- I Was Reincarnated As a Man who Steals The Protagonist’s Childhood Friend
- 4 - A Fulfilling Day
“Come on down! Dinner’s ready!”
As Minami-san’s voice called out to us, we slowly released our embrace, knowing that our small event had come to an end. Descending the stairs together, I couldn’t help but notice a significant shift in Hoshino’s demeanor. There was an undeniable air of contentment and happiness radiating from her. I wondered if it was just my imagination or something else. (A/N: Wtf bruh)
With a heavy sigh, I paused for a moment, still in a state of shock and disbelief. The events that had unfolded tonight were beyond my comprehension, leaving me perplexed and searching for answers as to how everything had even transpired in the first place.
As we gathered around the table, a feast awaited us, a sight that filled my senses with anticipation. A variety of mouthwatering dishes adorned the surface, showcasing a splendid array of flavors and textures. Nikujaga, sweet and sour pork, a comforting miso soup, and a refreshing veggie salad had composed our simple yet delectable meal.
Seating ourselves at the small table, the three of us bowed our heads in gratitude, expressing our thanks for the nourishment before us. My chopsticks eagerly reached out for the sweet and sour pork, as I carefully took a bite, relishing the blend of tangy sweetness and savory richness.
“So, Takeshi-kun, how does the food taste?” Minami-san turned her attention to me and inquired.
With a smile, I replied, my taste buds still savoring the delectable flavors, “It’s absolutely delicious, Minami-san.”
“Hee~hee, I’m delighted to hear that,” Minami-san responded, her eyes sparkling with satisfaction.
Half an hour slipped away and the delightful dinner came to a close, I found myself preparing to bid farewell and return to my apartment. Expressing my heartfelt gratitude, I extended my thanks to Minami-san for her culinary prowess, acknowledging the delicious dishes she had prepared with such care and skill.
Standing before the door of the house, I turned around to find Hoshino’s presence there, like a comforting beacon in the twilight.
“Thank you so much for inviting me, Hoshino. I’ve truly had a remarkable time.” Gratitude overflowed within me as I expressed my heartfelt appreciation to her, my words carrying the weight of my sincerity.
“If you ever feel like it, please remember that this door is always open for you. Don’t hesitate to visit anytime you want.” Her warm smile embraced me as she replied.
Yet, a lingering hesitation held me back. Concern crept into my voice as I confessed, “I can’t help but worry that my presence may burden you and your household. I wouldn’t want to impose or disrupt upon you.”
Hoshino’s reassurance was steadfast though, with her voice a gentle melody. “Please believe me when I say that you would never be a nuisance here. Your company is sincerely valued, and it would bring us great joy to have you as our guest.”
Her words found their way into my heart, and I finally give in, accepting her gracious offer with a grateful sigh. “Well, if you insist, I gratefully accept your invitation”
“It’s a promise, then. I look forward to having you here more often” A joyful giggle escaped Hoshino’s lips as she replied.
As our conversation came to a close, there was a sense of farewell lingering in the air. I returned my attention to Hoshino, admiring her alluring physique. It hit me, possibly for the first time, just how stunning she really was. Her title as a ‘heroine’ isn’t just for show. I know I said this before but I still cannot believe that this is the same heroine that the old Takeshi brutally broke. She is much more gentle and calm compared to her other self in the doujin.
Moved by an impulse I couldn’t suppress, I reached out and gently took hold of her hand, my palms enclosing around hers. Surprise danced across her face, momentarily stealing her breath.
“Thank you once again, Hoshino,” I murmured, my voice filled with genuine appreciation. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
With an unexpectedly bright smile, Hoshino bid me farewell, her voice carrying warmth and concern. “Good night, Takeshi-kun. Take care and stay safe.”
Reluctantly, I released her hand, aware of the fleeting nature of our connection. Turning away, I carried within me a renewed sense of satisfaction, mingled with anticipation for the days that lay ahead.
3rd Person POV
As Takeshi departed from the house, a lingering sense of emptiness threatened to envelop Hoshino’s heart. It was an ache born from the temporary separation, but she knew deep within that their paths would soon cross again within the walls of their classroom. The anticipation of seeing him tomorrow ignited a spark of excitement within her, dispelling the encroaching emptiness.
