Chapter 7: Yelling “I’m Your Fiancé!” to Save the Villainess from Her Doomed Fate
“If this place gets broken through, the whole country’s done for. The people’s peace—it all depends on defending the Greivan border count territory!”
Valeria came at me hard, practically biting my head off.
For a villainess, what she was saying was way too sensible.
She didn’t look like she was trying to trick me with pretty words either.
The gap between this and her game impression threw me off so bad I couldn’t hide it.
“Come on, hurry up and take me to the front lines!”
“…Sorry, but no way in hell I can do that.”
“What did you just say…?”
Valeria’s eyebrows scrunched up in clear annoyance, her face twisting like she’d tasted something sour.
“If I take you to the front lines, you’re gonna die. You really think your body right now can handle being any kind of real fighting force?”
I clenched my fists tight and said it straight—no fancy polite speech, just my normal tone spilling out.
No matter what her real intentions were, to flip our doomed fate, I had to save her and make her an ally.
More than that, looking at her right now, she kinda overlapped with my big sister who died half a year ago.
If I’d stopped my sister from heading to the battlefield even by force back then… maybe she wouldn’t have died?
That regret had been eating at me the whole time.
“What a rude man. You’re saying I’d just die useless like that?”
She hit me with this ice-cold voice, but I didn’t back down.
“Yeah. It’d just be throwing your life away for nothing. Please—just give it one day, okay? Then I’ll heal that half-dead body of yours.”
In the original game, this version of me—Zenon—probably got steamrolled by her intensity and ended up taking her to the battlefield anyway.
If I was just following Father’s orders to keep her happy, that’d be the “right” move.
But the result? Total ruin. Valeria gets killed, this land gets trampled by the empire army.
No way that’s happening.
Wait for my MP to recover, then use Heal to fix up her 【Life Force】HP. That had to be the move that changes the future.
“I don’t get what you mean. One day of rest isn’t gonna fix my body. We don’t know when the enemy’s coming, so we need to lock down defenses with my undead troops right now!”
“…You seriously mean that?”
The girl standing in front of me felt nothing like the game’s villainess—like a completely different person.
She really looked like she was ready to sacrifice herself to protect this country.
“Of course I do. I’m the daughter of the Asphodel ducal house—the unbreakable sword of the kingdom. I have to carry on everyone’s will and beat back the empire army!”
“…Everyone’s will?”
Something about that stuck with me, so I went ahead and asked the thing that’d been bugging me.
“This might sound crazy, but… what happened to your Schwarz Ritter escorts?”
“…!”
Valeria’s face went hard, and she bit her lip tight.
“They’re dead.”
“Huh?”
“All of them—poisoned by that traitor saintess Alicia. I’m gonna win against the empire army to avenge their grudge, then use that achievement to go straight to His Majesty and expose Alicia’s crimes!”
Her eyes burned with rage as she shouted it out.
This was so far from the game scenario I knew that I just stood there stunned for a second.
“…That cute, angel-like Alicia did something like that?”
“Angel-like, you say?”
Valeria’s whole body shook with anger as she glared daggers at me.
“That girl’s deliberately trying to let the empire trample this country. She wants to become the savior with her [Miracle of Healing], crush any opposition, and become queen!”
“What…?”
Villainess Valeria and saintess Alicia were rivals over the crown prince.
So yeah, it made sense she’d badmouth Alicia.
…But calling her a traitor felt like going too far, even if parts of what Valeria said kinda rang a bell.
Why? Because in the game, saintess Alicia gets worshipped as the savior who stops the empire invasion and saves the kingdom. Then she marries the crown prince, becomes queen, and gets her happy ending.
But… what if? Just what if Alicia had been acting with clear intent from the start so things would turn out exactly like that?
“Maybe that’s why… whenever Father asked the capital for reinforcements, we got nothing back…”
“Exactly. Alicia pushed hard that the troops should go deal with the monster horde in the south instead. She blocked any aid to this place. After healing the king’s illness, she’s got huge influence over him now.”
That part had come up a little in the game too.
We’d thought maybe the king was over-relying on the invincible Sword Saint Baldo and just being too optimistic about the border situation.
But if Alicia had pulled strings to stop the reinforcements… yeah, that actually fit.
It was hard to believe the Alicia I knew would do that, but…
“I’m never letting Alicia get what she wants! This isn’t just me—it’s the collective will of every Schwarz Ritter who chose to become undead of their own accord!”
“What?”
Behind Valeria, countless shadowy, human-shaped black mists rose up. That creepy chill was definitely a swarm of the dead.
They all nodded at once.
I was speechless.
“…So the reason you’re this worn out is because you turned those poisoned escorts into undead?”
“Yeah, that’s right. Pathetic as it is, we got ambushed and defeated by Alicia and her people.”
Ah, so that’s why the carriage was trashed and there wasn’t a single servant.
The attackers killed everyone, and Valeria spammed her [Necromancer] skill magic like crazy to protect herself…
No way she’d go this far just to trick me.
After all, the price was her own 【Life Force】HP getting eaten by the undead—she could barely even stand straight.
Saintess Alicia was my favorite heroine.
…But the game scenario was only ever told from her point of view.
They say history’s written by the winners.
So maybe there’s a truth the game never showed.
If Alicia really had a hand in putting the Greivan border count territory in this desperate spot right now… if she’s deliberately letting the empire invade so she can become queen…
Then saintess Alicia might be the real enemy we need to watch out for. No way I could let Valeria—the one who knows the truth—die.
I took a deep breath and just said it.
“What if I told you I can use the same [Miracle of Healing] as saintess Alicia?”
“Huh…?”
Valeria blinked fast.
“The skill I got—[Super Recovery] —does the exact same thing as hers. Give it one day for my MP to refill, and I can heal your body.”
“Hmph. What are you even talking about… You got a trash skill, right? I heard you puked blood and collapsed at the temple.”
Valeria snorted unhappily and stepped back from me.
“If you can’t follow my orders, fine. I’ll have someone else guide me. Gawain, let’s go.”
The shaky-legged Valeria leaned on the silent carriage driver for support.
“No way you’re going.”
I stepped right in front of them to block the path.
“Using any more [Necromancer] skill magic in that condition is straight-up suicide.”
“Zenon Greivan, who the hell do you think you are?”
Who do I think I am…? Damn, she’s got attitude.
But yeah, her status was way higher than mine, so I froze for a second, not sure how to clap back.
Still—if I backed down here, there’d be no flipping our doomed fate.
To survive, even if it’s embarrassing as hell, I just had to say it.
“I’m your fiancé!”
“Wha…”
Valeria looked totally caught off guard.
“That’s… just my father arranging it so I could lead an army here. It’s nothing but a formality, right?”
Yeah, that was true.
But I’d come too far to back out now.
I had zero real dating experience, but I’d grinded otome games like crazy. I knew exactly what a hero would say to convince the heroine in a moment like this.
It was a gamble whether it’d work, but this was do-or-die.
“I don’t want you to die, Valeria. Because I’m the guy who’s gonna be your husband!”

I know she must be reeling from the shock of losing subordinates whom she’s known since she was a child were murdered in front of her, but Valeria is stupid for essentially helping her enemy Alicia out by trying to get herself killed by going into battle and using her remaining life force for a battle that could easily be postponed for later until she’s at full strength. So this conflict is rather stupid.
I mean… It’s better than being on enemy territory…
Wow I think this chapter could have been 2 paragraphs maybe 3. I’d be pissed if I had bought any of these chapters
