Chapter 26.1: A Story That Was Safely Resolved
After I safely became a couple with Yuna, I talked about what happened next.
“Congratulations to both of you!”
“Yeah, let’s all be happy together.”
A while later, the two who had considerately left the room saw Yuna clinging to my waist on the bed. They seemed to understand the situation and immediately congratulated us.
This time, I caused worry for both of them.
“Come here, both of you.”
“Eh, but…”
“Even though I finally got to be with Yuna…”
“I love Yuna too, and I want to be close with both of them. Is that not okay?”
“It’s not not okay!”
Saying that, Makoto clung to Yuna’s opposite side, and Kanade climbed onto the bed and hugged me from the front. My wounds hurt a little, but well, that’s a necessary expense.
Being hugged by three beautiful women is like a scene that embodies a man’s dream. I want to stay like this forever.
…But I can’t just keep escaping reality. I need to contact my family.
Ah… I can already see a future where I get severely scolded…
As expected, a call came in. It was from Mom…
“Ryu? Aren’t you going to answer?”
“Well… it’s hard to answer, or rather, I’m not in the mood since I’ll just get scolded…”
“The more you put it off, the worse it’ll get. You should just give up cleanly.”
“That’s very true…”
Then Yuna, who was sobbing on Makoto’s opposite side, calmed down and spoke up.
“I’ll apologize to Mother-in-law too, so get scolded with me…”
“…Got it.”
I resolved myself and pressed the call button.
Well, I got yelled at like crazy.
Not just Mom, but even Dad, who’s usually mild-mannered and never gets angry, was fuming so much it might haunt my dreams, that face.
The biggest damage was that Sakuya cried because of me.
When I got stabbed, it was a time when Sakuya and I were distant, so it was what it was. But this time, knowing she looks up to me as her brother, it really hit me hard.
And sitting seiza-style on the bed like me was Yuna.
I’ve never seen Yuna so shrunk down like this.
In front of her was a smartphone on speaker. Coming from it was:
“Yuna… I told you time and again, didn’t I?”
“…Y-Yes.”
It was the voice of her father, who is also the master of her family dojo.
As expected of Yuna’s father, his overwhelming presence was clear even over the phone.
“I taught you to know yourself before facing the enemy, didn’t I?”
“…Y-Yes.”
“Was my teaching not enough?”
“Y-Yes… I mean, no…”
This girl’s done for. She’s turned into a “Y-Yes BOT.”
“Minase-kun, you’re there, right?”
Oh no, the target’s turned to me…
“Y-Yes…”
Oh, crap… I shouldn’t talk about others. I almost turned into a Y-Yes BOT myself…
No, really, this man’s voice is intense, like a deep baritone that resonates in your gut. Even though I’ve done nothing wrong, it makes me insanely nervous.
“Minase-kun.”
What’s he going to say… It’s just plain scary.
“Thank you.”
“…Huh?”
“Because of you, my daughter was safe. If not for you, I might not even be able to scold her like this. Truly, thank you. And I’m sorry.”
Even through the mic, I could tell her father was bowing.
“…No, I just acted on my own feelings.”
“That’s exactly why. Not many people would go that far for others.”
“Yuna’s not just anyone to me. She’s someone very important.”
At that, Yuna next to me gasped.
Well, yeah. Saying something like that to her father is practically a proposal.
“…I see. I can trust you with her. Please take care of my daughter.”
“…Yes!”
The rain fell, and somehow it landed well for us.
A week ago, that was the story.
“Putting your body on the line to protect a woman is admirable. It’s worthy of praise.”
“…Y-Yes.”
The test results showed, as expected, no issues with bones or muscles. I stayed in the hospital for three days for follow-up observation and then returned to school.
Waiting for me upon my return was a lecture from the team captain.
Yeah, I get it. I caused trouble for the club too. I’m really sorry.
It was so scary I finally turned into a Y-Yes BOT.
“But before throwing yourself in, wasn’t there something more you could’ve done?”
“You’re absolutely right…”
“Well, since the injury wasn’t a big deal, I’ll let it slide this time, but there won’t be a next time, got it?”
“Y-Yes!”
There’s one more person I need to thank.
“Oh, Minase-kun. You’re okay now?”
“Yes, the injury wasn’t a big deal. I’m returning to the club today too.”
“That’s great~ It’s an important time before the tournament, right~”
“Thank you so much for this time.”
“It’s fine~ Protecting students is a teacher’s job.”
Why I told Kuroki-kun to contact Ms. Kotori when I heard about Yuna’s crisis:
“My dad said he was happy to talk to me after a long time, so it was a good opportunity~”
“Please give my regards to your father too.”
“To Father-in-law?”
“…Huh?”
