ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Early Saturday morning. The student council president election had safely ended, and coupled with the sense of liberation from the burden on my mind being lifted, I lay on my bed feeling happy as I slept soundly—when the door to my room swung open as if a storm had blown in.
“Onii-chan, it’s morning~! Take me somewhere to playyy! I’m bored bored bored bored bored~!!”
The noisy one had arrived. My little sister always slept until the very last minute on school days, but for some reason she had this childlike habit of waking up early only on holidays. Come to think of it… I remembered just now that Moe had told me to take her somewhere on our next day off as a reward for helping with the election posters. Still sleepy, I continued pretending to sleep, deciding to just wait for the storm to pass naturally.
“Heeey~ You’re ignoring me, huh? That makes me boyaaa sad. Well, in that case, I guess I’ll just send that screenshot I secretly took of Onii-chan’s search history to everyone in the group chat…”
Wait, wh— which search history? And Moe, that brat, she looked at my phone without permission!?
There were so many possible things she could’ve seen that narrowing it down was impossible. What on earth did Moe look at…?
“I didn’t know Onii-chan was into nurses. Let’s see, the title was… ‘Huge-Breasted Nurse Helps With Sexual Rel—’”
My guts froze and I shot out of bed so fast I nearly slammed my head into the ceiling.
“M-Moe! Today is such a perfect day for going out! I’ll take you anywhere you want!! All right, time to get ready, now!!”
“Yaaay, yayyy!”
Behind that innocent, pure smile, I felt like I saw a flicker of hidden wrath peeking out at me. It was very unsettling.
***
“Welcome. P-Please place your order…”
“One deluxe strawberry parfait with extra ice cream, and condensed milk and chocolate sauce on the side, pleaaase!”
Moe ordered with an innocent smile. We were at the family restaurant where Nazuna worked. I hadn’t really wanted to come because of what happened with Takamine, but Moe insisted she absolutely wanted the parfait from this place. I looked at the menu and froze. I had told her she could order anything she wanted, but this parfait cost 1,500 yen.
Seriously…? Wait, more importantly, this…
“H-Hey, Moe, doesn’t this condensed milk topping seem a bit too expensive at 300 yen…!?”
“But strawberries need condensed milk~”
“Then at least choose either the chocolate sauce or the condensed milk…”
“Ehh~ Can’t I have both…?”
Faced with my little sister’s pleading, puppy-like eyes, I made the decision to give up on buying the new manga volume I’d been planning to get later.
“Then Nazuna… And a coffee, please…”
“Certainly!”
Nazuna’s waitress outfit suited her so incredibly well that I couldn’t carelessly look at her directly.
“Yaaay, I love you, Onii-chan!”
That smile—2,480 yen, gone. If she had chosen this restaurant specifically because it would be harder for me to refuse… Then Moe had grown into quite the strategist. Watching us, Nazuna murmured with her head slightly lowered.
“Going out together on a holiday, just the two of you… I’m jealous of siblings who get along so well…”
“It’s less that we get along and more that she just walks all over me…”
“Hey, Onii-chan?”
From the meaningful glance my sister shot at me, I felt she was threatening me with an unspoken “Say something weird and I’ll continue the thing I was about to do this morning.”
Moe delightedly devoured the giant parfait—almost as big as her own face—in only five minutes.
“A-Are you already leaving…!?”
It was no wonder Nazuna was surprised. Our stay had been less than fifteen minutes.
“Yeah… She wants to go shopping next, apparently…”
While paying at the register, I glanced at Moe, who had gone ahead and was stretching leisurely outside the restaurant.
“Fufufu… You have it rough, don’t you, Onii-san?”
“W-Well, we’re the only siblings, so…”
“Still, Moe-chan must be lucky…”
Nazuna’s soft mutter didn’t reach me very clearly, so I simply said goodbye and left the store.
Dressed in a white sundress, Moe ran up to me, clasped her hands behind her back, and leaned forward.
“Onii-chan, thanks for the treat~!”
Thanks to that smile, I completely forgot about my now significantly lighter wallet. As we wandered around town afterward, Moe—walking slightly ahead of me—was approached by a blond guy with a flashy vibe. A pick-up attempt? I wondered, bracing myself a little, but when he realized I was with her, he immediately smiled brightly and greeted me.
“Are you her boyfriend? Your girlfriend is suuuper cute!?”
“Uh, ah…”
Unlike me, who didn’t know how to respond, Moe smiled happily and asked the guy.
“Ehh~ Does it really look like we’re dating~?”
After hearing the details, the guy turned out to be a stylist from the nearby hair salon, and he wanted to ask Moe to be a haircut model.
“Is it freeee~?”
The guy answered brightly.
“Of course it’s free! You just have to let us post a picture on the salon’s social media, that’s all! What do you think!?”
“Oh! Then I’ll do iiiit!”
“Hey, Moe, what about the shopping?”
“It’s fine. I mean, it’s free!? Onii-chan, just kill time somewhere! I’ll message you when I’m done!”
The stylist told me I could wait in the salon’s lobby, but waiting in a fashionable place like that felt mentally exhausting, so I declined. And so, suddenly alone, I reluctantly headed to a nearby bookstore. Right as I entered, I saw a familiar silhouette. I could only see her backside, but I knew that figure well.
“K-Konno-san…?”
Konno-san, wearing a black beret and an autumn-like girly outfit, turned around at the new arrivals shelf.
“Ah… Kurosaki-kun, what a coincidence.”
So she said in her usual languid voice.
