- Chapter 57: Jenga on the Verge of Collapse
The veil announcing the arrival guests rang, and the room, filled with the sounds of maids enjoying games and chatting, fell silent as if a bucket of cold water had been poured.
Since most of the guests here are regulars, they already knew what kind of girl Marin, also known as Maririn, was.
However, the current Marin was engaged in actions that deviated from the image everyone held of her.
The first to react to her actions was Keisuke’s sister, Kanon.
Though Kanon initially seemed surprised, she soon grew angrier, pulling out a stun gun from her own bag.
“I won’t forgive you for doing something like this to my Onii-sama. I won’t forgive you, won’t forgive you, won’t forgive you, won’t forgive you, won’t forgive you, won’t forgive you… I won’t forgive you!!!”
Eyes wide open, she approached Marin with the stun gun.
“!”
Kanon’s gaze fundamentally differed from Marin’s; it was for the sake of protecting her precious family.
She wouldn’t let her big brother go through pain anymore.
Having been protected in the past, now it was her turn to protect.
Although she didn’t possess a strong physique like her master, recalling the master’’s figure, she was determined to do her best.
Marin, shocked, distanced herself from Keisuke.
If things continued like this, it could become a police matter.
Keisuke, thinking this, restrained Kanon’s hand emitting murderous intent, hugging her to immobilize her.
“Onii-sama!”
As she reflexively said this, men and women in black suits appeared from the back.
“We sincerely apologize!!!”
The man said that and ordered the women. In response, they restrained Marin.
Unexpected events unfolded, causing a commotion around.
Keisuke’s hand trembled intensely, and the vibration transmitted directly to Kanon’s body.
However, he gathered courage and spoke.
“I-I wanted to try… this kind of play.”
“”!!!!!!!!””
The room, filled with murmurs, fell silent in an instant, and everyone stared in astonishment.
“Kanon, let’s go. There’s no reason to stay here anymore.”
“O-Onii-sama!?”
“We’re leaving.”
“Yes! Understood!”
Keisuke released Kanon and began walking, holding only her hand. He shivered, glancing at the restrained Marin for a few seconds. However, from a distance, it would appear as if Marin was merely frightened.
The two went to the cashier, settled the bill, and left the maid cafe.
Silently, they walked through the town bathed in the sunset.
Yet, their hands remained tightly connected, almost as if proving their bond.
After walking through the streets for a while, Keisuke took out his phone and made a call.
[Keisuke? What’s wrong?] came the voice of his best friend, Itsuki Kondo.
“…”
However, Keisuke remained silent, offering no response to Itsuki, who was seeking an answer.
[Keisuke?]
“…”
[Don’t tell me… Are you in trouble right now? Keisuke, where are you? I’ll come right away!]
“…”
[Keisuke!!]
Worried that something terrible might be happening to Keisuke again, Itsuki called his name loudly.
“Marin is dangerous. Be careful.”
[What?!]
Saying that, Keisuke hung up the phone.
He didn’t intend to worry Itsuki, but words wouldn’t come out easily. Even though he had become somewhat more articulate, the guilt of causing trouble to an important friend left him looking down with a sense of remorse.
However, Keisuke’s silence during the call with Itsuki inadvertently served the purpose of etching his words into Itsuki’s mind.
Putting his phone back into his pocket, Keisuke walked with Kanon and contemplated.
This could be a good stimulus.
However, his hands were still trembling, just like before.
To calm him down once again, Kanon closed the distance between them.

“Oh yeah, that girl seriously has a huge chest. Yeah, yeah. But her defenses are crazy strong, yeah, yeah. But if you can sweet-talk your way in, it might work.”
Shota was once again engrossed in discussions about girls today.
“Kanna? Well, she’s sharp, so if I try to make a move, she notices right away and doesn’t get close. Yeah, yeah.”
As they were having this kind of conversation, the powerful sound of the front door being forcefully thrown open echoed.
“Oh, looks like my sister’s here. I’ll call you back later.”
However, Shota was persistent.
“I told you, Marin isn’t interested in you, right? She likes handsome guys, so unless you’re as cool as me, it might not work. See ya.”
With a disgustingly smug expression, he hung up.
Then, looking towards the door leading to the entrance, he saw Marin, her face contorted with anger on the verge of exploding.
“What’s wrong?”
As Shota asked while sitting on the sofa, Marin, with intensity in her gaze, turned her face away.
“It’s nothing, really.”
She said so, but she couldn’t hide her expression.
Shota, convinced that something was indeed going on, observed Marin’s figure in her school uniform from behind.
As Keisuke recalled, looking at her well-defined body and the nicely shaped slender legs, partially exposed from the skirt covering her ample buttocks.
[Hmm, could it be that you’re feeling inferior to Itsuki-chi?]
[Well, back then, Itsuki was a typical overweight anime nerd, but now he’s totally different. He’s taller than you, handsome, kind, and… he’s strong, too.]
“…”
Seeing Marin ascend the stairs, Keisuke’s lips curled up again, displaying a displeasing smile.
“Arrogant guy.”
Upon reaching her room, Marin forcefully threw her bag.
“Damn it!”
She had been playing the role of the perfect self until now.
Every day, men called her handsome and confessed to her, recognizing her as a beauty.
Because of that, Marin liked herself.
She was acknowledged as the Madonna at school and relied upon at her part-time job.
There was nothing lacking in herself. With effort, she could aim higher. If she worked hard, she could have everything she desired.
Observing Marin from a distance, she might seem to be living a fulfilled life.
Marin herself believed so too.
However, Upon hearing Keisuke’s words, everything crumbled away.
Despite him offering an inexplicable follow-up that turned the situation into a mere mishap, everything she had held dear and thought had supported her collapsed.
“Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! You little unimpressive, socially awkward mess!! To someone like me…”
Diving onto the bed, she clenched her fists in frustration, vigorously pounding the mattress.
Why did she lose her temper and act out of character just because of some remark from an unremarkable guy?
She could blame everything on others like her brother did, but Marin chose not to and pondered on it.
Then, an unpleasant premonition crossed her mind.
The image of the girl named Marin that she had built up until now might actually be as unstable as a Jenga tower on the verge of collapsing.
“…”
No, that can’t be. I am me. I am Hayama Marin.
Even now, her phone received messages from friends about stories of mixer parties with college students, and guys expressing clear intentions to get closer to her.
However, Keisuke’s words lingered in her mind. The uneasy premonition continued to tighten around her heart.
So, she vowed to definitely bring Itsuki down and make him hers.
To solve the problem, she decided not to crush the root cause but to bring in another significant issue and solve that. She believed that by doing so, the discomfort in her chest would disappear.
Marin’s face resembled that of a snake targeting its prey.
