Chapter 04: Also Lurking in the Cafeteria
I have a personal rule to go to the school cafeteria once a week. It’s something that just happened over time.
And today is that day, so I was heading to the cafeteria.
“Ah, Yuuri-san.”
“I thought I’d find you here, Hikari.”
Upon arriving at the cafeteria, I saw a familiar blonde beauty in line.
Despite wearing the same uniform, she somehow looks more elegant than the other girls. Not that the other girls look inelegant, mind you.
Hikari and I, well, we occasionally eat together.
By occasionally, I mean the days I come to the cafeteria.
Hikari seems to be here every day, and we often end up eating together.
“Hmm, I’m in the mood for curry today. What about you, Hikari?”
“I also chose something called curry.”
“Oh, the same then.”
As Hikari’s words suggest, she probably has never eaten curry before.
Actually, she once said that she hadn’t tried most of the menu items in the cafeteria.
Hikari is a Saionji, a name known to almost everyone in Japan. Well, it’s a fact.
She apparently only ate meals prepared at home until high school. Probably expensive ones.
After getting our curry, we sat down.
“Hm? By the way, where’s Shinonome-san?”
I noticed Hikari’s usual attendant was not with her.
“Shinobu is eating in the classroom.”
Oh, attendants have some freedom too. I thought they had a rule to never leave their side.
Wait a minute.
“Hikari, how are you going to eat today?”
“Oh my! What should we do?”
Hikari covered her mouth in surprise.
Being a young lady, she wasn’t used to eating alone.
Thus, she always had Shinonome-san feed her.
“Yuuri-san, if it’s alright with you, could you do the ‘aah’ thing?”
‘Aah,’ huh.
“That might not be a good idea.”
“You don’t want to?”
Hikari covered her eyes.
“No, it’s not like that, just it might give people the wrong idea?”
“Well, don’t worry about such things.”
“Okay then. Let’s do it.”
I took the spoon from Hikari and scooped up a little curry.
“Aah.”
Hikari closed her eyes and opened her mouth slightly.
I slowly brought the spoon to her.
“Mm.”
What’s this feeling of doing something forbidden?
No, I shouldn’t think too deeply about this. I might not be able to escape it. That’s what my instincts are telling me.
I shake off the thoughts and take my spoon, shoveling my own curry into my mouth.
“Hikari, your turn next.”
“…Aah.”
I scooped up curry with Hikari’s spoon and brought it to her mouth.
Then, I quickly took my spoon and started eating my own curry again.
Good! This balances it out nicely!
“Um…”
As I was eating curry, Hikari spoke to me.
“Hmm, oh, next, uh…?”
I was about to put down my spoon, but Hikari stopped me with her hand.
“It would be troublesome to keep switching spoons, so it’s alright to use your spoon, Yuuri-san.”
“…Eh?”
I almost fell to the ground from my knees.
“Ah, of course, only if you don’t mind, Yuuri-san.”
“No, no, why would I mind?”
I held my spoon and scoop up some of Hikari’s curry.
Gulp.
Then, with Hikari’s eyes closed and her mouth slightly open,
“Yu-kun? You can’t do that, okay?”
Just a few centimeters away, my hand was stopped by someone.
“A-Airi?”
When I turned around, there was Airi, expressionless.
