- Chapter 26 - Leaking Information Is Not Good
With Garu guiding us, we walked around several places inside the academy.
Victoria and I were following behind him, but please don’t worry about the small details.
“There are sword clubs, magic study groups, cleaning committees, broadcast committees… there are so many kinds of clubs and groups here.”
Veltica sounded impressed.
The magic academy had a wide range of clubs. After classes, students gathered during their free time and worked on whatever activity they liked.
To be honest, I was interested in joining a club too. I never had anything like that in my past life.
But I’m a student council officer, and on top of that, I have to do my night street-healing work. If I joined a club, I wouldn’t get enough sleep.
It’s a little disappointing.
“Hm? Garu-san, what’s that building over there?”
“Oh, that’s the Discipline Committee’s annex. It’s the place where they take students who cause trouble and question them.”
“Can we take a look inside?”
“Yeah. I already got permission, so it’s fine if we go.”
And so, we headed to visit the Discipline Committee’s annex.
When we entered, Lucan-senpai greeted us.
“Hey. Welcome, little brother-kun. And welcome to the Discipline Committee, dog-kun.”
“Thank you for having us.”
“I keep saying it, I’m a wolf.”
“Hm. I’m sorry for disturbing you when you’re busy.”
“Ahaha, Princess Victoria, you don’t have to be so formal. I was free anyway.”
We couldn’t just wander around the Discipline Committee’s building on our own, so from here, Lucan-senpai guided us.
The first place he took us to was a small room.
“This is the interrogation room. It’s where we talk to students who caused trouble.”
“Hm. Is someone being questioned right now?”
“Yeah. A student from the Forbidden Magic Research Club.”
Lucan-senpai gave a wry smile.
“The Forbidden Magic Research Club?”
“They tried to sneak in at night and steal one of the magic tools we keep here. The night guard caught them.”
“A magic tool…”
“Yeah, it’s a tool that can sense lies. It’s actually a relic from the ancient magic civilization that existed long before the founding of the Xylica Kingdom.”
“An ancient magic civilization relic!? An artifact!?”
Veltica’s eyes sparkled like a small child who had found treasure.
The ancient magic civilization.
A long time ago, they ruled the entire continent and had magic far more advanced than what we have today, or so people say.
Stories where the people of the past were more advanced than the present always feel kind of romantic.
But then, a small question came to my mind.
“Such a valuable thing, it’s kept at the academy? And in the Discipline Committee of all places?”
“The magic academy is like a small version of the kingdom’s noble society. Many people think they’re just students, but sometimes conflicts between kids can reflect conflicts between their parents.”
“Hm.”
…Now I’m starting to feel a little scared about what I did to Duke Arnall.
No, he seems to like my sister, so it should be fine. Yeah, it’ll be okay. If I apologize properly, he’ll surely forgive me.
“Anyway, a few generations ago, a king decided to store it at the academy to help solve problems when they arise. It’s valuable, so it’s rarely used.”
“But why would the Forbidden Magic Research Club want such a magic tool?”
“That magic tool seems to use mental magic. Oh, do you know about mental magic? It’s a magic that was lost hundreds of years ago.”
W-what!?
I never thought I’d hear the name mental magic here.
But now that I think about it, mental magic is so dangerous that it was banned, and no one uses it anymore.
So it wouldn’t be surprising if the Forbidden Magic Research Club had noticed it and was gathering information.
…Maybe I should visit their clubroom sometime.
“Oh? Lucan-san, do you have a moment?”
“Yes, yes. Um, you are…?”
“I’m Ridiel, you can just call me that.”
“Oh, the one who gathered the lower nobles and formed a faction?”
“Huh? A faction? What are you talking about?”
Ridiel tilted her head and was clearly confused. She really has no idea she created a faction.
“So, what is it you wanted?”
“I was wondering, what are those Discipline Committee students over there doing?”
“Hm? Oh, those are first-year students training.”
Where Ridiel was pointing, a few Discipline Committee members were in the courtyard of the annex, holding crossbows and aiming at targets about ten meters away.
Are they training for something?
“Ridiel, do you know about the time the academy was taken over by that mysterious armed group?”
Veltica quickly looked away from Lucan-senpai, pretending she didn’t know.
Well, she is the mastermind. She’d look away.
“Yes, I know. I heard a lot of people got hurt. It sounded terrible…”
“Exactly. Even though it was a surprise attack, the academy is where the future generation of the kingdom studies. So the problem was that the defense was too weak. Especially in the first year, they were scared and lost their fighting spirit. That’s why they’re training like this.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, little brother-kun. To fix that problem, they doubled the security and started training the Discipline Committee so they can fight if needed.”
Hm.
“…H-hey, Lucan-san.”
“Hm? What is it?”
“C-can I join in too?! I want to shoot!!”
Ridiel grabbed the crossbow she’d been carrying on her back and started fidgeting.
Lucan-senpai chuckled and nodded.
“If you don’t mind, can you teach the first-years some sniping tips?”
“Consider it done!! I’ll make them all expert snipers!!”
“Thank you.”
Ridiel jumped out the window to join the Discipline Committee’s training.
We’re on the second floor, though.
“Hmm. Veltica, is Ridiel really good at sniping?”
“She’s not just good, she’s a genius. Within a hundred meters, she can hit her target even with her eyes closed. And if her eyes are open, she can hit targets a kilometer away.”
“…Whoa. Can crossbows really shoot that far?”
“No, her crossbow is a holy weapon. It’s special, unlike a normal crossbow. Its effective range is ten kilometers, and honestly, at long distances, I’d lose to her. The scary part is that her skill in hitting the target comes from her own talent. She’s that strong.”
Veltica puffed out her chest proudly.
After that, we spent some time walking around the Discipline Committee’s facilities, but I started feeling a little strange.
“Lucan-senpai, doesn’t the Discipline Committee feel different? They were overly motivated or something?”
“Ah, you noticed, huh? Sharp as always, little brother-kun. Can I whisper something to you?”
“Yeah.”
Lucan-senpai leaned in and whispered secretly.
“Actually, just between us, the knights are seriously planning to capture Faceless alive. They even asked the academy’s Discipline Committee to help.”
“Ah.”
“Little brother-kun?”
“It’s nothing.”
I’d made a weird sound when her breath hit my ear.
More importantly… Did she just say they’re seriously trying to capture Faceless alive?
“Even the Discipline Committee will be involved?”
“Yeah, but only those who volunteered. They’re planning to gather all the injured and sick people in the capital in one place to lure Faceless out. Though… he’s not going to fall for such an easy trap.”
“…Hmm.”
“And since helping out can get them a spot in the knights, all the Discipline Committee members are super motivated.”
“Ah, that makes sense.”
Maybe I should discuss this with my sister, too.
Still… Lucan-senpai, leaking information like that is good.
Thinking that, I left Garu to guide the students from the Hero Academy ―Ahem, ahem.
I headed to the student council room, where my sister was probably busy working.
Victoria seemed bored with being guided, too, and quietly followed behind me.
She’s so free, this princess.
The problem came just as I reached for the doorknob of the student council room.
“Ah♡ N-no♡ Franc-sama♡ Not there♡”
“Please, give yourself to me, Princess Christina.”
“Ah♡ N-no♡ Higu♡”
What on earth is my sister doing?
