I Was Oblivious to the Subtle ‘Yandere’ Side of My Nonchalant Sex Friend Gyaru - Chapter 4
Chapter 4:
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“So? How was your date with Arisu?”
Right after Kurenai had finished taking a shower, we immediately did it. Then, after we were finished, Kurenai asked me that question.
“Nothing much. In the end, Tanaka-senpai didn’t show up either, so that trip was a waste of time.”
“Hm. So you didn’t go to a hotel or anything.”
“There’s no way I’d do that. She’s the serious type who says she could never date a guy she doesn’t even like.”
“But, if Arisu had invited you, would you have gone?”
Looking at me, yet without changing her expression, she asked almost in exasperation.
“Who knows. But I probably wouldn’t have gone.”
“So a girl like Arisu isn’t your type.”
“I don’t even know what my type is. But you can’t just do it and then say ‘bye’ with someone like that. That kind of thing is a hassle.”
I knew it was probably inappropriate to be having this conversation with a sex friend I’d been seeing every day, but I ended up saying it anyway. Yet as usual, she didn’t change her expression at all and said.
“So, in the end, a sex friend is just right for you.”
“…Yeah, maybe. Dating and all that is exhausting. What about you?”
“I’ve never had a boyfriend, so I don’t know. But maybe I’m the same.”
“I see. By the way, it’s getting late. What do you want to do? It’s pretty dark around here, so I’ll walk you home.”
“What’s this, you’re acting like my boyfriend even though you’re just my sex friend.”
Saying that, Kurenai didn’t make any move to get out of the bed.
“Hey, can I stay over?”
“Huh? I don’t mind, but what about your folks at home?”
“I’ll just say I’m staying at a friend’s place, so it’s fine. I’m getting sleepy, and having you walk me home would just piss me off.”
“What’s with that?”
“Anyway, I’m gonna borrow your shower. And lend me your jersey or something to sleep in.”
Kurenai stood up quickly, hiding her body with the towel blanket that was nearby.
“Is this kind of thing tiring for you?”
She asked. Then, without waiting for my answer, she left the room and headed for the bathroom.
◇◇◇
“…Ngh.”
When I woke up, the room was already completely bright. Apparently, I had fallen asleep before Kurenai came back. She… Was already gone, huh. Well, that made sense. She wouldn’t want to show her sleeping face to someone who wasn’t even her boyfriend.
“Yawn… Oh yeah, I’m off today.”
Lately, a week had been flying by in the blink of an eye. Every day I went to school, then Kurenai came over, and sometimes I went to my part-time job. Weekdays just slipped away like that before I knew it.
But weekends felt weirdly long in contrast. It was fine while I was working in the afternoon, but the nights felt endless after I got home. I hardly watched TV or read books and Kurenai didn’t come over either. When I was with her, time passed in the blink of an eye.
Well, mostly because we were just having sex.
“All right, time to get up.”
I straightened out the messy futon, got dressed, and headed for the sink. There, in the changing area, I found one of my shirts neatly folded.
“…She’s really meticulous about things like this.”
With my toothbrush in my mouth, I stared at the shirt I’d lent Kurenai yesterday. Absentmindedly, I found myself picturing her face from last night.
◇◇◇
“Welcome!”
The family restaurant near my house, where I worked part-time, turned into an entirely different place during weekend lunch hours—it got unbelievably busy. Without a moment to think, I just kept serving customers, clearing tables, and washing dishes as time flew by.
“Aoyama-kun, once you clear table three, you can clock out!”
“Yes, thank you!”
I answered the manager, cleared the table, and headed to the kitchen in the back. When I glanced at the clock, it was already 4 p.m. Time really flew by.
“Good work today, Aoyama-kun!”
“Good work. Are you done too, Asou-san?”
“Yep. It gets quiet here after this.”
“Yeah, that’s true.”
The one who called out to me backstage was Mariko Asou, a fellow part-timer. She was a year ahead of me at school, but we only ever talked here at work. She was a beauty with sleek black hair tied in a ponytail and sharp, striking eyes. She worked fewer shifts than I did, but being my senior, I often relied on her at work.
“Aoyama-kun, you always work on your days off. Don’t you have a girlfriend or something?”
“Nope. What about you, Asou-san? You’ve been working less lately. Did you get a boyfriend or something?”
“Ah, well, um, it’s just…”
Her reply trailed off awkwardly. I figured it must have been something about a guy, but I deliberately didn’t press her.
“Well, everyone has their own stuff going on. Thanks for today.”
“H-Hey, wait a second. Aren’t you going to hear me out first?”
“Hear you out about what?”
“Haah.. You’re really a dry one, you know that, Aoyama-kun? How about grabbing a coffee with me?”
Though she asked casually, the way she stood by the exit made it clear she was desperate for me to listen to her. Or rather, it seemed like she just wanted anyone to lend an ear.
“Well, if you’re treating me, I’m in.”
“Ahaha~ I’ll treat you, I’ll treat you! Let’s go to a café a bit down the street.”
“Wouldn’t this place be fine?”
“Ehh? But isn’t it kind of annoying to spend the money we just earned right back at the same place?”
“Well, you have a point.”
“Right? Then I’ll get changed. You can head out first and wait for me.”
Asou-san headed toward the locker room in the back. Normally, I’d never accept an invitation like this. But I’d been wondering how to kill time this evening, so maybe it wouldn’t be so bad for once.
When did I start thinking like this?
Realizing I was acting out of character, I stepped outside the store and waited for Asou-san to come.
