Chapter 08: The Losing Jail Guard Gets a Crazy High
A new heroine, Elette, was now in the Demon Lord’s dungeon.
She’s a pretty unusual heroine.
In the game, even when captured and threatened by goblins or orcs, she never so much as flinched.
In fact, she’s savagely indifferent.
This was proven just recently, when one of the castle’s soldiers tried to mess with her in the dungeon.
“Guhehe. Hey, jail guard!! Open this cell door!!”
“Uh, no, I can’t—”
“Don’t talk back to me!! You’re just a lowly demon!!”
“Guh!”
The goblin soldier punched me and snatched the key out of my hand.
Goblins might seem weak, but this one was definitely stronger than me.
In the world of demons, strength is everything. Birth or race doesn’t matter.
It’s fair… and unfair at the same time.
“Are you okay, Lugus?”
“S-Senior, stop that soldier!”
“…I can’t. He’s one of the strongest mid-level demons.”
“Even though he’s a goblin?”
“Even though he’s a goblin.”
I guess even among mid-level demons, there’s a wide range of strength.
Looks like I’d have to bribe this guy like I did with my senior before.
But I had nothing on me.
If this keeps up, Elette —the heroine— is going to suffer.
Or so I thought…
The goblin soldier dropped his pants and revealed his “son” to Elette. She glanced at it, utterly uninterested, and said:
“What’s with that pathetic excuse for a manhood?”
“W-What did you just say?!”
I had no idea this was happening.
In the game, Elette didn’t put up much of a fight —she was just supposed to silently endure whatever happened to her.
But for some reason, here she was, roasting the goblin soldier’s junior.
“Short, thin, and weak. There’s nothing biologically appealing about it. Come back when you’ve got something worth bragging about.”
The goblin soldier, tears streaming down his face, walked away in shame.
I mean, I was glad nothing happened, but… wow.
As a fellow guy, that was brutal to hear.
Not that I felt sorry for him or anything.
“Oh? What’s with that look, Lugus-suss? You’re staring at me like you’ve seen a monster.”
“That was cold.”
“Well, that goblin hit you, didn’t he? I wouldn’t have felt satisfied unless I said something.”
Wait… was she angry on my behalf?
Doki. No, no. Bad heart. Don’t go fluttering now.
“By the way, Lugus-suss, does it still hurt where he hit you?”
“Nah, I’m fine…”
“Still, just in case, use this potion I made. It should heal you right away.”
“Oh, uh… thanks.”
I took the potion from Elette, my brain momentarily short-circuiting.
“Wait, when did you even make this? Didn’t we check your belongings before putting you in the cell?”
“For a genius like me, sneaking out at night to gather materials in the Demon Lord’s castle is child’s play.”
“Wait, WHAT!? What are you doing!?”
This was shocking news.
As I tried to process it, Katiana, who’d been sleeping in the cell next to us, woke up.
“Lugus, you’re being noisy. What’s going on?”
“Oh, Miss Katiana. So, here’s the thing…”
“‘Here’s the thing’? Explain it properly.”
“Uh… okay.”
I explained everything that had just happened.
“I-I see. Lady Elette caused a lot of trouble for the alliance too… You should probably just give up.”
“Seriously…?”
“You two are so mean. I’m just following my curiosity.”
Yeah, that’s the problem.
But, well, she did make this potion out of kindness.
Might as well give it a try.
I opened the bottle and downed it in one gulp.
“…Huh. This tastes like an energy drink.”
It tasted exactly like a flat, room-temperature energy drink.
I always thought potions were supposed to taste nasty, but this was surprisingly weird.
“Hm… what’s happening? My thoughts are getting clearer…?”
“That’s my special potion. One bottle instantly heals your injuries and lets you go for hours without food, water, or sleep.”
“Lady Elette, is that even safe?!”
“Relax. I tested it on myself, and I didn’t die, so it’s fine.”
“That does not sound fine!!”
Why do I suddenly feel the urge to move? My body feels supercharged.
Oh, so this is…
“I’m getting crazy high!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!”
“!? Wait, Lugus!! Where are you going?!”
“Just a little hunting trip!! I’m gonna catch some delicious meat!! EHEHEHEHEHEHE!!!!”
“Hey!! You’re clearly not okay!!”
Katiana tried to stop me, but there was no way she could while stuck in her cell.
I swapped shifts with my senior and bolted toward the forest near the Demon Lord’s castle to hunt some monsters.
No worries —I’ve got my slingshot.
Time to bag some big game and whip up a tasty meal!