“Never mind~”
Here’s the thing: Ms. Kotori’s father used to be a big shot in the police’s anti-gang division, and now he’s high up in the uniformed ranks.
I heard from the suited officer who arrived at the scene that those delinquents weren’t directly linked to the gang but knew a gang member. Just calling the police might not have gotten an immediate response.
It was a precaution, but asking Ms. Kotori to pass the message was the right call.
Now, about Kuroki-kun, who I asked to pass that message.
Here’s how it went down.
Kuroki-kun, asked by Yuna to run an errand, saw a girl in a Phoenix High School uniform being forcibly taken by those sunglass-wearing guys on his way to the store.
He stepped in to help her, but pushed one of the guys too hard in the process.
Using that injury as leverage, they extorted money from Kuroki-kun. He paid them from his own wallet to settle things… or so he thought.
They identified his school from his uniform and called him out again.
That’s when Yuna barged in… and that’s how it went.
Kuroki-kun tried to handle it alone to avoid troubling the club, but it all snowballed into this big incident.
He apologized profusely while I was in the hospital, even getting down on his knees.
But if he’s at fault for anything, it’s not relying on others. His actions themselves weren’t blameworthy, so I told him not to worry too much.
And so, this incident saw a full resolution.
After school, I moved lightly at the practice field to confirm my injury had no effect. I met up with Kanade, Makoto, and Yuna to have dinner together, so I headed to the school gate where we agreed to meet.
There, an unwelcome figure stood…
“Senpai Yamamura! Have you thought about the other day!?”
“What are you talking about?”
“I mean, about making me your bodyguard!”
“Did we talk about that?”
“Don’t play dumb! If this keeps up, you’ll end up in trouble…”
“Nishino-kun, stop right there.”
“Yuna says it’s not necessary. We’re here too, so we don’t need a bodyguard.”
“Both of you, I get that you’re jealous I’m focusing on Senpai, but this isn’t the time. It’s about her life…”
“What are you all talking about?”
“…You again…!”
Nishino-kun glared at me with a terrifying expression.
There’s not a trace of his handsome face left, but is he okay?
“Ryu! You’re late!”
“Yeah! If you don’t hurry, we won’t have time to make dinner!”
“Yeah, I’m already starving.”
The three of them don’t even seem to notice Nishino-kun anymore.
As for me, I just want him to stop bothering the three of them.
“Wait! Hiragi-san, Sumeragi-san! If you hear me out, you’ll change your minds! How about it? Want to grab a meal with me? We can talk while we eat…”
“No, thank you. I have a home date with my boyfriend planned.”
“A home date… no way…”
“Same here. I want him to eat my cooking soon.”
“Wait, Sumeragi-san!? What did you… Then, Yamamura-senpai, since these two are going with Minase-kun, you can come with me…”
“Why would you think my schedule’s free in this situation?”
“Huh…?”
“I’m also heading to Ryu’s house. After all, I’m his girlfriend.”
“Wha… But Minase already has two girlfriends…”
“Yeah, I know.”
“So, Senpai… Yuna-senpai, come with me…”
“I never gave you permission to use my name. I’m already Ryu’s woman.”
“Why… How…”
“Bodyguard, was it? I’ll make it clear since you don’t seem to get it. I—no, we—already have the most reliable bodyguard we could ask for, so we don’t need you. Look elsewhere.”
Well, since it’s come to this.
Might as well say something to make sure this guy stops bothering us.
“Nishino-kun.”
“Mi-Minase… kun…”
“If you mess with these three again, I won’t hold back.”
“Eek…”
“I know I’m pretty possessive. I’m not nice enough to stay quiet when someone goes after my women. Got it?”
“Ha… Hah…!”
I heard the sound of his spirit breaking.
I couldn’t quite catch it, but he’s nodding rapidly, so I’ll take it as a yes. His head’s bobbing like a red beckoning cat—it’s kinda funny.
I should’ve done this from the start.
With this, I think Nishino won’t bother us anymore.
Leaving the dazed Nishino sitting on the ground, we head to the supermarket for groceries.
“It was nice seeing Ryu get seriously mad for once. I’ve always liked that serious face of his.”
“Ryu-kun’s like that when he’s angry… His eyes were all sharp and stuff!”
“Even though I knew he wasn’t mad at me, it was a little scary.”
“Ah, sorry, Kanade. For making you feel bad…”
“But it was more exciting than scary. Next time, I want him to scold me with that face.”
“I wasted my apology.”
It was a big incident, but with it safely resolved, I can finally focus on my own stuff.
Next up is the prefectural tournament, the qualifier for the national tournament for me and Yuna.
I need to train hard to get picked for the team.
But first, let’s have a home date with everyone.
