Chapter 3: It’s a Common Knowledge of Not Being Able to See the Protagonist’s Face
It took several minutes to run to the academy. It was a little far.
To enter the school building, I had to climb a final hill. It was tough on my body, still recovering from illness.
While climbing the hill, I heard the chime signaling the start of class.
My steps were heavy. Being late was inevitable.
Sweating and out of breath, I rushed into the classroom. With Kazuki’s help, I made my way to my seat.
“Sorry. I was late because I’m bad at bringing Shimizu-kun along.”
Her playful comment lightened the mood of the class.
Fortunately, my tardiness was excused. I was grateful.
I looked around. The ratio of girls was high. The boys made up about a third of the class. Just like in the game.
It felt like a world I shouldn’t know, but strangely, it seemed familiar. My instincts told me I knew this place. It was strange.
Among the students, there was one who caught my attention.
There was a student whose face was blurry and hard to see. It was as if a mosaic was covering it.
I should assume this is the protagonist. In games like this, the protagonist’s face is often not revealed. It’s common to have just text-based appearances.
Maybe the face is blurry because it wasn’t meant to be seen in the game. If I think of it as a game world, I can almost accept it.
Besides, the fact that I’m reincarnated is abnormal in itself. I wouldn’t be shaken by any further strange occurrences.
“Now, let’s start the morning HR,” the homeroom teacher said and began the session. She was a glasses-wearing female teacher. Cool and beautiful. This academy is said to be full of cute girls.
But, she might not compare to Kazuki. She sat one seat in front of me. When it came to Kazuki, even her back had an air of grace.
Even the way she rested her chin on her hand looked like it was from a painting. She had the beauty of something cut out from a famous painting.
“…And with that, we’ll end HR,” she said.
My mind was filled with thoughts of Kazuki, and I let my imagination run wild. In that time, the period passed by at the speed of light.
I felt deeply that time flies when you’re enjoying yourself.
It seems like we would stay in the same classroom for the next period, so there was no need to move. Everyone was doing as they pleased.
“You were lucky to get excused for being late.”
“It was because of Kazuki’s help.”
“Really? You’re saying such nice things, huh?”
Kazuki smiled, her cheeks softening. Her smile grabbed my heart tightly. My body became warm. I was filled with a bubbly feeling.
It was just a small act of kindness. It was too soon to let myself get carried away.
Even if it was too soon, the fact that I was captivated by Kazuki was undeniable.
“Don’t push yourself today. If you keep getting picked up like this, we’ll have to keep coming up with reasons for your tardiness.”
“I’ll try my best.”
When you start to like someone, your perception becomes distorted. I didn’t want to lose my objective point of view. It was a reminder to not get lost in my own feelings.
My heartbeat was quick, like a lovestruck girl. My body was being honest.
While still floating in that feeling, I observed the classroom.
Most of the boys were the quiet type. I couldn’t help but be curious about the protagonist (temporary name). Especially the “blurry” part of his face. He must have a proper name, but it was plain and hard to remember. From now on, I’ll call him “Protagonist-kun.”
There wasn’t anything special about the other boys for now.
Now, the girls.
The majority of the class were girls, and they were all cute. Beautiful. This was the miracle generation.
It wasn’t by accident that the class was filled with beautiful girls. It was intentional by the game’s creators.
It was a pleasure to look at them. I was thankful.
I didn’t want to think too much about their true nature. If the game was anything to go by, they were all mentally unstable.
Among these girls, there was a group known as the “Three Great Beauties.” Kazuki was, of course, one of them.
I recognized one of the other two.
Asai Yu. A small, cute type. She was the kind of person who strongly wished for the happiness of others. The opposite of Satsuki.
Satsuki was the type to desperately try to turn her own desires into reality. That was terrifying.
The last one was someone I didn’t remember at all. I didn’t even know her name. It seems not everything was just as in the game.
Maybe my irregular existence was interfering with the world in some way. It was just a hypothesis, but it didn’t seem entirely wrong.
Anyway, leaving that aside.
Let’s experience the classes in this world.
Starting with the first period, continuing to the fourth period.
It wasn’t much different from my past high school life. Despite the ridiculous name “Yami Yami Academy,” when it came to the classes, it was like any normal high school.
I listened to the lessons moderately. Kazuki’s little gestures distracted me, which made it a little tough.
How much was I paying attention? If someone were watching me, it would probably be creepy. It seems that feelings of affection really dull one’s senses.
Before I knew it, it was lunchtime.
I hadn’t had time to make lunch, so I decided to go to the cafeteria.
I got up and started walking toward the cafeteria. I had already checked the student handbook and familiarized myself with the school layout during the morning.
While walking down the hallway, I felt a presence behind me.
“Hey, Issei-kun.”
It was Kazuki.
“How about having lunch together in the cafeteria? You don’t have a lunchbox, right?”
“Of course. I can’t stand eating alone.”
Though I answered casually, I was internally pumping my fists repeatedly.
Having lunch together wasn’t a big deal, was it?
This wasn’t an excessive interaction with a girl. At least, that was what I told myself.
I followed Kazuki.
“By the way, Yu-chan and Kanna-chan will be coming too.”
“Kanna-chan?”
“Don’t you know? The three great beauties—Ruriko, Yu, and Kanna are the talk of the school.”
“Are you saying I’m going to be surrounded by the three great beauties?”
“Is that not okay?”
The conversation shifted suddenly.
It seemed a big event was on the way.
