Chapter 43: Healing Father’s Eye and Scoring a Huge Victory
When I looked, a massive crater had formed right at the center of the explosion.
The real First Imperial Princess Leticia had probably swapped places with her body-double golem a long time ago and slipped away.
She must have been remotely controlling the double to collect real combat data on Alfin and the chimera soldiers while making absolutely sure to wipe us out—especially Father.
Just like in the game, she’s not someone you can take down with straightforward tactics.
Which means this isn’t over yet.
The most likely next move would be…
“What the—!? You coward!”
“Zenon!”
Valeria grabbed my right hand and poured her magic power into me.
“Heal!”
I touched Father and unleashed [Miracle of Healing].
I needed to get him back to full strength right away so he could block whatever came next.
In an instant, all the damage Father had taken so far—and his crushed right eye—were completely restored.
“…My right eye can see!? Power—power is surging through me!?”
“Eh? Is this the Saintess’s [Miracle of Healing]!?”
Father and Alfin stared in total shock. Luckily the fierce battle had already knocked Father’s eyepatch off, so he felt the effect immediately.
But there was no time to sit around explaining my skill in detail.
I cast Heal on myself too and recovered my damage, but between all the built-up blood loss and exhaustion, I was in no shape to keep fighting properly anymore.
So the only thing left was to give everyone instructions.
“It’s not over yet! Nee-san, Valeria—put up as many magic barriers overhead as you can!”
“Got it!”
“Eh? Magic barriers…? I can only do enchantments, though?”
“You don’t even realize you can use magic!? No—no, that’s actually fine! Just get ready for an attack from above!”
Valeria responded right away, but Alfin—who still barely grasped her new powers—looked totally confused.
In that case, the best thing was to let her handle it with the magic sword style she was already great at.
I picked up Fritz’s sword from the ground and handed it to Alfin.
“A salvo from large ballistae!?”
Father glared up at the night sky, every muscle tense.
It was too dark for me to see, but Leticia had apparently ordered her golem soldiers to rain a huge volley of giant arrows down on us.
“You can tell, Father!?”
“I can see them. Thanks to this revived right eye!”
“Ugh… the Demi Liches are already out of MP!”
Valeria bit her lip hard.
The Demi Liches must have completely run dry after so many back-to-back fights. Ideally we would’ve wanted multiple layers of barriers overhead, but all we had was the single magic barrier Valeria managed to deploy in the sky.
That wasn’t going to hold for long.
“Nee-san, get into a defensive stance!”
“Zenon!?”
There wasn’t much time left before impact.
I shoved Valeria down and covered her with my body. I’d shield her—and with Heal, even in the worst case I should be able to keep her safe.
That’s when Father roared.
“Arrows like these are nothing! Everyone, stay close together in one spot!”
Father shattered the ground under his feet and leaped high.
Then he swung his sword in one ferocious arc.
PAAAAAANNN!!
Hundreds—no, thousands—of arrows rushing down from above all shattered at once.
The sheer sword pressure had created a shockwave.
“Not a single one’s getting through!”
Father kept swinging, unleashing wave after wave of shockwaves to smash the incoming volleys.
The technique he was using was the same shockwave-generating move General Baldo relied on, except Father wasn’t even enchanting it with wind magic—he was breaking straight through the sound barrier on raw power alone.
As bits and pieces of pulverized arrows rained down, Father landed without a sound.
“As expected of Sword Saint Lord Baldo!”
“Father, that was incredible!”
Valeria and Nee-san showered him with praise, but Father shook his head as he touched down.
“No—it’s thanks to Zenon healing my body and giving the warning. Without that, I couldn’t have protected the family.”
Father kept staring at the sky for a while longer, then finally sheathed his sword.
“Looks like the attack’s stopped.”
He turned to me and spoke in a stunned voice.
“This right eye… it’s not just that my vision got better. It’s like I’ve gained the night-piercing sight of a beast. And my hands—once burned and ruined—now feel stronger than ever. Zenon, what in the world is going on!?”
“Zenon’s [Super Recovery]—doesn’t just heal injured bodies.”
Valeria puffed out her chest proudly as she explained for me.
“It strengthens the healed body. That’s the ability of his skill that surpasses even the Saintess’s [Miracle of Healing].”
“No way… something like that…!”
Father’s jaw dropped open.
“Zenon got his hands on an absolutely insane skill, huh!?”
Alfin was trembling with excitement.
“Yeah. It’s this power that let me turn Nee-san back after Leticia was controlling her.”
“Ah! Then does that mean my brain got smarter too!? Since it strengthens whatever it heals!?”
“Uh… I’m not so sure about that one…”
I tilted my head.
I had no idea whether the body-strengthening effect extended to the brain.
“Right! From the way you were talking earlier, Zenon, I can suddenly use tons of magic now, can’t I!? And magic power is supposed to be tied to intelligence, right!? Whoa—I can shoot fire! And it’s super strong!?”
Nee-san innocently held out her hand, and a massive burst of flame like a flamethrower roared out, scorching the ground black.
Father barely dodged the backlash in time and jumped back.
“What are you doing, Alfin!?”
“Ah—sorry, Father!”
“…No chant, no charge-up, and that kind of power!?”
Valeria pressed a hand to her mouth in shock.
“Wow. Alfin’s magic power has definitely gone up.”
If even basic spells are hitting like that…
She’s probably capable of unleashing attack magic stronger than that final full-power lightning strike Leticia threw earlier.
Discovering that [Super Recovery] could boost magic power by healing brain damage was honestly mind-blowing.
But taking Alfin—who was already top-tier—and pushing her magic ability even higher… that might actually be a little too dangerous.
“For now, we’ve gotta get Alfin to learn how to control her magic and manage the output.”
“Yeah… exactly. It’s like a total beginner suddenly gaining master-class power. That’s pretty risky.”
Valeria frowned with concern too.
“Oneesama, would you train in magic with me for a while? I think it would help increase the power of your magic sword too.”
“Eh? Valeria-sama is gonna teach me magic!? If it means powering up my magic sword, I’m totally in!”
“Thank you. Please, just call me Valeria. I’m your little sister-in-law, after all.”
“Yep, looking forward to it, Valeria! I’m so happy to have such a gorgeous little sister!”
Alfin happily accepted Valeria’s offer.
The two new family members shook hands.
If this meant Alfin could get even stronger, then I was all for it.
“Sorry, Zenon, but there’s something I need to confirm right away.”
Father came right up to me, barely able to hold back his excitement.
“If you healed all the wounded soldiers in our army with that power… couldn’t we create the strongest army in the world!? Right now we’ve got more than ten thousand injured men!”
