I was exposed as the strongest magician to my sister, who has severe brother complex. I can no longer hide my abilities at school! - Chapter 0 : Prologue
Chapter 0 : Prologue
…Let’s talk about a certain young boy.
His name is Alvin Astarea.
The heir to the Astarea Ducal House, one of the prestigious aristocratic families in the kingdom, with a history dating back five hundred years to the birth of the kingdom.
Those who are part of the ducal families are exceptional in their abilities.
The current heads of the Astarea ducal family serves as the captain of the Kingdom’s Royal Knights, and the lady was the former vice-captain of the Magic Knight Corps.
Moreover, Alvin’s elder sister, who is two years older than him, is the top student at the academy and possesses formidable sword skills and is referred as the future captain of the Kingdom’s Royal Knights at a young age.
Despite being surrounded by such a family, Alvin, in particular, didn’t possess any remarkable abilities.
Rather, he could be described as more infamous when compared to his family.
Indulgent, carefree, selfish, and incompetent.
He would stay at home day and night, only showing his presence when he felt like it.
In stark contrast to his talented sister, complaints about him being inferior were constantly heard from those around him.
However, surprisingly, he didn’t seem to mind. Normally, one would feel some inferiority complex when compared to their talented family members, but Alvin proudly held his ground.
This, in turn, fueled the negative opinions around him and he was called — “The disgrace of the Astarea Ducal Family”.
However, regarding the same disgrace of the ducal house…..
“Hmm… There are quite a few bandits in this place.”
At the same time, loud noises echoed in the cave.
In the dimly lit space, his short, neatly cut white hair shimmered faintly in the torchlight, and several shadows prostrated themselves to the ground one after another.
“Who the hell is he!?”
“Our opponent is just a kid!”
“Why are we… Gah!?”
The voices of the bandits could be heartlessly heard in the narrow space.
Nevertheless, even hearing those voices… Alvin waved his hand with a cool look on his face.
‘Even though this is the ducal territory, how bold of them to set up their hideout here. It’s like a housewife trying to earnestly secure a lottery ticket first thing in the morning.’
And that in itself was really troublesome.
Alvin leaned against the wall and let out a small sigh.
Then, a wave of ice centered around the wall attacked the bandits. The wave was undoubtedly faster than what could be perceived by the human eye and anything that came into contact with it was transformed into sculptures made of ice.
“What the hell are you!?”
“Alvin Astarea… Does that name ring a bell to any of you? Well, you should know! After all, I’m a super famous handsome boy! If I make a little move, it’ll be in the newspapers—”
“That disgrace of the ducal house!?”
“Yeah… that’s me, the infamous Alvin.”
He often thought about how famous he was in a negative way.
Alvin shedded tears in front of the bandits.
“That’s a lie! The disgrace of the ducal house is just a useless incompetent brat!”
“Well, let’s stop the chit-chat. Because of guys like you, the commoners are scared, you know?”
The bandit shouted as if unable to believe what he was seeing.
Observing that man, Alvin sighed lightly.
Then, a wave of ice attacked the bandits again from the ground, swallowing the man who had managed to avoid it the first time.
“Besides, I don’t really want to stand in the lime light. Just because I don’t want to stand out doesn’t mean I’m incompetent… Well, whatever. I like it this way, and I want this to continue for a while.”
In reality, Alvin was not incompetent.
On the contrary, even from an objective perspective, Alvin was considered a ‘genius.’
A master of rare ice magic throughout the generations, skilled in both magic and physical combat, he was an all-around outstanding individual.
He was so exceptional that the evaluations around him were perplexing.
However…..
“Well, living a laid-back life is more enjoyable. I know it’s tough, seeing my sister and others. I have no interest in labeling myself a ‘company slave’ in my career options.”
Alvin, who prioritized sleeping, playing, and eating, didn’t find honor or fame necessary.
That’s why the current evaluation around him was appreciated.
This way, he wouldn’t be subjected to the fate of being used in various ways.
Therefore, he must keep his true abilities hidden.
“Well… I don’t think it’ll be revealed.”
His parents were always away from the ducal territory due to official duties.
Although they were engaged in charity work, it usually involved killing, so there was no problem.
His sister was a student attending the academy, so she wasn’t in the ducal territory either during the day.
“And especially my sister… It’s dangerous. If she finds out that her little brother has this kind of ability, she will definitely spread the word of it all around. She’s like a walking rumor mill, so it must not be revealed for the sake of my elegant, laid-back life!”
At that moment… From behind, the sound of someone’s footsteps could be heard.
Upon hearing it, Alvin’s reaction was quick. Assuming that the source of this sound was one of the surviving members of the bandit group — without turning around, he threw ice daggers which he created in both hands. Then, closing the distance, he swung his arm to break the enemy’s weapon—
“Woah… is that you, Al-kun?”
It was the moment the sword swept through.
Finally, in Alvin’s field of vision, the face of the enemy appeared.
Well, should he really call her an enemy? That face was terribly familiar, or rather, it was exactly like his sister’s.
Her facial features were completely different from Alvin.
Glossy golden hair and emerald eyes. An exquisite face with a clean and beautiful look, even through the armor it showcased outstanding body proportions.
She was not an unfamiliar person… She was without a doubt, his sister — Cecil Astarea.
Upon recognizing her, cold sweat appeared on Alvin’s forehead.
“He-Hello, nee-san…”
The moment he recognized her, he knew that he had to deceive her no matter what.
Alvin’s brain started working at full speed. He didn’t know why she was here, but there was only the fear of being exposed for witnessing the scene of the bandit’s subjugation that he decided to carry out on his own in secret!
“Today is a fine day—”
“I–I have to inform Father right away!”
“Listen to what people have to say until the end, nee-san!”
Alvin managed to grab Cecil’s arm just before she turned away in a panic.
“Wh-why is Al-kun defeating the bandits?! I always knew that you were capable, but how can you say this without being surprised!?”
“N-no… this has already happened since I arrived here—”
“And, even though I was not off guard, my sword got knocked away by you!”
Alvin tried his best to find a good excuse, but his efforts were futile. There’s no time to cry now.
“Why is nee-san here? Isn’t it time for you to be at the academy?”
“I’m part of the knights of the academy. That’s my job.”
“I see… you’re a hard working sister…!”
Alvin thought that diligence was now a curse.
“But still, Al-kun, you’re amazing! I was a bit worried since you always played around, but big sister always believed in you!”
Saying that, Cecil hugged Alvin forcefully.
Although Alvin was accustomed to being hugged, the armor, which boasted “sturdy, reassuring, safe,” was so hard that his cheek hurt, and tears welled up normally.
“Hey, nee-san…? I-It hurts a bit, so please let go…”
“Al-kun has such incredible strength! Oh, by the way… why didn’t you tell anyone about it?”
“W-well…”
“If you’re this strong, everyone will understand immediately—”
I just want to live a lazy life. Such a statement couldn’t be uttered at all costs.
“Now he can marry his sister.”
I really can’t say it, even if my mouth is torn open.
“I-I can’t stay like this! I have to go brag to everyone right away!”
“Wait! Nee-san?!”
Just as Alvin thought she suddenly hugged him, Cecil swiftly headed outside the cave in an instant.
The speed was truly like a gust of wind.
Even the cute brother’s restraint was left behind.
“Nee-san…..!!”
Alvin, who was left behind, kneeled like a tragic heroine and tried reaching out to Cecil who was now out of his reach.
And then…
“What in the world did I do…!”
With a face filled with despair, Alvin pounded his fist on the ground.
What will happen from now on?
The answer will be revealed in the next chapter.
