“What should we do next?” After picking out all the prizes we wanted from the arcade, we were strolling through the shopping mall.

“Yeah. The girls around me wear makeup pretty often, so I just try to keep up with them.”

“Oh, can we check out that shop over there? It looks cute!”

Ayame suddenly stopped in her tracks. It was a store that sold character goods featuring cat motifs. They were cute, and I think they’ve been pretty trendy. The mascot we won at the arcade earlier was one of these characters, too.

“Wow, it’s so cute. I like this character.” “Really? Yeah, it’s cute.”

“Yes! Oh, I’ve been collecting this mechanical pencil series, and look at this keychain—it’s adorable!”

Ayame’s voice rose with excitement. “Ugh, it’s seriously cute. Next time, I’m definitely buying this.”

“You don’t want to buy it today?” “Nope. I’m too indecisive today to make a choice.”

“I see. Well, that makes it something to look forward to next time.” “Yes! Oh, by the way…”

“What is it?” “Would you come hang out with me again next time?”

While gazing at the character goods, Ayame suddenly asked. Her voice had a hint of seriousness, which caught me off guard. But I brushed it off and replied.

“Of course.” “That’s a relief. Actually, you just gave me a promise, you know! It’s a deal!”

“Yeah, got it.” “Yay! I’m so glad you became my friend, Nishikikouji-san. Spending time together like this is so much fun.”

“Is that so?” “Yes!” With a bright smile, Ayame turned back to the trinkets once more.