Returning to the solitude of her room, Hoshino found herself drawn to the spot where Takeshi had stood just moments ago. A mix of embarrassment and a peculiar sense of satisfaction filled her being, as she reflected upon the boldness of her actions. Though she blushed at the memory of pushing Takeshi to the ground, she couldn’t deny that every daring moment had been worth it, for it revealed a connection between them that held the promise of something extraordinary.
Her gaze shifted to her hand, the very hand that Takeshi had held tightly in his grasp. It seemed to bear a newfound significance, a symbol of their brief yet meaningful encounter. As she marveled at this tangible connection, a decision took hold within her.
“Takeshi held this hand of mine,” Hoshino whispered to herself, a smile gracing her lips. “I’m not washing it again.”
Embracing the sentimentality of the moment, Hoshino climbed onto her bed and laid down, her back pressing gently against the soft sheets. With a sense of contentment, she turned her face upwards, allowing her thoughts to wander through the realm of possibilities that awaited them.
With the upcoming tests looming just two days away, Hoshino’s attention shifted from her momentary bliss to the pressing responsibilities that awaited her. Glancing at the time displayed on her bedside phone, which read 8:10 PM, she realized she needed to refresh her memory on the discussions she had with her teachers in the past few days.
Quickly getting up from her bed, Hoshino made her way towards her desk, her handbag neatly tucked beneath it. Retrieving her notes and the essential materials required for her exam review, she felt a sense of determination wash over her. It was in moments like these, when she embraced her studious nature, that her diligent reputation truly shone.
Nakano Hoshino was a remarkable individual, excelling not only in academics but also in athletics. Her multifaceted talents and charismatic personality had earned her great popularity within her class. She was admired and respected, admired for her achievements and respected for her nurturing demeanor towards her classmates. She also cares a lot for her classmates and her one and only childhood friend. It’s no wonder Naoki was so smitten by her.
Despite the fulfillment she found in caring for others, no one seems to understand her feelings, not even her childhood friend. However, fate had a peculiar way of intervening, and it was through the presence of one particular individual, Ueno Takeshi, that Hoshino’s world found its completion. To an outsider, Takeshi may have appeared ordinary, but to Hoshino, he was an irreplaceable presence, a precious man who held a special place in her heart. Being in his company never failed to bring her joy.
The impact of that fateful meeting had caused Hoshino’s world to undergo a profound transformation. The significance of Takeshi’s presence in her life propelled her to a place where she would go to great lengths to express her gratitude and repay him in anyway possible.
Unbeknownst to Hoshino, time had slipped away, and the clock had now displayed 10:30 PM. More than two hours had passed since Takeshi left their house, and a yearning to hear his voice one last time before the day concluded overwhelmed her. However, a sense of concern gripped her, worrying that reaching out to him at this hour might disrupt his activities. But her desire to connect with him, to hear the sound of his voice, grew too strong to ignore. With a mixture of hesitancy and determination, she decided to give him a call.
“I want to hear his voice. It’s like my day feels incomplete without hearing the sound of his voice,” she admitted to herself, recognizing the intensity of her longing. With a gaze fixed upon her phone’s contact list, she located Takeshi’s number. Gathering her courage, she dialed his number, and the phone began to ring. Time seemed to stretch as each ring echoed in the quiet room. Disappointment flickered across her face when her initial attempt went unanswered. But Hoshino was not one to easily give up. She resolved to try once more, dialing his number again. Ring. Ring. Ring. Finally, he picked up the call, and a wave of happiness washed over Hoshino’s emotions.
“Sorry for not picking up earlier. I was taking a bath. What’s up?” Takeshi’s voice flowed through the line, carrying a hint of curiosity and warmth.
Hoshino’s voice was filled with pleasure and satisfaction at having finally reached him. “Oh, Takeshi, I’m glad you answered! I just wanted to hear your voice one more time before the day ended. It makes me so happy to be able to talk to you; I hope you don’t think that’s strange.”
As they engaged in a late-night conversation, Hoshino’s heart brimmed with joy, grateful for the connection they shared. The sound of his voice provided a sense of comfort and reassurance, completing the day in a way that only he could. In that moment, Hoshino realized that the bond they had formed was truly special, and she cherished every opportunity to hear his voice, whether in person or over the phone.
What was she gonna do if he was sleeping and woke him up? Don’t most students sleep during this time? 😂
