Chapter 118: Miwa and Me
“Um… You’re going to make dinner? Could it be that you are going to cook?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“Wha… What!? *You*, the mischievous boy that you were, making dinner for me!? C-Can you really do that!?”
When I said that, Miwa-nee’s expression immediately turned into one of pure shock.
(Well, I guess it’s only natural she’d be surprised, considering she knew me when I was a delinquent.)
Of course, I’ve never served homemade food to Miwa-nee before. So, if I were to do the same for Ayako, she’d probably react just like Miwa-nee.
“Well, I can only make simple things. So, what do you think? If you’re okay with it, I can whip up something quick for dinner.”
“Um… Yes, if you don’t mind, I’d be happy to join you.”
“Got it. I’ll make something simple for dinner, so you can go ahead and start looking for what you need.”
“Okay, I will.”
With that, we headed toward the living room.
— Click.
“Huh? It’s Miwa-nee. Good evening!”
“Ah, Yuuna-chan. Good evening. I’ll be intruding for just a little while.”
Miwa-nee entered the living room after opening the door, and Yuuna, who was sitting at the table, greeted her. Miwa-nee returned the greeting.
Just like Miwa-nee and I know each other, Yuuna also knows Miwa-nee.
When I was a baby, Miwa-nee was a university student, and she used to come over almost every day to take care of me. But by the time Yuuna was born, Miwa-nee was already busy with work, so she couldn’t visit as often.
Even so, whenever she had some free time, Miwa-nee would come to see us and always treated us kindly. Because of that, even Yuuna, who is usually shy, grew quite fond of her.
“It’s been a while, Miwa-nee! What brings you here today? Oh, did you come to play with us?”
“Oh, no, not today. I just came to pick up something your mother forgot… Wait, ‘too’?”
Miwa-nee seemed puzzled by what Yuuna said and turned to ask me about it.
“Oh, I brought a friend over a little while ago, and they played really well with Yuuna. Since then, they’ve been coming over sometimes to play with her.”
“I see. But for *that* Yuuna-chan to get along so well with someone… They must be a really good friend.”
The emphasis on “that” was about Yuuna’s shyness. It took Miwa-nee quite a while to become close to her.
“Yeah, she’s really kind, smart, good at games, and she’s super beautiful! Her name is Saeki-nee.”
“Saeki-chan, huh… Wait, what!? You’re bringing a girl friend to the house!?”
When Yuuna explained about Yukimura, Miwa-nee turned to me with a shocked expression. Well, it’s no wonder she’s surprised with that kind of explanation.
“Uh, well, the way Yuuna put it might be a bit misleading, but… yeah, that’s right.”
I answered while stumbling over my words. Seeing that, Miwa-nee began to grin mischievously.
“Is that so? As your long-time ‘sister figure,’ I’d love to hear more about this, but since there’s no time now, I’ll ask about it another day.”
“Well… I don’t know how much I’ll tell you, but sure. Oh, by the way, if you have time sometime, I’d like to hear about what you and Ayako were like when you were students.”
“About us? I don’t mind, but it was almost 18 years ago, so I don’t remember everything that well. But why do you want to hear about that?”
“Well, it’s just… I realized I’ve never really heard much about you or Ayako before. So, I thought I’d like to learn more about my family from now on.”
“…I see.”
I said this to Miwa-nee, feeling a little embarrassed.
“Hehe, so you consider me part of your ‘family’ too?”
“Of course. You just said yourself that you’ve been my sister figure.”
When I was young, Miwa-nee would play with me, eat with me, nap with me, play games with me… She did so much for me.
So to me, even if we’re not related by blood, Miwa-nee is like a real sister.
…Though she can look a bit stern and scary sometimes.
“Hehe, I see. Alright, then. Next time I have some free time, I’ll come by to chat with you again.”
“Sure, I’m looking forward to the day we can talk about the past. Oh, right, I’ll go ahead and start making a simple meal now, so you can start looking for what you need.”
“Okay, I will.”
With that, Miwa-nee went into Ayako’s room to start looking for what she needed. I watched her go, then headed to the kitchen to make a light meal for her.

Chapter 119: Serving Miwa a Home-Cooked Meal
A few minutes later.
“Here you go, Miwa-nee.”
“Thanks.”
I prepared a simple meal for Miwa-nee. The fridge was nearly empty, so I made a quick fried rice with some leftover frozen rice, ham, and eggs.
“Well then, let’s eat.”
“Go ahead.”
Miwa-nee sat at the table, put her hands together, and then scooped up some of the fried rice with a spoon and put it into her mouth.
“Mmm, it’s delicious…!”
Miwa-nee looked very surprised as she murmured that. Then she began eating the fried rice with a very satisfied expression.
