ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
One morning.
“Fuaa… So sleepy…”
I yawned widely as I headed toward school. I was running on little sleep since I stayed up late playing games yesterday.
“Well, the midterms are next month, so I can’t slack off in class…”
“Ah, good morning, Kakeru.”
“Fuaa… Huh? Oh, good morning, Kasumi.”
As I mumbled to myself while walking to school, I ran into Kasumi on the way.
“That’s quite a big yawn. Did you stay up late last night?”
“Ah, yeah… Actually, I was playing games all day yesterday—ah! S-sorry, Kasumi! I bailed on our plan yesterday! I’ll make sure that never happens again, please forgive me!”
“You don’t need to worry about it. You’re giving me super fancy chocolates to apologize, right?”
“Eh… Huh!? N-no, fancy chocolates… I can’t… That’s too much.”
“Haha, just kidding. Even if you just get me chocolate from the convenience store, that’ll make us even. But from now on, don’t cancel plans on me, okay? If you do it again, I’ll lecture you.”
“Ah, yeah, of course. I’ll never do it again, I promise! And I’ll bring lots of delicious chocolate, so look forward to it!”
“Okay, then I’ll look forward to it.”
“Alright!”
I was really glad I got Kasumi to forgive me. Now I just had to make sure I found some really tasty chocolate.
“Oh, right. Since I ran into you this morning, I actually have something I want to ask you. Is that okay?”
“Something you want to ask me? Yeah, sure. What is it?”
Kasumi immediately asked me this with a slightly nervous expression. What’s going on?
“Thanks. Um… It might be a bit of a weird question, but… From your perspective, what kind of girl do I look like?”
“Huh? What do you mean, what kind of girl?”
“Well, um… I mean, my appearance, personality, overall impression… You know, stuff like that. Could you tell me how I seem to you?”
“Uh…Your appearance, impression…?”
“Y-yeah… Just a rough impression, don’t think too hard. I just want to know how I seem to you, Kakeru.”
“…Huh?”
Kasumi’s question was asking how I perceived her. I hadn’t expected a question like that, and I was honestly surprised. More than that…
W-what is this… Could this be one of those confession moments…!?
I thought nervously to myself. After all, Kasumi’s face was slightly red. So…
Does this mean it’s actually a confession moment!? …No, if I think about it normally, there’s no way that’s it. A confession moment just happening out of nowhere? That’s impossible. This isn’t a romantic comedy manga. It’s probably something else. Maybe she just changed her hairstyle or outfit with the season and wants to know how she looks objectively.
Yeah, that sounds more reasonable. I’ll stop thinking that it’s a dumb “confession” scenario. But then… What should I say to Kasumi? Hmm… Well, she’s obviously super beautiful…
I took a good look at her. Kasumi now looked like a traditional Japanese beauty with long black hair. Even with her long hair, she’d probably look good with short hair too. Her slender model-like figure meant she could pull off sophisticated adult clothing, or even more revealing, trendy outfits.
No, seriously… Kasumi was beautiful enough that any hairstyle or outfit would suit her. She had that kind of natural talent. Whatever look she tried, it would work. Being able to date a girl this beautiful… Any guy would feel lucky. Man, I really wished I could date someone like her.
“…? W-what’s wrong, Kakeru?”
“Eh…? N-no, it’s nothing!”
Kasumi noticed I was staring at her and asked. I quickly lied to cover it up.
Hmm… What should I do… I was thinking exactly what I really thought about her appearance and impression. But telling her that would feel weird, like admitting defeat. And saying something like that directly to a girl was just embarrassing…
…Yeah. I know. I’ll just respond with my usual playful teasing like always.
“Uh…Well… I guess…U uh… Kasumi… You feel like a tall, big mom!”
“…Excuse me?”
I responded with my usual joking tone. Kasumi frowned and said:
“Uh… Isn’t there a better answer than that?”
“Huh? But… Kasumi, you’re almost 170 cm tall, and your personality is super serious. You’re like a mom. Haha, that’s why my impression is that you’re a tall mom… Wait, why does your face look stiff?”
“Eh… It’s nothing. And… Who’s a mom anyway?”
“Haha, come on, everyone would see you as a mom!”
With that, I teased her in my usual style, and she responded in her usual sharp, playful way.
Haha, this kind of snappy comeback is so Kasumi.
“Ahaha… So, that’s it? Was that all you wanted to ask me?”
“Eh? Ah, yes, that’s right. Thanks for answering my question.”
“Ah, of course. If you ever want to ask me something, feel free anytime.”
“Yeah, thanks. I’m glad you said that. Oh, by the way, it seems you were gaming all day yesterday… Did you at least do today’s homework?”
“Eh… H-homework!? W-wait, what!? Was there homework today…?”
“Huh? What are you saying? Didn’t we get the assignment sheet in math class? You…You didn’t do it?”
“Eh!? R-really!? Oh no… Uum… K-Kasumi-sama!! P-please! Can you let me copy today’s homework!? I’ll repay you properly, I swear!!”
I hadn’t known about the homework, so I bowed and begged Kasumi to let me copy it, giving it my all.
“Fufu, you’re desperate. Fine, I’ll let you… As long as it adds one more favor owed to me. But this favor is very heavy, okay? Next time, you’ll owe me some delicious cake too.”
“Ah, okay! I’ll buy anything you want! Please, I beg you!”
“Fufu, alright. Since you insisted, I’ll let you see it. Let’s get to school quickly. Once we’re in the classroom, I’ll show you the sheet.”
“Thank you, Kasumi! I owe you one! Alright, let’s head to school!”
“Yeah. Got it.”
And so, we headed to school right away.
Yeah, having a trustworthy, amazing best friend is really something you need in life!
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

There’s practically no point to Kakeru’s POV. You practically already know what he’s thinking.
“Admitting defeat”… Jeez, this guy…
Like I get hes a teen but even a teen knows to tell a female they remind them of older generations is a no go. Also you know he thought about it being a confession and still chose to say what he said…
If he gets mad later when she dates another guy I hope they have a moment where she pulls up all his issues like what he said and how he CLEARLY doesnt think much of her except a beautiful sponge for him to mooch off.
Also with someone that selfish how does he even have friends?
