nothing more, nothing less.”
“What…!? Are you saying a noble’s life is the same as a commoner’s!?”
Deandre held a high-ranking position in the Luvankrum Empire’s military.
He was used to people trying to please him, so it was rare for someone to openly express a different opinion.
And because the subject was so serious, he raised his voice in anger—but the woman didn’t seem fazed at all.
“Don’t get so worked up. Like I just said, to me, every life is equal. If it’s a job, I’ll see it through.”
“…”
He had plenty he wanted to say, but if she decided not to take the job because of that, Finn would survive again.
So Deandre forced himself to stay quiet.
“Still, a 15-year-old boy… Out of everyone I’ve ever assassinated, this one’s the youngest.”
“Does taking the life of someone so young weigh on your conscience?”
Deandre asked, hoping she’d show some emotion. That way, he could get back at her for her earlier comment and enjoy the moment.
But contrary to his expectations, she showed no emotion at all.
“Not at all. No matter who the target is, it’s mostly the same… They either resent me, beg for their life, or die before they can do either. So, age or personality has nothing to do with it.”
“Hmph…”
Deandre’s plan failed, and he got a bit irritated again, but he kept it hidden and spoke up.
“If the job is completed, you’ll be paid as written in the contract──but don’t let your guard down. Finn Teraward is currently in the Luvankrum Empire’s most elite front-line unit… We don’t know if it’s true yet, but if those man-hating women really have accepted him, things could get very troublesome.”
“True, they might be a bit of a problem. But assassins are different from you people. We strike when the target is defenseless, aiming for a guaranteed kill. So combat ability in a head-on fight doesn’t matter… If I were to fail, the only reason would be because of some sudden change in myself… but that won’t happen. As you probably know, I’ve completed every job I’ve ever taken.”
Even if Deandre didn’t like some things about her,
It was clear that she was sharp, unafraid of speaking her mind to clients, and emotionally unshakable.
Despite how she spoke, Deandre could feel from her presence that she was a top-class assassin.
“I see… Then I’m counting on you.”
When Deandre said that, the silver-haired woman turned her back to him and left the meeting room.
“Finally… This time, Finn Teraward will be…! Let him pay with his life for troubling us nobles so much despite being a mere commoner!!”
She had completed every job she had ever accepted. She was known as the most skilled assassin in the entire Luvankrum Empire.
Deandre, now confident in Finn’s death, let out a loud laugh alone in the meeting room.
Surely by tomorrow, that assassin would bring Finn’s corpse before him──thinking that, Deandre couldn’t help but laugh.
