Chapter 28: Ice and Thunder

An existence that only existed in isekai fantasy novels or myths, an elf. And that very elf was standing right before me. 

“This guy is a human. He agreed to help us conquer this dungeon.”

But before I could finish speaking, a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, followed by the sound of the wind breaking.

Her eyes were full of killing intent. No. It was even worse than that. She was glaring at me like she was staring at the enemy who had killed her parents. 

“And why does a filthy human dare to step foot into this forest again? You detestable human…”

“Ummm… Like I said, Pixie Grandpa asked me to conquer this dungeon, so…”

“Your assistance is unnecessary.”

“Huh?”

The absurdly quick reply caused me to accidentally let out a confused voice. 

“I said, your assistance is unnecessary. Are you incapable of hearing me?”

“B-But… Elf-san, you’re a rear guard fighter, right?”

“That is correct, yes, but I’m still better than someone as feeble as you.”

Feeble…? This woman… Just because she’s good looking, she thinks she can talk down to me?

“Is that so? I’d say I’m better than a conniving race like elves who’s busy lazing around in the forest all day long.”

She said as she extended her right hand toward me.

With that, sharp,  icicle-like shards of ice began flying toward me.

I muttered and the incoming ice shards were blasted away with my 〈Shock Blast〉.

“How about that? That was my skill, 〈Shock Blast〉.”

“Oh. I see… 〈Ice Arrow〉.”

She responded flatly as she readied her bow to fire her arrow.

Ice Arrow… If I remember correctly, it’s a pretty basic skill among magic type skills. So this is the best disciple of that old man? Seriously?

Just like before, I extended my hand again and—

“It’s so fast?!”

Even though it was a beginner level skill, but its speed was abnormally fast. At this rate, ordinary chanting speed wouldn’t be able to keep up with the speed of that arrow.

I used the shortened chanting method to somehow blow the ice arrow away.

Near enough to cast her magic directly at me.

Staggering to my feet, I turned around and fired another 〈Shock Blast〉 using shortened chanting.

“What?!”

She had been closing in to do another attack on me. This caused her to receive my  〈Shock Blast〉  head-on. She was sent flying far back with my skill. 

Alright. If I keep this up, she will soon—!

“Both of you, stop this instant!!!”

Together with an angry roar, vines suddenly sprouted out from somewhere, wrapping my legs tightly. 

No way… Is this that old man’s skill? But I didn’t hear any chanting from him!

“Gr-Grandpa Zero! I was just about to kill this human! Why are you stopping me?!”

“Senavia… No matter how much you resent humans, you mustn’t immediately kill any human on sight. Especially when this person hasn’t done anything wrong to you yet. Doing so makes you no different from the humans who killed your dearest friend!”

Upon hearing the old man’s words, her expression turned sour. She then disappeared into the forest without uttering another word.
