Alvin’s smile grew smaller, but it was clear he was genuinely pleased. Sophia, who was listening nearby, tilted her head slightly and then whispered to Layla.

“Layla, do you want to stand by Alvin’s side?”

“Yes, because Alvin has his sister. To stand equal to Cecil-san, this is where I must be.”

Why was she so insistent on this position? Sophia had a vague understanding but felt it was likely deeper than she knew. After all, Sophia didn’t know what had transpired between them.

“You haven’t complained about how troublesome this is. You’ve become quite diligent lately.”

“I’m not so fallen that I’d abandon people in need.”

“But?”

“I slack off when I can.”

“If you’re going to be cool, stay cool till the end, idiot.”

But, that was probably not a bad thing. Feeling both envious and affectionate, Sophia looked warmly at the two laughing together.
