- Chapter 7: I'm Not a Fat Loser Anymore.
Normally, as I get absorbed in games, anime, and idols, summer vacation would come to an end, and I, who had become even more of fat, would head to school with everyone giving me disapproving looks.
“Hey, who are those three hot guys?”
“Looking at their uniforms, they seem like second years, but I’ve never seen them before.”
“Transfer students, perhaps?”
“The tall guy in the middle is so handsome. He’s my type. Should I try talking to him later?”
“He definitely has a girlfriend, right?”
“Who knows, even if he does, hehe.”
As we passed through the main gate, the students at the school who saw our stylish appearance began whispering among themselves. Keisuke, who had social anxiety, was trembling and clinging to my side.
“Itsuki-kun… I’m scared of everyone’s gazes.”
I looked at Keisuke’s face, hidden by his long bangs swaying with his blue hair, and pained, I patted his tense shoulders and spoke.
“Don’t worry about it. But if anything happens, just let me know.”
“Yeah… I’ll contact you, Itsuki-kun…”
I smiled at Keisuke and then looked alternately at Manabu and him, speaking.
“We’ll meet at our usual spot during lunch.”
“Sure! Got it! Itsuki, do your best in class!”
With a thumbs-up, I used all my strength, Manabu forcefully thrust his thumb while locking eyes, and Keisuke nodded quietly.
Then we each headed to our respective classrooms.
(Hmm, quite a commotion. Well, it’s natural after summer vacation) I thought to myself as I entered the classroom.
However, the moment I entered, the lively classroom fell completely silent, as if someone had poured cold water on it.
“…?”
“?”
As soon as everyone in the class saw me, they froze with their mouths half open. After a few seconds, they started whispering.
I paid no mind and walked towards my seat at the back.
“As usual, this is pretty bad.”
The desks were covered in graffiti like “Even after summer vacation, you’re still a fatso,” “Stinky,” “Die,” and the like.
I was no longer fatty or smelly, and I have no reason to die.
I took out my bag and started erasing the graffiti with an eraser. However, this stuff is not coming off easily. I wonder if I’ll make it in time for class.
As I worried about that, I heard a familiar voice.
“Kondo-kun, good morning.”
“Uh-huh”
I responded casually without making eye contact.
“””K-Kondo, is that really him!?”””
I know you are surprised, but isn’t that bit of an overreaction?
“W-What happened?”
“I can’t believe it!”
They were saying things like that, and I continued erasing the graffiti without caring. Seriously, this stuff is not coming off. Will I make it to class on time?
As I struggled with that, a pleasant fragrance tickled my nose.
“Geez, Kondo-kun, you’re so cold!”
“Huh?”
Kanzaki pouted and crossed her arms in front of me. Like me, she had black hair, but unlike my unruly hair, her long hair appeared soft, gently swaying. She had a well-endowed body that would be fitting for a main heroine, especially when she crossed her arms, her conspicuously large bust seemed to flaunt its presence.
She turned her face away slightly and blushed, muttering with a meaningful tone.
“You were very gentle back then…”
“””Wait, he was gentle!?”””
Everyone in the class was surprised by her reaction.
No, this could lead to various misunderstandings; it feels quite dangerous.
“I got it! Sorry for being casual earlier! Good morning, Kanzaki.”
“Fufu… Let’s continue to get along well!”
“Yeah.”
With a grin on her face, she returned to her seat.
No one was giving me contemptuous glares anymore.
There was one gaze that caught my attention, but well, it didn’t matter.
By the time the graffiti had disappeared, the chime for the next class rang.
—
First period ended, and I headed to the restroom for a break.
Relieved that there were no longer guys kicking my rear while I urinated, I sighed and then washed my hands. After finishing my business, I walked towards the exit.
Then, a familiar blond-haired guy stood in the middle of the entrance and stared at me blankly. It wasn’t the usual expression of looking at trash, but rather, he seemed soulless as he gazed at me.
It was Hayama, Kanzaki’s childhood friend.
The moment I saw his face, memories of the words he had thrown at me in the past rushed through my mind.
[You’re disgusting, you damn fatty. Just being around you makes me sick. I wish you would disappear.]
I furrowed my brows and glared at him. And after several seconds passed with Hayama still not moving from the middle of the entrance, I opened my mouth in a low tone.
“Move aside. Can’t you see I need to pass?”
“Y-yes…”
Why is he suddenly using polite language?
Hayama averted his gaze from me and moved to the side. I let out a short breath and tried to walk past him. However,
“Wait a moment.”
Hayama called out to me from behind as I exited the restroom. I stopped and turned halfway to face him.
“What is it?”
“What happened between you and Kanna?”
Hayama’s lips trembled, and he nervously asked.
“Nothing happened.”
I replied emotionlessly and then turned on my heel to head back to class.
I had helped Kanzaki when she was bothered by some guy, but I had no intention of making a big deal out of it or showing off. Besides, there was absolutely nothing to feel guilty about between Kanzaki and me.
Above all, considering his past words and actions, there was no obligation to answer.

Hayama’s Side:
Watching Kondo’s broad back as he got further away, Hayama continued to stand in the middle of the exit, forgetting to enter the restroom.
“Damn it…”
Muttering secretly to himself, Hayama clenched his fist and bit his lip.
Deserved.
