Chapter 29: Scum File 2 – Ryusei Iketsuki (The True Scum)
Around the time when Kenichi had been hospitalized—scum’s perspective
Up until now, I was the one dishing out the torment, but after that incident, everything turned upside down. At school, the mutt jerk beats me up, and when I go home, my parents care more about not offending that jerk than about me. It’s sickening.
As much as I hate to admit it, the guy’s fighting skills are real, and apparently, he holds more power in society than even my old man. It’s unbearable to think that my parents and I have to bow our heads to a loser like him.
But every day at school, it’s the same thing—getting hit by him and then begging for forgiveness on my knees. Both my body and pride are completely shattered.
“D-Dad… I’ve got a headache… I want to stay home from school today…”
Still in my pajamas, I held my head and tried to put on a pained expression as I came down to the kitchen.
“I won’t allow it. If you’re feeling unwell, skip breakfast and change into your uniform immediately.”
My father barely glanced up from his newspaper before losing interest and returning his focus to it.
“W-Wait a minute! I’m telling you I’m not feeling well! You’re a doctor, right? Isn’t resting the best cure when someone’s not feeling well!?”
Without even looking at me, my father replied,
“Hmm, as you said, I am a doctor. And as a doctor, I’m telling you there’s nothing wrong, so go to school. Is there a problem with that?”
(Damn! I just dug my own grave… Oh well, if I head to school now, I’ll definitely be late anyway. Might as well pretend to go and skip out halfway to have some fun.)
I took as much time as possible changing into my uniform, then sluggishly headed towards the front door.
“Alright, I’m heading ou—”
“Wait a minute.”
My father, already dressed in his suit and ready to leave, called out to me at the door.
“Oh, Dad, I’m just goi—”
“You’re already late. I’ll drive you to school.”
“…Huh?”
“N-No, really, it’s fine… I can just run if—”
“You said you weren’t feeling well, didn’t you? No need to push yourself.”
(Damn it! Damn it! This is the worst! I just keep digging myself deeper! Now I can’t even skip halfway! Damn it!)
In the end, I got into the car, feeling like a prisoner being transported to jail. As I tried to figure out how to avoid that mutt bastard at school, my father spoke again without even looking at me as I prepared to get out of the car.
Ryusei, do your duty and don’t be rude to Mr. Fudo!
“Ryusei! Make sure you show proper respect to Fudo-kun and do your duty!”
(Damn it! I really am like a prisoner…)
Ignoring him, I trudged heavily toward my classroom.
When I got to class, that mutt bastard wasn’t even there, and apparently, he’s going to be in the hospital for a while.
All that worrying was for nothing! Whether he’s around or not, that idiot manages to piss me off. The way the class treats me now is ridiculous. All those people who used to suck up to me don’t even come near anymore; instead, they’re whispering behind my back.
When I glare at them, they just awkwardly look away. Even my old followers don’t come close to me anymore.
They’re like stray dogs now. I guess I’m no different…
However, Himeno still greeted me quietly. Well, I’m trying to figure out a way to fix the situation right now, but for now, numbers are power. I’m sure the rest of the class doesn’t want that violent mutt around, ruining the atmosphere. No one even wants him here.
After school, I stayed behind and asked the others to help me get rid of that mutt from the school, but no one agreed. They’re all scared of the backlash if I fail. These spineless fence-sitters pissed me off, so I kicked the door and decided to head home.
Even on the way home, my irritation wouldn’t go away, and I’ve been pent-up for a while now. I needed to let off some steam, so I decided to call Himeno.
I opened the messaging app and tried to come up with the right words to get her to meet me. Just then, I got a message from one of my old followers, saying they want to help with getting rid of that mutt. Annoyed by how shallow they are, I figured I could use them as pawns. With that in mind, I came up with a good plan and called a certain acquaintance.
“Hello, it’s been a while, Ryuzaki-san.”
‘Oh, it’s you, Ryusei. Haven’t heard from you in a while…’
I was nervous making this call. The person on the other end of the line was Ryuzaki Benimaru, the leader of the semi-criminal gang Red Dragon that controls this area. His reputation is terrifying—rape, robbery, fights, theft, blackmail—there’s no crime he hasn’t been involved in.
“Well… I’m in a bit of trouble right now…”
I briefly explained what had been happening at school.
‘Heh, so there’s still some punk at your school who’s got the nerve to stand up to you, huh?’
“Y-Yeah, that’s right… He even said that not even Death God could scare him, and he’d take them all down!”
[Crash!] I heard the sound of something breaking on the other end of the phone.
‘Hey, Ryusei… I hope you’re not just talking out of your ass. You know who Samejima-san from Death God is, right?’
I knew about Death God, the biggest biker gang in the city. Red Dragon is just a subordinate group, and if someone in Red Dragon’s territory messed with Death God, Ryuzaki himself could be in danger.
‘You’re telling me this Fudo guy actually disrespected Samejima-san, right? You better not be lying, Ryusei!’
The die had been cast. There was no turning back now. I had to go all in.
“Of course! Have I ever done anything to betray you, Ryuzaki-san?”
Wiping the sweat off my forehead, I focused on making sure I didn’t slip up. I was determined to use these guys to crush that cocky mutt once and for all.
‘Well, considering our relationship, I’ll trust you this time.’
“Yes! Thank you very much!!”
I breathed a sigh of relief, grinning as everything started to fall into place just as I had planned.
‘By the way, did you find the lookouts I asked for?’
The lookouts are the ones who stand guard during thefts or assaults, making sure no one sees what’s going on.
“Yes, of course! I’ve got two people lined up. I’ll introduce them soon.”
I planned to use my former lackeys as pawns.
‘And, sorry to ask again, but can you chip in for our operation funds?’
“Of course, I’ll bring the money tomorrow night!”
(In the end, it’s always about money… Well, if it means getting rid of that mutt, it’s a small price to pay.)
‘Alright, see you at the usual spot at 9 p.m. tomorrow.’
“Understood!!” I ended the call.
“Hehehe, ahahaha, AHAHAHAHA! Perfect. Everything is going according to my plan. I’m going to sic those dumb muscleheads on that arrogant stray dog and crush him completely! And as for those backstabbing lackeys of mine, I’ll make sure they can’t escape either. Just wait for it!! Ahahaha!”
For the first time in a while, I felt great. I sent a message to Himeno, and her quick response made it clear just how much she was depending on me.
“Alright, Shizuku, let’s meet at the convenience store by the harbor tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. We’ve both been through a lot, so let’s have a calm date by the sea.”
‘Yeah! Ryusei, I love you. I’m really looking forward to it!!’
I pressed the red circle on the app to end the call with Himeno.
“Heh, just keep looking forward to it… SHIZUKU.”
