Chapter 10: The Losing Jail Guard Picks a Fight
“It’s done, Lugus-suss.”
“Whoa, that’s amazing!!”
“Fufu, it’s only possible because of your idea.”
Elette still got my name wrong, but she really did finish my request in just one day.
What she built was a big box with double doors in the front. When you opened it, cold air flowed out.
Yep, it was a refrigerator.
Lucifelle had eaten all the Karaage, so there was no need to store it. But in the future, if I made something and couldn’t finish it, this would be perfect.
With this, food that would usually spoil in a day could last for a whole week.
“Miss Elette, you’re a lifesaver.”
“No big deal. I’m technically just crashing here, so think of it as paying a little rent.”
“…Lady Elette, you are technically a prisoner… Never mind.”
Katiana, in the neighboring cell, seemed like she wanted to say something. But hey, details, details.
After that, things stayed pretty peaceful for a while.
Well, the Demon Lord’s army was still in a brutal war with humanity, and the castle got attacked now and then, so maybe it wasn’t that peaceful…
I spent my days hunting monsters with the slingshot, cooking up food, and making sweets for Lucifelle when I felt like it.
It was a simple routine.
Until one day…
“Fight me in a duel, you lowly demon!”
It was way too sudden.
I was just cooking up some food from my latest hunt and giving it to Katiana and Elette like always.
And then, out of nowhere, this beautiful girl stormed into the dungeon.
She had long, reddish-gold hair tied into twin-tails and fierce blue eyes that gave her a tough look.
She looked like she was in her late teens.
Compared to Lucifelle, her chest was modest, but the shape was… perfect. The kind of beauty you’d call “delicately shaped.”
Her outfit? Thin, barely-there fabric. Actually, calling it fabric was generous —it was basically a collection of straps.
But hey, Prison Heroine is a game designed for gentlemen, so details like this shouldn’t be a surprise. Still, that outfit was wild.
I knew who this girl was.
She appeared in the game, and honestly, no demon didn’t know her.
“Uh, you’re General Laecia, the ‘Wrath’ of the Demon Lord’s army, right?”
“Fufufu! As expected of me —no need for introductions!”
Yes, this girl was one of the top generals in the Demon Lord’s army.
A powerhouse, ranking near the top, and technically one of Lucifelle’s aides.
But instead of hanging around Lucifelle, she was always on the front lines, fighting.
True to her title of “Wrath,” she was always irritated about something. And she was scary.
“So, Lady Laecia, why are you challenging me to a duel?”
Duels were pretty common among demons.
Whenever there was a dispute, they’d settle it by fighting to the death in public. The winner got to call the shots.
And yeah, since it was a fight to the death, dying wasn’t exactly rare.
But for Laecia, one of the strongest generals in the Demon Lord’s army, to challenge me, a low-level demon? That didn’t make any sense.
Honestly, I did not want to fight her. No chance I’d win.
Laecia glared at me, clearly irritated.
“Don’t play dumb! Do you think I haven’t noticed you buzzing around Her Highness Lucifelle like a filthy fly on rotting meat!?”
“…Based on that logic, you’re calling the Demon Lord rotting meat.”
“I don’t care for your nonsense!!”
“Ehh?”
Apparently, Laecia didn’t like how close I was getting to Lucifelle.
Great. Now what?
“I respectfully decline.”
“Fufufu, good answer! Now prepare to— wait, what?”
“I said, no thanks.”
Why did she even think I’d say yes?
“You’re running away!?”
“Call it what you want, but I’m not dueling you.”
“Don’t you have any pride as a demon!?”
“Yeah, threw that away ages ago. So, please, just go home.”
I pointed to the stairs leading back up.
Laecia’s shoulders trembled with rage as she shot me a death glare.
Scary.
“You think you can make a fool of me and get away with it!?”
“Fool, poop, whatever –doesn’t matter.”
“P-Poop!? How vulgar!!”
“Yeah, I’m fine with that. If you have time to waste on a vulgar low-level demon like me, maybe spend it on something more productive. Anyway, the exit’s that way.”
“Y-You—!”
Uh-oh. Guess I pushed too far.
Laecia clenched her fist and was about to punch me when—
“Lugus, what’s all this noise? Hm? Oh, it’s Laecia.”
“Y-Your Highness Lucifelle!?”
“Oh, hey, Demon Lord. You’re here again?”
“Don’t look so annoyed! So, what are you making today?”
Lucifelle must’ve come down here to snag some more food.
Perfect timing.
“Y-Your Highnes!!”
“What is it, Laecia? Do you want some of Lugus’s cooking too?”
“Absolutely not!! Please, you mustn’t eat that stuff!!”
“Why not?”
“Why not!? Because eating things like that will make you weak!!”
Laecia practically begged Lucifelle to stop.
But Lucifelle just shrugged and laughed off her concerns.
“Seems like you don’t understand something, Laecia.”
“W-What are you talking about?”
“Good food keeps your body healthy. And being healthy is the first step to getting stronger. Lugus told me that. Eating a balanced diet is important.”
Lucifelle puffed out her chest, looking smug.
Yeah, that was something I told her once when she was being picky about food. She’s really proud of that knowledge now…
But Laecia still wasn’t convinced. Instead, she turned her frustration on Lucifelle.
“No! You absolutely must not eat this stuff!”
“Wha—!? What are you doing!?”
Laecia knocked over the plate I had just handed to Lucifelle.
As the food fell toward the ground, Lucifelle dove forward and caught it in her mouth just in time.
“Mm! It’s delicious, as always! Wait, that’s not the point!! Laecia, if you waste food, Lugus is going to lose it!!”
“Your Highness? Are you seriously worried about making that low-level demon mad? You’re the Demon Lord, you shouldn’t—”
“Hey, you. Twintail brat.”
“…Eh?”
There it was again.
Why do demons, like Lucifelle and now Laecia, have zero respect for food?
“So, you want a duel? Fine. I accept. I’m not letting you off for this.”
“W-What? Why are you suddenly ready to fight!?”
“What’s wrong? You scared? Is the ‘Great’ Demon Army Officer afraid of a low-level demon like me?”
“W-What did you say!? F-Fine!! I’ll crush you into the ground!!”
“Why are these two suddenly fighting?”
I was furious, Laecia was fuming, and Lucifelle stood there, confused by the chaos.
And so, a few days later…
I was set to duel Laecia, one of the Demon Army’s top officers.
