I Was Oblivious to the Subtle ‘Yandere’ Side of My Nonchalant Sex Friend Gyaru - Chapter 30-31
Chapter 30:

“Haa… What am I even doing?”
I couldn’t stop the words from slipping out as I bought drinks at the convenience store. I had left school early at noon, let myself into his room without permission, and even made him rice porridge on my own.
It wasn’t like I was trying to appeal to him or make him like me. I just did it because I was worried about him.
“Haa…”
My sighs wouldn’t stop. I had told him I was going to buy drinks and left, so I needed to get back soon, but my steps felt so heavy as I headed toward his house.
“Huh? Hey, Yuzu!”
“…Arisu?”
Right before I could return to his place, I ran into Arisu.
“What are you doing out here? Didn’t you leave early today because you weren’t feeling well?”
“Ah, yeah… Well, I felt a bit better, so I went out to get some drinks from the convenience store.”
“I see, I see. I wonder if Minato also stayed home because he was sick? It sounds like there’s something going around.”
“…Who knows.”
“If I knew where he lived, I’d totally go visit him to see how he’s doing. But Minato never talks about himself, so nobody in class knows where he lives. Seriously… I hope he’s okay.”
Arisu’s gaze drifted off into the distance, landing on the old apartment building nearby. I knew that the room in the middle of the second floor there was the one she was looking for—his room.
But I couldn’t tell her. And I didn’t want to. Arisu was always such a kind friend, always looking out for someone like me. Yet I couldn’t bring myself to support her feelings for him. But at the same time, I didn’t have the courage to shatter the illusion she held, either.
“I should get going.”
“Ah, sorry for keeping you when you’re not feeling well. Make sure you’re all better by tomorrow, okay?”
“Yeah. See you.”
I started walking slowly in the opposite direction. Then, after turning back in front of his apartment to make sure Arisu was no longer in sight, I climbed the stairs quietly and returned to his room.

Chapter 31:

“Here, your drink.”
Kurenai finally returned to the room.
“Ah, thanks.”
“You ate everything.”
“It was delicious. You’re really good at cooking, you know.”
“I’m not exactly happy to be praised for rice porridge.”
“Yeah, I guess that’s fair.”
“More importantly, your face still looks pale. Why don’t you lie down?”
Saying that bluntly, Kurenai quickly gathered up the dishes and headed to the kitchen.
“H-hey, I can clean those up later myself.”
“It’s fine. More importantly, hurry up and get better.”
“…Why do you care so much about me, anyway?”
Judging by the time, Kurenai must have left school early to come here. I didn’t know if it was just a coincidence, or if she came because I’d missed school without telling anyone. But why would she go so far as to take care of me like this?
When I asked, she looked a little embarrassed.
“…You can’t do it if you’re not feeling well, right?”
“Ah, ahaha… Well, yeah, true.”
“D-don’t get the wrong idea. It’s not like I’m desperate or anything. I just don’t want you trying it while you’re sick and ending up giving me your cold.”
“…There’s no way I could do that in this condition.”
“Even if you begged, I’d say no. Now hurry up and sleep.”
“…Yeah.”
Seeing Kurenai trying to act tough made me feel oddly at ease. I quietly lay back down on my bed. As I closed my eyes, I could only hear the sound of her busily cleaning up. For some reason, that sound felt comforting right now.
Before I knew it, I drifted off to sleep again.
◇◇◇
After sleeping for about an hour, I woke up to find that Kurenai was gone. I immediately checked the clock and gasped. Today was my shift at my part-time job. But there was no way, in my current post-fever state, that I could walk all the way to work.
I felt bad about calling in only an hour before my shift, but going in and working half-heartedly would be worse, so I picked up the phone to call my manager.
“…Ah, hello, this is Aoyama.”
“Oh, Aoyama-kun! What’s up?”
“Uh, I’m really sorry for the short notice, but I’ve had a fever since this morning…”
“Oh, are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m feeling a lot better now, though.”
“I see. But don’t worry, today is super slow. Take the day off. By the way, you live alone, right? Are you okay with meals and everything?”
“Yes, I’m fine with that.”
“Alright then. Make sure you take care of yourself.”
I heard bustling voices in the background, and the manager hurriedly ended the call. He was probably really busy, but he lied about it being slow so I wouldn’t feel guilty.
I wished I could come up with thoughtful lies like that, too.
Thinking that, I slowly stood up and looked around the room. It seemed cleaner than before. Maybe Kurenai had done some tidying up for me.
…She said she just wanted me to get better so we could do it again. While wishing those words had been a lie, I stared absentmindedly at the quiet room.
