Chapter 12: The Losing Jail Guard Goes Full Hobby Mode
I won the duel against Laecia.
For a low-level demon like me, this was a huge achievement.
Sure, relying entirely on weapons and tools wasn’t exactly respected among demons, but a win is still a win.
The loser, though? They weren’t so lucky.
The fans who had been cheering for Laecia immediately turned their backs on her.
Honestly, I was annoyed at Laecia for wasting food, but… watching the demons in the audience mock her so easily left a bad taste in my mouth.
And Lucifelle wasn’t any different.
Now, Laecia and I were standing before Lucifelle in the grand hall where she usually faced off against heroines.
“I can’t believe you actually lost.”
“I-I’m so sorry, Your Highness!!”
Laecia was on the floor, bowing deeply.
Lucifelle didn’t seem to care. She was just crunching away on potato chips.
In the world of demons, one loss could cost you everything.
Laecia had lost to me and, with that, lost her fans and Lucifelle’s attention.
Lucifelle looked at me and smiled.
“But still, that was amazing!! As expected of Lugus!! You defeated Laecia, so I’ll make you my aide!!”
“Y-Your Highness!?”
“What’s the problem, Laecia? In the Demon Lord’s army, the stronger one becomes the officer. That’s how it works.”
“I-I only wanted to serve you…”
“Don’t act like you’re doing me a favor. When did I ever ask you to do that?”
“Ugh… How did things end up like this…?”
Lucifelle spoke so casually.
Laecia shot me a glare, tears welling up in her eyes.
I actually started feeling bad for her.
“Yeah, I’m not gonna be an officer, thanks.”
“…What?”
“…Huh?”
I turned down Lucifelle’s offer with a smile.
Lucifelle blinked in surprise.
Laecia looked just as confused, completely stunned by what I’d said.
“W-Why not?! You beat Laecia, so you earned this right!!”
“Nah, way too much responsibility. Besides, officers go to the front lines, right? No way. I’d definitely die. Also, Demon Lord…”
“W-What is it?”
“Remember what I told you before? If you lose, you won’t have anyone left on your side.”
“…And what about it?”
…She still didn’t get it, huh?
“Lady Laecia’s situation right now could be your situation in the future, you know?”
“Hmm…”
“If you don’t like being treated a certain way, you shouldn’t do that to others. Instead, think about how you would want to be treated and do that.”
“Ugh… hmm…”
Lucifelle furrowed her brows.
Then she looked at Laecia, who was still crying, and seemed to realize something.
“…Yeah, losing all your allies does sound painful.”
“Y-Your Higness?”
“Well, fine. Even if I didn’t ask for your help, it’s true that you acted for my sake. I’ll let you stay on as my aide, Laecia.”
As soon as she heard those words, Laecia’s face lit up, all traces of her tears gone.
Lucifelle, meanwhile, still looked troubled.
“But this is tricky… Letting Laecia keep her position after losing doesn’t set a good example. Oh, I know! How about we make Lugus a high-ranking demon—”
“I’m gonna pass on that too.”
“Why not!?”
“If a low-level demon like me suddenly became a high-ranking demon, I’d become a prime target for every middle and low-level demon looking to climb the ranks.”
“Hmm… but it still doesn’t solve the problem… Oh! I’ve got it!! What if we make Laecia your slave?”
“…What?”
“W-Wait, Your Highness…?!”
Lucifelle’s ridiculous suggestion left both Laecia and me completely confused.
“W-Wait, you want to make Lady Laecia my slave?”
“Yep. When Mother was still the Demon Lord, she used to defeat challengers in duels and keep them as slaves.”
Lady Marisela?
I mean, yeah, she’s got a sly side, but she always seemed so gentle and kind…
I guess those stories about her being a badass back in the day were true.
But still, the idea of having a slave felt weird.
I really wanted to say no, but I couldn’t come up with any better compromise.
In the end, Laecia became my slave.
“Muhuhu, with Laecia helping you hunt, Lugus, you’ll be more efficient! And that means I get to eat even more of your cooking. I’m a genius! What a perfect plan!!”
“So it’s all about your stomach, huh?”
Well, whatever.
All I wanted was for Laecia to promise not to waste food anymore, so this wasn’t really a problem for me.
But still… now that she’s my slave, I might as well give her some orders.
Kekeke.
“W-What is this outfit!?”
“Huh? It’s just a maid costume.”
I made Laecia wear a maid outfit.
It was a slightly revealing maid outfit with a short skirt.
But hey, her usual outfit was just a bunch of straps anyway.
This one actually had more fabric, so I figured she wouldn’t be that embarrassed.
Turns out, I was wrong…
“Ugh… T-This is so humiliating… For a high-ranking officer of the Demon Lord’s army like me to be dressed like this…”
Laecia fidgeted, clearly bothered by how short the skirt was.
I had to admit, for a character from a gentleman’s game, her embarrassed expression was kind of… hot.
“…”
“W-What are you staring at!?”
“Uh, I just think it looks good on you.”
At first, I thought she was just an annoying twin-tails brat who wasted food, but seeing her all shy like this… was actually pretty cute.
Huh? Why did I make her wear a maid outfit?
…Don’t make me say it out loud. It’s embarrassing.
There’s only one reason.
It’s just my hobby. Come on, who doesn’t love a slave maid?
