Chapter 27: The Long-Awaited Pool Day
After quickly finishing breakfast, I headed to school.
Today is the swimming lesson, and you could see some boys excitedly chattering in the classroom.
As soon as I arrived, I was cornered for a bit about the Kurokawa incident. Once the topic faded, I knew I had won.
“Our oasis has arrived! Don’t you think this is a magnificent era, Issei?”
“You’re being dramatic, and it’s kind of gross.”
Tomokazu was in a high mood because of the swimming lesson.
His obvious excitement wasn’t missed by some of the girls, who shot cold glares at him—including the Three Great Beauties.
“Uh, I think you shouldn’t say things like that too loudly…”
Akira, looking flustered, tried to stop Tomokazu.
“I won’t back down. If you found water in a dry desert, could you keep quiet? That’s the issue here.”
The boys around us let out a collective whoa. I couldn’t help but laugh at the fact that Tomokazu wasn’t the only one agreeing with this nonsense.
In the end, we’re just kids.
Even if we didn’t say it aloud, some of us had similar thoughts.
Because, well, I’m part of that group too.
The Three Great Beauties are intimidating, but that doesn’t mean they’re not attractive. It’s the nature of boys our age.
To make things worse, Ruriko had said something like:
“I want you to look at me. I won’t let you look at anyone else, though.”
Trying not to pay attention to that was utterly impossible.
Let’s skip to the pool part. Nothing special happened before that.
The pool itself is nothing out of the ordinary. The only unique thing here is that we occasionally swim in the sea, but there’s nothing to note for the usual lessons.
After showering, we were split into boys and girls.
The boys entered first and got ready.
While the teacher was explaining, the girls entered.
“Whoa…”
Tomokazu’s focus was completely stolen by the girls.
“Is it really that big of a deal?”
“Of course it is! This is bonus time!”
“You’re going to get hated by the girls.”
“I don’t want to be hated, but even so, there’s a sight right in front of me that’s worth the risk!”
Naturally, Tomokazu got scolded. He was far too fired up.
Even though I was giving him a slightly judgmental look…
I couldn’t help but think about it a little too.
The girls headed toward the far side of the pool. The short length of the pool separated us. It wasn’t a short distance by any means.
But even from afar, the Three Great Beauties stood out. Their aura was on a completely different level.
When I glanced over, Ruriko met my eyes as if she had been waiting for it.
She winked and smiled mischievously.
…She’s so unfair. Damn it.
Even if I didn’t want to, my heart skipped a beat seeing Ruriko like that.
The swimming lesson wasn’t mixed-gender, of course.
They were only separated by a few lanes of water.
Even so, I couldn’t keep my calm during the lesson.
It was because of the Three Great Beauties’ antics.
Before I could even look, they were already glancing at me.
And when I did look, they would briefly pose to show off their figures or give a quick, sweet smile.
While I was the one being targeted, other boys mistook it as attention directed at them. They got overly excited, convinced they had received “the Great Beauties’ gazes and charms.” Lucky guys.
They kept switching turns with those actions, so their silhouettes stayed burned into my mind.
Kurokawa was small. Ruriko was average. Yu was ridiculously tall.
Each had a unique charm, and my brain was overwhelmed.
To put it bluntly, they were just wearing school swimsuits. And yet the impact was unreal.
It didn’t matter much today since the first lesson was easy, but if we ever had to compete for time, this would definitely be a big distraction.
Without knowing whether I was swimming or observing, the first swimming lesson came to an end.
“Glorious! The angels smiled for me, Issei!”
“Relax, that didn’t look like they were smiling for you, Tomokazu.”
“Hmm, I kind of think so too.”
We were in the boys’ locker room.
It was me, Tomokazu, and Akira changing.
“Hey, Akira. Have some hope.”
“You’re just being overly self-conscious. B-but…”
“But?”
“Regardless of who they were appealing to, I thought it was a feast for the eyes.”
“My comrade!”
Even quiet Akira was still a guy. If something catches his attention, he’s interested. If something makes him happy, he’s happy.
I wanted to ask the Three Great Beauties what they were up to. Did they plan this together, or was it a personal decision?
So, I asked them during lunch.
“You know what I said, right? I told you to look only at me. Though, in the end, since you were looking at the other two too, it’s a net-zero.”
When Ruriko asked if I was that interested in the other girls, I couldn’t find an excuse.
“Even if you’re beautiful, Ruriko, when something else looks attractive, can anyone really look away?”
Saying that only made things worse, and she didn’t let me go so easily.
Next was Yu.
“You were watching, right? With those pervy eyes. Unfortunately, you’re just a pervert.”
She told me straight.
“What’s unfortunate is that the others were watching just as eagerly. I’m not saying you shouldn’t look at them, but I want to rise to the top. To a level where jealousy or thoughts of others won’t even matter.”
Finally, there was Kurokawa.
“If the other two were showing off, I felt like I had to, too. I don’t have much of a figure, but I bet on your preferences, Issei. It was super embarrassing, but this was an experiment, so I had no choice.”
That answer was very much like Kurokawa.
During this time, the Three Great Beauties’ hair still had that damp, post-pool look. It felt like I was seeing something I shouldn’t—something rare and fleeting.
