I was dumped by my childhood friend, so I went to a shrine to ask God to give me a girlfriend. Then, God gave me a special curse of being liked by a beautiful Yandere girl! - Chapter 43 : Kotoko and Sunflowers
Chapter 43 : Kotoko and Sunflowers
On that day, I had arranged to meet Kotoko at the station to go to the sunflower field in the neighboring town.
“It’s hot again today…”
I wiped the sweat streaming down from my forehead with my hand. According to the weather forecast, the temperature was expected to reach 34 degrees today. I needed to be careful to prevent Kotoko from getting heatstroke. Especially since we would be spending a long time outdoors today, I planned to take breaks regularly.
“Takemitsu-kun~♡ I’m here!”
It seemed Kotoko had arrived as I was thinking about these things. She was wearing the white dress she had worn on our first date, and on top of that, she had a straw hat for sun protection.
Kotoko was always beautiful, but in this outfit, she looked exceptionally stunning to me. It was as if she were a goddess of beauty.
Summer × White dress × Straw hat × Beautiful girl… This combination was truly excellent in my opinion. It was a classic, flawlessly appealing, and had the power to move and stir the hearts of those who saw it.
If only I had artistic talent, I could immortalize her in a painting… It’s regrettable that I lack artistic skills. You might think using a smartphone camera would be enough, but personally, I find photos lacking a certain charm.
“What’s wrong, Takemitsu-kun?”
“Oh, it’s nothing. The dress looks really good on you. Shall we go then?”
“Yes!”
We walked arm in arm into the station.
According to the map app, the sunflower field was about 10 minutes from the station in the neighboring town. To prevent heatstroke, I bought sports drinks for both Kotoko and me from the vending machine at the station platform.
“Shall we drink it mouth to mouth again?”
Kotoko playfully said that with a mischievous smile. Recalling yesterday’s incident in the restroom, my face heated up, but I declined since we were in public today.
Before leaving the station, I handed her a foldable parasol that I had stowed in my bag.
“A parasol?”
“Yeah, to prevent you from getting heatstroke.”
“Thank you! Takemitsu-kun is really kind. But if only I’m under the parasol, you’ll be hot, too. How about we share it together?”
She said that and opened the parasol, inviting me inside. Since the umbrella was a bit small, my shoulders were exposed, but I brought it with the intention of protecting Kotoko from the sun, so it couldn’t be helped.
…I wonder if this is the first time we’ve shared an umbrella. There haven’t been many rainy days this year, so I haven’t had the chance to use an umbrella much. Sharing an umbrella on a sunny day feels strangely mysterious.
While walking along the rural road under the shared umbrella, we soon saw the sunflower field after about 10 minutes. The entrance fee was surprisingly free, which was kind to our student budgets.
“Wow, it’s amazing!”
“Yeah, it is.”
As we entered the sunflower field, all we could see were the fully bloomed large sunflowers. Well, it was obvious to see sunflowers in a sunflower field, but the sight was overwhelming when actually witnessed. According to the pamphlet, there were approximately 200,000 sunflowers.
I had never seen such splendid sunflowers before. Although I had kept a diary on sunflower observation during a summer vacation in elementary school, they didn’t grow as impressively. They all stood dignified, facing the direction of the sun.
Kotoko and I walked slowly through the paths between the fields, admiring the sunflowers. In TV dramas, there are scenes where couples run through sunflower fields and play tag, but here, that was definitely not allowed as it could damage the flowers.
So, we were only permitted to gaze at the sunflowers from the path and take photos.
Looking around, probably due to the recent TV coverage, we could see other tourists even in this rural town. Despite being in a countryside town, there were quite a few families, most likely enjoying their summer vacation. Fathers, mothers, and their daughters walked hand in hand, a heartwarming scene.
…I wondered if Kotoko and I would become like that in the future. Getting married… having children… Going out together… It didn’t sound bad at all.
“It’s really hot, though.”
“Shall we take a break soon?”
After about 20 minutes of walking, Kotoko suggested taking a break. At that moment, we spotted a café-like place by the roadside that had been featured on TV, so I proposed a break to her.
“I agree! Let’s have soft serve ice cream!”
“Okay, let’s take a break then.”
Entering the café, we were welcomed by the refreshing coolness of the air conditioner. It felt pleasant as the chilly breeze stole away the heat accumulated in our bodies from being outside.
We ordered the soft serve ice cream that had been featured on TV. Kotoko had a regular one, while I opted for the sunflower seed extract-infused sunflower soft serve.
Taking a bite of the soft serve the server brought, I tasted a faintly sweet and milky flavor. Was this the taste of sunflower seed extract? I had never eaten sunflowers before, so I couldn’t be sure. It wasn’t unpleasant, but whether it was delicious or not… I couldn’t quite decide.
Kotoko was watching me with a smile.
“How is it? The taste of the sunflower soft serve?”
“Yeah, honestly, I’m not sure. I’ve never eaten them before.”
“I’d like to try it too… Can I have a bite~♡ Aah~♡”
I offered soft serve ice cream to Kotoko, her mouth open like a bird waiting for food. Thinking back, this thing with Kotoko had become quite familiar. In the beginning of our relationship, I was shy and embarrassed, but now, I did it without hesitation, whether someone was watching or not. Perhaps this was the result of Kotoko’s training.
“Hmm… It does have a subtle taste,” she said, making a slightly displeased face.
She seemed to think the same as me.
“As a return gift, here you go, Takemitsu-kun~♡”
“Ahm.”
I responded to her just as casually. As I took the soft serve ice cream she offered into my mouth, the rich taste of milk spread. Regular soft serve ice cream might be tastier.
After taking a break at the cafe and enjoying the cool air for a while, we decided to return to the sunflower field. However, Kotoko discovered a souvenir shop attached to the cafe. Since we were already there, we decided to check out the souvenir shop before leaving.
In the sunflower-themed souvenir shop, various souvenirs related to sunflowers were displayed.
While looking at souvenirs, Kotoko suddenly said she needed to use the restroom, so we temporarily separated. I was a bit anxious that she might be approached by someone else while alone, but considering there were only female staff in the shop besides us, I judged that she would be safe from any advances.
While waiting for her return in front of the restroom, a sign for a certain product caught my eye.
“Hmm-hmm… This could be perfect for a present to Kotoko.” I discreetly purchased it while she was in the restroom.
“Today was fun, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah.”
It was evening, and after leisurely enjoying the sunflower field, we took the train back to our town. The only thing left was to escort Kotoko home. I could give her the secretly bought present before she entered her house.
“Okay, Takemitsu-kun, see you tomorrow. Thanks for today!”
“Ah, Kotoko, wait a moment.”
I stopped Kotoko, who was about to enter her house. Then, I presented her with the present I had hidden in my bag from the souvenir shop.
“This… It’s a gift from me.”
“Thank you! What is it? Uh… a sunflower figurine?”
The present I bought for Kotoko was indeed a sunflower artificial flower ornament. I chose artificial flowers because real ones would wither quickly. I wanted her to keep it by her side at all times.
“Do you know the language of sunflowers, Kotoko?”
“The language of sunflowers?”
“I only look at you.”
[TL/N : This line is actually written in English in the raws]
“Ugh… If you do something like this… I’ll love you even more! I’ll cherish it forever~♡”
Kotoko hugged the present I gave her affectionately. It was a relief. It seemed like she really liked the present I gave her.
….Maybe it was a bit cheesy of a present. But it’s okay, right? Because my feelings for my girlfriend are just like the language of sunflowers.
