- Chapter 36 - This Scythe Is Safe for Self-Defense
Let me talk about what happened after we came back from the dungeon.
After using the teleport magic circle to escape, we ended up in a hidden underground room beneath the royal castle.
It was a secret room so well-hidden that even the king didn’t know about it, so the place went into an uproar. Thanks to that confusion, we managed to slip away quietly.
Oh, and it seems that above ground, a small earthquake happened because the ground collapsed.
A lot of houses were destroyed, and it was a big mess.
“I’m tired… Asuku, your big sister is exhausted.”
“Good work.”
My sister was still wearing her plague doctor mask and black coat as she threw herself onto the bed. I gave her some lazy words of encouragement.
After sneaking out of the castle, we came to the base prepared for the ‘Nightingale: Healers With No Restraint’ in the capital this time.
It looks like an old house from the outside, but it feels like a secret hideout. I actually kind of like it.
“…Asuku. Your big sister is tired. Very, very tired.”
“Good work.”
“Acting as Faceless, treating patients, giving orders to those crazy people… So pamper me more!! Pat my head! I worked hard!!”
“Yes, yes. Good work.”
I pat my sister’s head lightly.
…By the way, those crazy people she mentioned are probably the ‘Nightingale: Healers With No Restraint’.
“King Asuku!! Rub Ruu’s head too!!”
“…Ruu. Asuku is comforting me right now. You can wait for your turn.”
“No!! King Asuku!! Rub Ruu too!!”
They were too noisy, so I patted Ruu’s head as well.
“Hehehe! King Asuku’s pats feel sooo good!!”
“It really is a miracle no one died in that huge collapse.”
“What about injuries?”
“There were a lot, but we already healed everyone. So relax.”
“I see. That’s good.”
The collapse happened because Veltica and I fought.
Oh, right.
Veltica was really happy that she could repay her scholarship debt with the small amount of gold she managed to bring back…
But now there’s a rumor she might be charged twenty Manni in compensation for the collapse.
It’s only a rumor, but she still only fought me because Christina ordered her to. I feel bad for her.
Well, compared to the scale of the damage, twenty Manni is probably cheap.
“Still, Asuku. You brought back something amazing.”
“Really?”
“That giant scythe. How did it shrink like that?”
My sister’s eyes turned to the small scythe I was holding.
Yeah, the giant scythe I picked up in the dungeon had shrunk to the size of a normal one because of some kind of ancient mystery technology.
It refuses to leave my hand, but at this size, I can probably pretend it’s just for self-defense.
Eh? Nobody uses a scythe for self-defense? …Don’t think too hard about it. You’ll lose your hair when you’re older. It’s safe for self-defense.
Oh, and the silver chain I used when carrying the robot.
That chain is actually a magic artifact, too. When I pour magic into it, it moves exactly how I want.
I can hold the scythe in my right hand, wrap the silver chain around my left arm, or even attach the chain to the scythe and make it into a chain-scythe. It looks ridiculously cool.
“I have a lot of chains, so I’ll give you one as thanks for helping me this time.”
“Oh, then I’ll take one… Wait. This chain is supposed to be something Faceless recovered?”
“That’s right.”
“Then if I carry this around, won’t people think I am Faceless?”
“That’s right.”
Oh.
I wasn’t trying to make my sister the prime suspect for Faceless’s identity.
I really promise.
“So, what are you going to do with this golem?”
“There’s someone in Whistle Village who knows a lot about golems. I’m thinking of asking them to repair it.”
Seriously, the village is full of talented people.
“Well, I’m glad everything ended safely.”
“Are you heading back to the school dorm to rest?”
“Yes, before anyone gets suspicious.”
And so, we returned to the academy.
A few days later.
For some reason, Victoria called me to the student council room.
“So Faceless-sama’s true identity is Asuku?”
“No.”
“Hm. Look me in the eye and say it.”
“No.”
How on earth did she figure it out?
◆ ◇ ◆
In the Rudelhardt Empire, there are fortresses built to stop the demon army coming from the north.
One of them is Kaime Fortress.
It was supposed to be defended by a hundred heroes carrying replicas of the Holy Sword, holy weapons, and their five thousand apprentices. Even if dragons attacked in swarms, this fortress should have wiped them out easily―
Or so everyone thought.
“I-impossible… T-there are a hundred heroes, and five thousand apprentices with strength rivaling heroes… and they were all wiped out by just one person?!”
