Chapter 14 – The Heroines’ Are Fighting Over Me
The schedule at Royal Academy isn’t all that different from that of a normal school in modern Japan.
Firstly, homeroom is held in the morning, where they discuss the day’s schedule and summarize the previous day.
As for me, there weren’t any particular students that caught my attention. If I had to mention someone, it would be Lumiere and Elise, those two, perhaps.
And after all the students had introduced themselves,
“Well, I don’t think there’s anyone who doesn’t know me, but I’ll introduce myself anyway. I’m Rinslet Freanain. The strongest magician in the kingdom. I’ll be your homeroom teacher for at least a year. Nice to meet everyone.”
…There were no students that caught my attention.
However, there was definitely a teacher that caught my attention.
And that was Rinslet.
Today, she was wearing revealing, provocative clothing, and continued to attract attention from those around her.
The boys were bewildered by her charms, and the girls were envious and fascinated.
Amidst all of this, Rinslet declared,
“By the way, I’m only interested in Alvart, so any love confessions would be pointless. Please don’t even try.”
At that moment, the boys’ gazes pierced through me.
…What has this teacher done?
As I was lamenting this,
“R-Rinslet-sensei! Alvart is my fiance, so I’d appreciate it if you didn’t try to seduce him!”
The excitement among the boys intensified even further.
“He’s engaged to Elise-sama…?!”
“T-then, last night s-she was with that person… all night long…!”
“I-I can’t forgive him…!”
I’ve had enough.
Correction power, can’t you just give me a break now?
“Heh~ So you two are in that kind of relationship?”
“Yes! We decided that yesterday!”
“Hmm… Stealing someone’s lover might be interesting. What do you think?”
Rinslet gave me a seductive look and licked her lips.
Elise is burning with a sense of rivalry towards Rinslet.
“I’m sorry, but Nii-sama and Lumi are one and the same. No matter how much anyone loves Nii-sama, the bond between Lumi and Nii-sama can’t be overcome. Too bad. Hehehe.”
With Lumiere joining the battle, things got even more complicated.
…It was a blessing in disguise that no major problems occurred after this.
However, there was still plenty of chaos awaiting today.
Lunch break.
I was called to a certain place.
Yes, to the student council room.
All the main members, including Clarice, were already seated at the round table, and were discussing several issues.
“So… Does anyone have any objections to Elise-sama and Cecil-sama becoming the vice-president’s general affairs staff?”
Everyone remained silent in response to Clarice’s decision.
In this school, general affairs staff are assigned to specific officers, and are essentially errand boys.
Elise and Cecil had a connection with the vice-president, Leona Cariol, and so they joined the student council by serving under her.
…But that’s not the issue here.
The issue here is…
“Next, I would like to welcome Alvart-sama to the student council as my general affairs staff… Does anyone object?”
That’s it.
I don’t know how it all came to this, but Clarice wants me to be her general affairs staff.
Naturally, I absolutely don’t want to.
Why on earth would I want to join the exclusive circle of student council members? My situation is already complicated, but adding any more titles would make it more unmanageable.
But even so, I can’t refuse Clarice’s request.
Her title is that of a Princess.
If I were to ignore her wishes, there would undoubtedly be an uproar within the school.
That’s why I followed her wishes, but I’m not giving up.
Though it annoys me, I’m currently like a nail that sticks out.
If that’s the case, then surely——
“I don’t agree. He shouldn’t join the student council.”
——someone will try to hammer it down.
And that someone was Theodore, the disciplinary committee chairman, if I remember correctly.
He’s a distinctive student with neatly parted black hair and a face that was the epitome of strictness.
This Theodore will be my savior.
“He’s the eldest son of a marquis. Therefore, I consider his family to be of sufficient rank… but his rank within the school is only about average.”
That’s right. Good. Keep going.
“I believe that the student council should always welcome only outstanding people. Therefore, it would be nothing but a foolish plan to accept an ordinary person like him who has no particular merits.”
I cheered in my heart at his words.
Wonderful.
You’re the best, Theodore.
Lumiere, who’s sitting next to him as his attendant, and Elise, my nominal fiancée, are visibly upset, but that doesn’t matter.
Theodore is holding the upper hand in this situation.
If there is anyone who can bend his will.
“I don’t think so, Theodore.”
Yes, there is no one other than Clarice.
But even the student council president can’t settle everything with a single word.
“With all due respect, Clarice-sama, the student council needs to have a certain level of prestige. If we were to accept Alvart-kun, that would be diminished.”
“In that case… if Alvart-sama demonstrates his own level of prestige, would you allow him to join the student council?”
In response to this question, Theodore adjusted his glasses and said,
“Yes, precisely.”
After responding immediately, he turned to me and said,
“What do you think, Alvart-kun? If you’re up for it, why not prove your worth to me?”
Oh, I love you, Theodore.
He spoke exactly how I wanted, word for word.
Yes, I’d been waiting for this to happen.
I couldn’t just turn down Her Highness’ request.
If that’s the case, I’d just have to create a situation where the request wouldn’t be granted.
In response to Theodore’s offer, I said,
“Since I lack confidence, I must respectfully de——”
“That’s an inappropriate thing to say as a senior!”
Huh?
“Do not belittle my husband! He is not a man so cheap as to be judged by someone like you!”
Wait.
“I agree! Nii-sama is the strongest! He can’t be compared to the likes of you!”
Hey…
“Ho ho ho, so you look down on this Theodore to that extent, Alvart-kun?”
How can that be!?
“N-no, I would never——”
“Don’t mess with me, you useless heir! A few hundred years ago, Zesphilia holds power, but the Zesphilia now is on the verge of decline, and is practically trash!”
You’re the one messing around!
This is not how I wanted things to go——
“Very well, then, Theodore-sama. Why don’t you try and experience Alvart-sama’s true worth at your own risk?”
……
“Exactly what I wanted! You agree to this too, don’t you, Alvart!?”
……
…What excuse do I have?
But I can’t refuse now.
Her Highness the Princess has requested it, and even Theodore is fully motivated.
If I refuse now, my reputation would drop too much.
What I want is somewhere in the middle.
Too much happiness. Too much despair. A peaceful life without either is my ideal.
But if my reputation were to fall to the bottom, then I would have to taste bitterness that I would never want to experience.
That is why, I had no choice but to reply——
“——Very well. I will accept your challenge.”