Seeing her enjoy it made me happy.
“I’m glad it suits your taste, Miwa-nee.”
“Yes, it’s really delicious. But for you to be able to cook something so good… When did you learn such a skill?”
“Huh? Oh, well… just recently. A few months ago, we had a cooking class at school, and I thought cooking was fun, so I started doing it as a hobby.”
“Is that so? But to be able to cook this well in just a few months is impressive.”
I said that, and Miwa-nee continued eating the fried rice with an impressed look.
The truth is, I’d been cooking a lot since before I was reincarnated as Kuzuma, but telling her that would only confuse her, so I decided to keep it simple.
“Onii-chan, I finished washing the dishes!”
While Miwa-nee and I were talking about the meal, my little sister Yuuna returned from the kitchen.
Recently, Yuuna had started washing her own dishes after meals. She’s such a good sister.
“Thanks, Yuuna. I really appreciate you always washing the dishes.”
“Yeah! I’ll keep doing my best to help you, Onii-chan! Oh, look! Onii-chan made fried rice! I love Onii-chan’s fried rice so much!”
“Yes, it’s really delicious. Do you like the fried rice that Masato makes, Yuuna-chan?”
“Yeah! It’s the first meal Onii-chan ever made for me! So, it’s my favorite dish in the whole world!”
“Is that so? Hehe, you’re a good brother, Masato.”
Miwa-nee glanced at me and smiled warmly.
“W-What? Why are you looking at me like that?”
“No reason. I’m just glad to see that you and Yuuna-chan get along so well.”
Miwa-nee said that with a smile and went back to eating her fried rice. I felt a bit embarrassed, so I decided to change the subject.
“Oh, by the way, Miwa-nee, did you find those documents? I mean, bringing work documents home like that… Is Ayako okay? Aren’t those confidential?”
I started to worry about Ayako, so I asked Miwa-nee about it.
“Hm? Oh, no, they’re not confidential documents. Ayako wouldn’t bring something that important home.”
“Oh, that’s good to hear.”
It wasn’t a story about Ayako accidentally bringing home confidential documents, so I felt relieved.
“What’s wrong? Hehe, were you worried that your mom made a mistake at work?”
“Well… Is it bad to be concerned about your own mom?”
“Of course not. But… make sure you never forget to care about your family, okay?”
“…Yeah, I understand.”
Miwa-nee said that to me, and I nodded deeply in agreement.
“I’m glad to hear that. Well, I should finish eating and get back to work.”
“Good luck with your work.”
“Of course. Hehe, Ayako is lucky to have a son who can cook such delicious meals.”
“Oh, um… Like I said, I only started cooking a few months ago, so I haven’t cooked for Ayako yet.”
“Really? That’s a shame. She loves food, so I’m sure she’d be thrilled to know you can cook.”
“Yeah, I’d be happy if Ayako enjoyed my cooking… By the way, Miwa-nee, do you know what Ayako’s favorite dish is?”
“Huh? Ayako’s favorite dish?”
Having Ayako’s best friend and direct supervisor right in front of me felt like a chance, so I asked if Miwa-nee knew what my mom liked to eat.
Miwa-nee thought for a moment and then answered.
“Well, Ayako is the type to say everything tastes good, so I don’t think she has a favorite food… Oh, but I do know what she doesn’t like.”
“Really? I’d love to know!”
“Sure, I can tell you. Hehe, the truth is… she can’t handle spicy food.”
“S-Spicy food?”
“Yes. She only eats mild curry, and she can’t eat sushi with wasabi. She says it’s embarrassing that she can’t eat wasabi at her age, so don’t tell anyone, okay? This is our little secret, Masato.”
Miwa-nee said that playfully, and I couldn’t help but smile a little too.
“…Wow, I didn’t know that. Hahaha, so Ayako can’t handle spicy food either, huh? Haha.”
“Yes, that’s right. Is it that funny? You’re really laughing a lot.”
“Huh? Oh, no, it’s just…”
It seemed like I had smiled a bit too broadly, but it couldn’t be helped.
(So… haha, Ayako and I both don’t like spicy food.)
After all, I had just discovered something in common with my own mother. Of course, I’d be happy about that.
“…I’m not sure why, but anyway, as long as it’s not spicy, Ayako will probably enjoy anything you make. I hope that helps.”
“Yeah, it’s really helpful. Thanks a lot, Miwa-nee.”
“You’re welcome. And thank you for this delicious fried rice.”
“I’m glad you enjoyed it. Feel free to come by anytime if you want more.”
“Hehe, I’ll take you up on that offer and visit again soon.”
With that, we expressed our thanks to each other and continued chatting while I watched Miwa-nee finish her meal.