“Hm!! Reality can be cruel sometimes, right? I know, I know. When I ate the pudding marked ‘Greed,’ I got scolded for no reason, too. Now, you should regret ever meeting someone as unreasonable as me!!”
Before a man barely alive and missing a limb, there stood a single beautiful woman.
Her marigold-colored hair was cut to her shoulders, with a braid sticking out like an antenna. Twisted horns grew from her temples, and she had a full chest, a slim waist, graceful limbs, and breathtaking beauty…
She was a woman who perfectly fit the title of an unmatched beauty.
If the blood-soaked, revealing dress covering her hadn’t been stained red, she probably would have charmed everyone who saw her.
And yet, the empire’s strongest heroes had been destroyed by this one woman.
She gave a fearless smile.
“Still, strong people taste the best. Their muscles are different, full of protein, and perfect for a diet!! Hm!! I should’ve come to the empire sooner!!”
With that, she tore apart something in her hands and chewed it.
It was a human leg.
“Hm!! I’ve heard chicken thighs are best for frying. I wonder if human legs are the same? Well, I can’t cook anyway, though not because I’m bad at it. I think raw is just tastier. Mmm, mmm.”
“P-please, spare, spare my comrades…”
“Oh!! True to form, the leader of the Empire’s proud hero squad!! You’re saying it’s okay if something happens to you, just save your friends? Mm!! I love that kind of hero speech!! Fine, fine, I’ll listen to your request!!”
For a moment, the leader showed a relieved expression, but it quickly faded into despair.
“Just kidding!! It’s cute that you believed me!! Mm!! Here, your friends’ heads!!”
“No… Guine, Ausu, even Zarura!?”
“Mm!! Yes!! That expression!! The despair on human faces is the best spice!!”
“You, how dare you, hurt my friends!!”
The leader cried and was furious at the sight of his friends’ mangled bodies.
The woman just grinned.
“Mm!! Just a little joke. Sorry, sorry, don’t be mad, alright? Oh, by the way, your dead friends? I’ll enjoy them later. Right now, I’m in the middle of a little challenge called ‘How many can I eat while serious Veltica is away?’”
“Vel, tica? You mean Veltica, the hero candidate!?”
“Oh, do you know her? That’s bad. ‘Wrath’ gets scary if really angered. But well, if I eat everyone, there’s no problem!!”
“W-who are you? There’s no way a mere demon has this kind of power!!”
“Me? Mm!! Now that you mention it, I haven’t introduced myself yet.”
The woman lifted the hem of her dress and gave a graceful bow.
“I am the ‘Eater of Life,’ or the ‘Bottomless Stomach.’ For now, you can call me Zenapart, the Cardinal of ‘Gluttony’ from the White Church. Though I think secret organizations aren’t supposed to say their names. Ah well. It doesn’t matter. You’re going to be eaten anyway!!”
“D-don’t come any closer!! I, I’m not ready to die!!”
“You just said I should only kill you. Isn’t that a little contradictory?”
“I can’t, can’t accept such a meaningless death―”
Before the words could finish, the leader’s neck and body separated.
Zenapart licked her lips and drank the dripping blood.
“Mm!! This is why I can’t stop massacres!! And, if I’m going to drink, it has to be fresh human blood!! …Honestly, strong young virgins’ blood would be best, but I’m not ‘Greed,’ so I can hold back!!”
Zenapart laughed wickedly.
She had caused a huge massacre at Kaime Fortress, yet she didn’t know one important thing.
That taking others’ lives for pleasure was a line that one certain street healer must never cross.

Afterword
One-Point Story
Author: “There’s honestly nothing more exciting than a busty psycho girl.”
A: “? Isn’t my sister not busty?”
F: “Oh, Asuku. What exactly do you mean by that?”
☆Notice☆
End of Part 2. I was thinking of ending here since I ran out of notes, but the story’s getting popular, so I’ll keep writing. Please give me three more days, and I’ll do my best to post every day. If you’ve enjoyed the story so far, please give it ★★★. It really boosts the author’s motivation, or let’s be honest, scratches my approval-seeking itch. So, pretty please.
If you thought, “If a masked person with a scythe and chain isn’t suspicious, I don’t know what is,” “Did their identity get found out?!” “A real enemy has finally appeared!!” “I can’t wait for Part 3!!” “The author’s spilling too much,” please leave your thoughts, bookmarks, ★ ratings, or reviews.
