I Was Oblivious to the Subtle ‘Yandere’ Side of My Nonchalant Sex Friend Gyaru - Chapter 14-15
Chapter 14:
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Even though summer was almost here, the outside air was still chilly once it got late at night. I wondered if wearing a short-sleeved shirt had been a mistake. Thinking about that, I trudged alone down the pitch-black road.
I found myself thinking about Asou-san.
“…She’s really so foolish.”
In the end, she was just lonely. That was why, whenever someone showed her kindness, she couldn’t help but want to lean on them.
That was what had happened just earlier, too. When she said those things, most guys probably would’ve just gone ahead and taken advantage of her right then. She would probably have let them, too.
Come on, didn’t I just tell her not to sell herself short?
“Haah…”
I felt more exhausted than I’d expected as I worried whether someone—like the police—might find me suspicious to walk back home in the dark like this. Finally making it back safely, I let out a small sigh of relief, went into my dark room, and collapsed onto my bed without turning on the light.
I wondered what Asou-san was doing right now. Had her parents already come home? Or was she still alone, crying in her room?
Those thoughts flashed through my mind, but I shook my head hard to drive them away. If I was going to worry this much, I should have just stayed with her. Besides, she had her family. She would be fine, even without me worrying.
But what about me? When, and to whom, was I supposed to unload this indescribable feeling?
“…Kurenai.”
I glanced over at the empty space beside me. I found myself searching for her figure, lying there like she always did, looking bored while fiddling with her phone. Of course, there was no sign of her.

“Hey, Minato!”
The next morning, when I left home a bit earlier than usual, a familiar voice called out my name from behind.
“Yumekawa?”
“It’s rare to see you out at this hour. Got something going on?”
“Not really. Just woke up early. But you’re always up early, huh?”
“Well, yeah. They say the early bird gets the worm.”
“Hm. Then maybe I’ll have something good happen today, too.”
Muttering that, feeling a bit overwhelmed by Yumekawa’s already bright mood—like something good had already happened—I heard her say.
“Isn’t meeting me lucky enough?”
She then flashed me a teasing grin.
“You’re surprisingly full of yourself.”
“Geez, I’m obviously joking! But I think I’m glad I got up early today.”
“Why’s that?”
“Why, he asks… For someone who’s usually sharp, you’re really dense sometimes.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Oh, nothing. Oh, that reminds me—”
She kept walking briskly to keep pace with me as she brought up another question with a mischievous smile.
“Minato, do you have work today?”
“Work? No, I’m off today. Why?”
“Really? Well, I have a favor to ask—”
“Not again. I’m done with pretending to be your boyfriend.”
“Ugh, I know! It’s not that. See, there’s this keychain I really want at the arcade, but I need your help to get it.”
“What the heck.”
“Because you’re good at crane games! I’ll pay, so please, will you?”
“I mean, that was just pure luck last time—”
“Please? Won’t you?”
“…Well…”
I couldn’t come up with a good excuse to refuse, and ended up reluctantly agreeing.
“But don’t complain if I can’t get it.”
“I know, I know! Then it’s a date! We will have a date after school, okay?”
I just hoped nothing bad would happen again. As I worried about that, the school building finally came into view. I thought we were probably the first to arrive, but voices from morning club practices were already echoing from the sports ground, and I could see figures near the main gate.
“Everyone is really early.”
“You’re actually the one who’s late, Minato. Well, Yuzu cuts it even closer, though.”
“Hey, Yumekawa—are you close with Kurenai?”
“Hmm, we don’t really hang out or anything, but Yuzu’s probably the only one I’ve been with since elementary school.”
“I see.”
“Oh? Wait, don’t tell me you’re after Yuzu too, Minato?”
“What? And what do you mean, ‘too’?”
“Well, lately a bunch of guys have been asking me to introduce them to Yuzu. Though, when I tell her, she instantly rejects them.”
“Really.”
Huh. I always thought she wouldn’t be popular with guys, but I guess she actually received a lot of attention. Well, I could easily imagine her hating the idea of being set up with anyone. When she said she didn’t want a boyfriend, it hadn’t been some bluff after all.
“Ah, good morning!”
As my thoughts drifted to Kurenai, a familiar but unusual-for-school voice snapped me back. I looked up to see a girl waving at me from the front gate.
“…Asou-san?”

Chapter 15:
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“What’s with that look? You look like you’ve just seen a ghost. Oh, are you with your girlfriend? Oopsie, did I interrupt something?”
Unlike how she was at work, her hair was down and she wore her school uniform. She looked brighter than usual, and I felt like her voice was a bit higher-pitched than normal.
“She’s not my girlfriend. Still, it’s the first time we’ve run into each other at school.”
“Right? I can’t believe you really go to our school, Aoyama-kun.”
“That’s my line. So, did something happen again?”
I asked in exasperation, and Yumekawa, who was standing next to me, leaned in and asked me.
“Hey, do you know her?”
“Oh, sorry. Uh, this is my senpai from my part-time job.”
“I’m Asou. Aoyama-kun always helps me out so much.”
“N-nice to meet you! I’m Arisu Yumekawa.”
The two of them bowed their heads and exchanged greetings. Then right after, Asou-san answered my question.
“Since then, nothing strange has happened. But today, just in case, I had my parents drop me off. I wish you’d stayed at my place so we could’ve gone to school together, you know.”
As she said that, Asou-san glanced quickly at Yumekawa.
“Wait, stayed at her place?”
“Well, anyway, thanks for yesterday. That’s all. See you at work.”
Cutting off Yumekawa, who looked like she wanted to say something, Asou-san walked off ahead.
“…Good riddance.”
“Hey, Minato, what was all that about?”
“I’ll just say this now: nothing happened. She was being stalked by her ex, so I just walked her home.”
“O-oh, wow, you surprised me. But Asou-san is really pretty, huh.”
“I don’t look at her like that. She’s just my senpai at work. Come on, let’s go.”
“O-okay.”
If I let her pry any more about Asou-san, it’d never end. Knowing her, she probably just wanted to tease me for leaving early yesterday.
“Well, I’m gonna hit the bathroom first.”
On the way to the classroom, I said that and parted ways with Yumekawa. I headed for the restroom, sat down on the toilet seat, and let out a long sigh.
“Haah… I’m exhausted.”
Yet again, unexpected plans had popped up. And there was no guarantee that the situation would be unfolding in my favor, like when she told Kurenai about our plan. I had to deal with it before Kurenai showed up at my place.
