I Want a Girlfriend who Won’t Betray Me - Chapter 5
Busy Second Semester
On Monday, I go to school as usual. When I enter the classroom, I greet Wakana.
“Good morning, Wakana.”
“Good morning, Kazuki.”
Again, I can hear whispers around us.
“Hmm…maybe what happened on Friday didn’t have much of an effect?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Why do you say so?”
“The way they’re talking seems distant.”
“Heh, you can tell that? Maybe you should become a psychotherapist in the future.”
“Where is that coming from?”
The three of them are whispering among themselves again. I hang my bag on the side of my desk and sit down to read a book.
When the bell rings, our homeroom teacher, Mikoshiba-sensei, enters the classroom.
“The school cultural festival is in two weeks. During Long Homeroom this afternoon, we will decide on the committee members and events, so please think about it in advance.”
There is a bit of a commotion when Mikoshiba-sensei leaves the classroom, but everyone quickly calms down as the first-period teacher enters the classroom.
This is my second week in this class. As expected, people seem to have lost interest in me, and fewer classmates are coming up to ask me questions during breaks.
After the second period ended, I step out into the hallway to go to the restroom. Just at that moment, Yatsugashira-san from Class 1B walks out from her classroom as well.
“Ah, Shinonome-kun.”
Hearing her call my name, I give her a slight nod before continuing down the hallway. However, she quickly approaches me.

Yatsugashira’s POV
“Have you gotten used to the school yet?”
“Not at all.”
“I see. Hey, do you have any plans after school today?”
“Not particularly.”
“Then, how about we talk for a bit?”
“Sure. But I’m in a bit of a hurry right now.”
“Okay.”
Fufu, looks like he still doesn’t have any friends yet. This is my chance to get closer to him.

Kazuki’s POV
After the morning classes are over and lunch break starts, Wakana calls out to me.
Even though we had that conversation on Saturday afternoon, it doesn’t make things awkward between us. We simply acknowledge the current state of our relationship. That’s something I’ve come to terms with.
“Kazuki, want to go to the cafeteria?”
“Yeah, let’s go.”

Wakana’s POV
I head to the cafeteria with Kazuki. Unlike last time, those three girls aren’t coming over to bother us.
As we quietly eat our lunch, I feel someone’s gaze on us.
When I glance in that direction, I see Takayuki looking at me. However, it doesn’t seem like he’s going to do anything.
After eating lunch with Kazuki, we put our trays in the dishwashing area and are about to leave the cafeteria.
Suddenly, Takayuki calls out to me.
“Wakana.”
“I’ll head back first.”

Kazuki’s POV
Goto calls out to Wakana. I don’t want to get involved in this, so I simply walk past him. I feel like he is glaring at me, but there is no point in worrying about it.
“Takayuki, what is it?”
“There’s something I need to talk about. Let’s go to the bench in the back.”
“Sure.”
Wakana didn’t come back until just before the bell rings. She must have a lot to deal with.
After the first afternoon class ended and the short break is over, our homeroom teacher, Mikoshiba-sensei, enters the classroom carrying a stack of papers.
“Pass these to the back.”
She hands out a few sheets to the students at the front of each row. When I get the papers, I can see that it’s about the upcoming school festival.
The papers contain detailed instructions on deciding the cultural festival committee members, deciding on events, how to create an implementation plan, and procedures to submit it to the student council for approval.
“I think you’ll understand if you read through it, but first, we need to choose one male and one female representative for the festival committee. Is there anyone who wants to volunteer? You can nominate yourself or someone else.”
As expected, there is always someone who enjoy taking charge of these things. A boy immediately volunteer himself. If I remember correctly, his name is Takeo Kanbayashi.
When he announces that he will be a member of the festival committee, several girls raise their hands. He seems to be quite popular.
The girl who is chosen to be the female representative for the festival committee is Sudo-san, the same girl who has spoken to me before. She seems to like this kind of thing.
“Everyone, I’m Takeo Kanbayashi. I’m the male representative for the festival committee, so let’s work together.”
“And I’m Kyoko Sudo, the female representative for the festival committee. Looking forward to work with you all!”
The two of them seem pretty enthusiastic about this.
“Alright, let’s decide on our event. As it’s written on the paper, we have some suggestions for our event, but we can also come up with our own ideas. If you have any suggestions, please speak up. Sudo-san, please write it on the board.”
“Okay.”
Maid Café
Takoyaki Stand
Okonomiyaki Stand
Crepe Stand
Butler Café
Regular Café
Yakisoba Stand
Udon Stand
French Fries Stand
“Any other ideas?”
For some reason, there are a lot of food-related ideas.
“We’ve got a lot of ideas, so let’s decide by majority vote.”
Kanbayashi begins counting the votes for each idea written on the blackboard.
“Kisaragi-san, Shinonome. You two are the only ones who haven’t raised your hands. Which one do you think is the best?”
“I…choose a regular café.”
“I…choose a regular café.”
Both me and Wakana say so together at the same time.
“Oh, the two of you chose the same thing. Those two votes made a big difference. A regular café it is. But what exactly is a ‘regular café’? Whoever suggested it, please explain.”
One of our classmates start explaining what a regular café is. Basically, unlike food stalls, it won’t require much effort, just serving pre-made cakes along with coffee and tea.
Apparently, that idea comes from his relative who makes and sells those kinds of cakes. I kind of understand what he’s thinking.
Kanbayashi quickly organizes everything, from budget plans to supply methods and the implementation plan. Pretty impressive.
I hope to work behind the scenes, but unfortunately, I’m assigned to manage the floor for two hours in the morning on both festival days.
In the two weeks leading up to the festival, we all spend our after-school time decorating and preparing the café together. It feels like a productive and lively time, and I gradually start to fit in with the class.
The day before the festival, we are finishing up decorations. Somehow, I feel like I’m being worked the hardest. Is it because I’m the tallest person in class? Maybe it’s just my imagination.
Now that I think about it, I completely forgot about my after-conversation with Yatsugashira-san because of all this festival preparations.
