Chapter 44: Air Combat
I was observing the front lines as an observer, keeping an eye on both my army and the enemy.
“……Huh?”
A large number of enemy soldiers were approaching me.
“That’s quite a large scale.”
The enemy force was at the scale of a company. Despite the large number, they were just below the tactical level in terms of strength, with most of them being at the tactical level.
“This is Rino. I’ve confirmed a large number of enemies attacking. Reinforcements are unnecessary. However, I’m temporarily leaving the mission.”
“Understood. I’ll handle it as well… but are you sure you’ll be okay alone? It’s not that I doubt your abilities, but I’m a bit worried.”
“I’m fine. There’s no problem. I can take down the enemies by myself… though there might be a few that I miss.”
“As long as I have you, Lord Reno, I don’t need anyone else, so that’s not an issue. Good luck.”
“Yeah, thanks.”
After briefly communicating with Rino through transmission magic, I focused on the approaching enemy soldiers.
“Here we go.”
I conjured a sword with magic and, instead of engaging in long-range combat, I accelerated rapidly toward them and initiated close combat.
“……! Deploy!”
The unit, initially taken aback, experienced a moment of confusion and disarray. However, at the command of what seemed to be their female leader, they started scattering in different directions.
“Waaaaahhhhh!!!”
Among them, two men continued to advance toward me. Each of them held a single sword.
“Take this!”
“……!”
Before I could clash with them, the surrounding soldiers activated their magic.
A large number of spells aimed to bind my body.
“Gotcha!”
“Unfortunately, it’s a bluff.”
However, pretending to be affected by the magic was just a bluff. I wasn’t actually being affected by the magic.
“……Ah.”
I first decapitated one of the men who had approached me with a completely careless attitude.
“Damn…!”
The other man, who had been advancing with him, grimaced as he saw his companion cut down instantly and bravely attacked me.
“Whoa!”
As expected, the opponent wasn’t just a mere weakling. I couldn’t easily deflect their attacks.
“Step back!”
“Understood!”
While this was happening, I was hit by a large number of spells from the surrounding enemies. However, the barrier protecting me completely blocked them.
“……This might take some time.”
So many elite enemies. With a wry smile, thinking that this group alone could probably conquer a whole country, I began to deploy my own magic to counter them.

Chapter 45: Outnumbered
Surrounded by an overwhelming number of enemy soldiers who clearly should not be focusing on just one person, I was encircled from all directions—360 degrees, with no gaps, from above and below.
“……Damn, how can they stay so calm?”
“Even with such a difference in strength, are they still at the same tactical level?”
“Is this a dream?”
Even surrounded by so many soldiers and constantly hit by magic, I was holding my own in a magical duel.
“Truly outnumbered.”
Despite my efforts, the sheer number of enemies was too great. Due to the constant barrage of magic, I couldn’t use a massive spell that could wipe them all out, and even when I managed to hit someone with my magic, someone else would quickly use recovery magic, making it hard to reduce their numbers.
So far, I had only managed to take down the initial victim and eight more with quick kills.
“Don’t lose! We have an overwhelming number of troops on our side! Push through, push through somehow!”
I wish they would stop trying to overwhelm with numbers. This many enemies is just unfair.
“Hmph, hmph, hmm.”
While thinking this, I continued to cast a massive amount of magic and take attacks.
I hoped I could turn the situation around, but it seemed unlikely.
“Enough! Retreat!”
After a prolonged exchange, the enemies suddenly began to flee. They ran away in a panic.
“Fall!”
Caught off guard by the sudden retreat, I was unsettled, but I pursued them relentlessly without mercy.
With this level of force gathered, I wasn’t going to let them escape easily.
“Run! Run!”
In response, they fled with all their might.
“Waaaaahhhhhh!!!”
As they fled, a group of average-level fighters began approaching me.
“……The lord.”
It seemed they wanted to keep some important forces even if they had to retreat.
“Can’t be helped.”
The enemy was quick to retreat… and I couldn’t ignore the group heading my way.
“Should I give up?”
I decided to abandon the pursuit and shift my focus to annihilating the incoming group.

Chapter 46: Airborne Drop
After fighting fiercely against numerous tactical-level mages and then annihilating the mages who had been forced to fight as a rear guard, I looked down at the ground and understood.
“……I see.”
I understood why the tactical-level mages had been targeting me and trying to delay me.
“I’ve been completely outflanked.”
While I was engaged in battle with the tactical-level mages, I couldn’t maintain air superiority. During that time, enemy troops had been dropped into our territory via airborne deployment, causing ongoing confusion.
My country still hadn’t been able to prepare any tactical-level mages. Compared to other nations, our nobility has higher privileges. Even during a war, encouraging the nobles to participate and provide their tactical-level mages takes time.
Still, despite handling the quality of the situation on my own, just me being unable to move has led to this downfall.
“This is bad.”
In the end, war is all about morale. Even with a significant difference in troop numbers, having a single hero step forward and inspire others can often turn the tide. Morale decides the outcome of a war more than raw power.
This isn’t unique to our world with magic; it was the same in my previous life. History shows that a few can defeat many. Well, from around World War II, weapons became so powerful that morale alone couldn’t change things much.
“Hmm.”
That aside, let’s return to our military situation.
After a long period of defense, we finally launched an offensive. We fought to reclaim our homeland and advanced strongly. But that sense of excitement was quickly shattered by a single counterattack and was on the verge of collapsing.
“What did my father do?”
For some reason, the enemy’s morale was unusually high.
“This is Rino. Do you understand the situation at the front?”
After briefly assessing the situation, I contacted Rino.
“Yes, I understand. So? What do you think?”
“It’s probably a delaying tactic. The airborne troops and the ones currently attacking the front are all just decoys. In the back, the main forces are continuing their retreat.”
From my observations, the enemy was indeed continuing their retreat. Only a small part of the enemy was actually engaging in the attack.
“……I see. It seems we should halt our advance for now and focus on annihilating the enemy.”
“……Maybe. Yeah. Advancing under these conditions might not work out well. It might be better to focus on eliminating the enemy for now.”
