Chapter 03: Lurking in the Library
“Sorry, I’m late.”
As lunch break arrived, I, a library committee member, entered the library.
“It’s fine, it wasn’t busy anyway.”
The girl sitting on a chair at the counter, reading a book, seems unconcerned as she responds.
“I see.”
She is Saori Hayakawa, a fellow library committee member.
A beautiful girl with long black hair. She’s probably as cute as Airi.
There are quite a few boys who admit they like her.
Moreover, she always ranks first in tests and spends her days cooped up in the library, even during lunch breaks and after school.
“So, what book are you reading today?”
I asked Hayakawa-san the same question I always do.
“A romance novel today.”
“Oh, you read romance novels too, Hayakawa-san?”
That’s a bit surprising. She always seemed quiet and cool.
“I have interests too, you know? And there’s someone I’m curious about.”
Hayakawa-san said, shifting her gaze from the book to me.
“Oh, Hayakawa-san too!”
“…Just like the protagonist in the romance novel.”
“Huh? Did you say something?”
“No.”
Well, never mind.
“Actually, Airi seems to have someone she’s interested in and asked me for love advice.”
“And what advice did you give, Ogawa-kun?”
“Though I was asked, I don’t have much experience in love. I did a lot of research and decided to go for a Yandere approach.”
“I see… Do you like Yanderes, Ogawa-kun?”
Me? I’m not very familiar with Yanderes, but from what I’ve researched,
“Not really.”
Because it’s scary, you know.
But since it’s popular, there must be a high demand for it. It’s just that it didn’t resonate with me, but it should with the person Airi likes.
“Well, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about. For a beauty like Airi, it’s going to work out.”
“Yeah, you’re right. Thanks.”
“I haven’t done anything. By the way, I read somewhere that childhood friends are often Yanderes.”
Hmm, but Airi, who’s always smiling, is probably not like that.
Besides, I’m just now trying to make her into a yandere.

“Yu-kun is talking to another girl. And they are so close…”
From the corner of the library’s bookshelf, a shadow peered at the two of them.
It was, needless to say, Airi.
However, the Airi there was not the smiling one Yuuri knew, but an expressionless Airi.
“Ah, but this is part of the library committee’s work, so it can’t be helped, right? But do they need to talk so friendly? If only I could hear what they’re saying… But if I get any closer, I might be spotted.”
She wanted to listen but couldn’t.
Such feelings were stirring anger inside Airi.
“That should have been my place. I wanted to be on the library committee too, but that girl… And Yu-kun, too. He’s talking to another girl even though I’m here. Isn’t that like cheating? Doesn’t he realize? That girl is after Yu-kun, isn’t she?”
Airi’s thoughts spill out.
“Ah, but it’s because of the library committee, so it’s inevitable, right? Eh? What’s wrong with me?”
The yandere transformation plan.
The plan Yuuri had thought up inadvertently awakened another personality within Airi, that of a yandere.
As it turned out, his childhood friend, Airi, was indeed a yandere.
