- Chapter 3 - The Morning Routine as Always (Saeki's Perspective)
One morning, as usual.
“Come on already! Hurry up and get up, Hiro!”
“Mm, just five more minutes…”
I had come to Hiro Sakagami’s house, my childhood friend known as “Hiro”. Well, it’s not like I came from far away since his house is next to mine.
“Just five more minutes… You said the same thing earlier! We’ll be late for school if you don’t hurry!”
“Geez, why is Saeki in my room…”
“What do you mean ‘why’, seriously… Your mom asked me to do something about your laziness. Come on, I’m opening the curtains!”
— Shwack!
As I said that, I swiftly pulled open Hiro’s room curtains. Hiro finally got up lazily after basking in the sunlight pouring into the room.
“Geez, really… Mom, why’d you have to say that to Saeki…”
“Hey, you shouldn’t talk about your mom like that!”
“Ah, sorry… yawn…”
I scolded Hiro lightly, and he apologized while yawning lazily.
“Seriously… Well then, I’m preparing breakfast in the kitchen, so hurry up and change.”
“Prepare breakfast… haha, you’re just gonna pour milk over cornflakes anyway. You’re so bad at cooking, don’t try to act all cool by preparing breakfast.”
“Geez, you’re so annoying! I won’t prepare yours then!”
“Haha, sorry sorry. I’ll change quickly and join you.”
“Sigh… Alright, got it. Hurry up and change.”
Saying that, I left Hiro’s room and headed to the kitchen to start preparing breakfast.
Well, Hiro’s right though, I’m bad at cooking, so I just put corn flakes and yogurt on the table…
“Sigh… Maybe I should start studying cooking soon…”
I murmured softly, thinking about that.
◇◇◇◇
So, to introduce myself again, my name is Saeki Yukimura. I’m a typical 17-year-old high school girl.
And the name of the boy from earlier is Hiro Sakagami, also known as “Hiro”. He’s a 17-year-old high school boy just like me, and Hiro and I have been childhood friends. Our houses are right next to each other.
So, Hiro and I played together a lot since we were kids. We played games together inside the house, played tag and hide-and-seek outside, almost every day during our childhood.
Our parents were also very close, so during long vacations, our families often went on overnight trips together, like to the beach, hot springs, or skiing.
After a while, when we both became middle school students, we both kind of felt like we didn’t want to play with each other as much due to the awkwardness of puberty. During that period, we became a bit distant from each other.
But since we were neighbors and our families had a good relationship, any tense atmosphere was quickly resolved, and Hiro and I soon started hanging out together again.
Now that we’re high school students, we have a fairly good relationship where we tease each other but also interact fairly openly. And of course, we trust each other.
Recently, Hiro’s mom has asked me to look after Hiro, so I often go to Hiro’s house in the morning like today to wake him up. Then we go to school together and sometimes have lunch together.
So, almost every day, we spend our student lives together, and because of this, our friends around us often tease us, saying things like “You two are like a married couple” or “Doing your comedy routine again today, huh?”
But, in reality, Hiro and I aren’t dating. We really are just childhood friends with a good relationship. So, how should I put it… For me, Hiro is like a cheeky little brother? Yeah, that’s probably how I see him.
So, while I felt a bit embarrassed when our friends teased us about our relationship being “like a married couple,” I didn’t really mind that much. But…
(But… I wonder how Hiro feels about all this?)
I’ve been curious about that for a while. What does Hiro think about our relationship being called “like a married couple” by our friends?
(If Hiro actually doesn’t like being called that by our friends… that would be a bit… sad…)
While thinking about that, I poured cornflakes and milk into a bowl from the cupboard.
