Chapter 27 – The Next Play at the Culture Festival
“Well, the performance at the children’s center was a great success, so now it’s time for the drama club’s next goal.”
Rinko-senpai wrote August 26th on the board.
“On this day, we have the regional qualifying round for the drama competition.”
Eh, a drama competition?
Was there a plot like that?
Momogaku isn’t a club activity story, it’s a lovey-dovey erotic harem romantic comedy, though!?
As I was secretly fretting, Rinko-senpai continued.
“…But it seems the club can’t participate in the tournament, so our next goal is the culture festival in September.”
I breathed a sigh of relief.
That would be just like in the original Momogaku story.
If I remember correctly, in the original story, the club performed Beauty and the Beast at the culture festival.
Ahh, I’m looking forward to Beauty and the Beast.
The dance scene in the glittering dresses was so romantic, and the theme song was great too.
I imagined the scene where Takanashi and Momozono-san dance in their beautiful costumes.
Mmhmm, that’s so picturesque! Last time, Yuu-chan was the princess, but this time, Momozono-san is going to play the princess!
“…So, for the time being, we’re planning to decide on the play and cast. We’re also thinking about a training camp at a seaside villa around the 10th of August, so everyone, keep that day free.”
The members were abuzz at the mention of “training camp.”
There it is, a training camp at the beach!
Personally, I’m looking forward to that more than the culture festival. The heroines showing off their swimsuits at the beach is the best part of a romantic comedy.
Aside from swimsuits, we’ll have yukatas and fireworks.
Don’t you think summer feels so youthful?!!
“Hehe… Ehehe.”
“Senpai, Takeda’s not listening to you again.”
Mikan raised her hand, and Yamada shook his head in exasperation.
“Seriously, Takeda-san only thinks about boobs.”
How rude. I was just thinking about swimsuits!
I then cleared my throat.
“I was listening. We’re deciding on the new play, right?”
“Oh, so you were listening.”
Mikan quickly raised her hand.
“Yes, yes! I want to do ‘Baahubali’ or ‘HIGH & LOW’!”
Oi, oi, oi…
“Baahubali” is that three-hour-long Indian movie, right? That’s impossible. And “HIGH & LOW” clearly doesn’t have enough people for that! (T/N: I have no idea what these 2 are…)
“Mikan, isn’t ‘Baahubali’ a bit too long? And the fight scenes seem like they’d be hard to do.”
Takanashi laughed wryly.
“Really? But figuring that out is where the screenwriter’s skills come into play!”
No, no, if Takanashi, the screenwriter, says it’s impossible, then it’s impossible.
“But an Indian movie might be interesting, too.”
Rinko-senpai chimed in.
“If ‘Baahubali’ doesn’t work, how about ‘Muthu: The Dancing Maharaja’? Wouldn’t that be interesting?”
Voices of approval were raised at Rinko-senpai’s suggestion.
“I agree!”
“Singing and dancing sounds fun.”
“India… How innovative.”
This is bad. Everyone’s minds are already set in India-themed plays.
It’s because Yamada was dancing and singing some mysterious Bollywood-style Indian song.
Damnit this guy, He’s doing something unnecessary again.
What’s even more annoying is that he’s surprisingly good at singing and dancing.
Oh, this is bad. For some reason, the club room is starting to smell like curry, and I’m even hallucinating about an elephant.
I just want to see a romantic “Beauty and the Beast”!
To change the flow, I put out a suggestion.
“If singing and dancing are okay, how about ‘Beauty and the Beast’? If not, maybe ‘Aladdin'”
“Hmm.”
Rinko-senpai made a hesitant face.
W-what’s the matter? What’s wrong with that!?
Mikan laughed mockingly.
“What can I say… Takeda’s just so ordinary.”
“Well, sorry for being ordinary!!”
W-what’s wrong with that? What’s wrong with being so normal? It’s for the culture festival, so let’s do a romantic play!
“Umm…”
Takanashi timidly raised her hand.
“I agree that Indian movies are long, and I think it would be difficult to make them into a play of the same length for the culture festival.”
Nice, tell them, Takanashi.
Rather than something Indian, wouldn’t you rather do “Beauty and the Beast” with Momozono-san?!
“Erm, but…”
“That’s why I think we should use the story of “Beauty and the Beast” as the base and give it an Indian twist!”
Takanashi clenched his fist and spoke passionately.
Huh… Huh???
Oi, wait a minute. Takanashi, what are you talking about…?
“I see, that sounds interesting.”
Even Momozono-san nodded in agreement with Takanashi’s idea.
Seriously? Is that okay with you, Momozono-san?!
“That sounds good too.”
“I think it’s good.”
“Then it’s settled!”
When Rinko-senpai declared, the club room was filled with warm applause.
“The performance for the culture festival has been decided to be ‘Indian Beauty and the Beast’!!”
How on earth did this happen!?

T/N: That’s…definitely a weird twist. Never in a million years I’d see it coming.
