Chapter 91 – I Want You to Desire Me [Kanja Shion’s POV]
[Kanja Shion’s POV]
I like to look at the clear sky and often go to the rooftop.
The autumn sky is still warm, the wind is still blowing and the sun is hot.
When I looked down at the school, I noticed that the clothes were becoming more sparse, with some students wearing summer clothes and others wearing cardigans.
The atmosphere of the entire school was moving towards the school culture festival, and it was different from the time of the sports festival.
The sports festival is filled with enthusiasm for physical activities. However, at the culture festival, there is an atmosphere where some students create works individually, while others work together in class or club activities to create something as a group. It exudes a different kind of passion compared to the sports festival.
“I like the atmosphere of the school culture festival more than the sports festival.”
The wind calms my hair.
While taming my disheveled hair, I find myself surprised by the change in my feelings.
As I start to think that I’ll be leaving the school, I now have the luxury of looking at each and every student at the school.
Each of them is the protagonist of their own life with a future ahead.
I’m just here to assist in their lives.
That’s why, even if I’m gone, it’s not a problem.
It is a lonely thing, but unless we become someone who is wanted and needed by someone else, we will all just end up being just such helpers.
However, Grandma needs me and wants to appoint me as the head of the family.
It’s my life that someone needs. I don’t resent that.
“I’ve been a teacher for only a year and a half. So, even if I quit, there might not be anyone who remembers me.”
I smiled as if self-inflicting a wound.
“Kanja-sensei?”
There are only a limited number of students who come to the rooftop, and there is only one boy who calls out to me and makes me feel my heart tighten.
“Taketo-kun. What’s wrong? I thought you’ve been holed up in the music room of the old school building lately.”
“You’re not wrong. Lately, I’ve been worrying about the assignments given by Takatori-sensei, but I need a change of pace.”
“I guess that happens to you too.”
“Yes. I’m not perfect.”
Taketo-kun is a mysterious student who somehow manages to penetrate deep into my heart.
“Hey, Taketo-kun. What kind of feelings do you put into the school culture festival?”
I want to make this last culture festival a good memory.
Taketo-kun will experience the culture festival three more times, including this year. He will create memories with each one.
However, this is the only culture festival that I can spend with him.
“This year, I’m thinking of playing the piano for a woman.”
“Eh?”
I’ve been keeping track of the women he’s been getting along with.
Inukai Nazuna-san.
Nekono Mimi-san.
Hitsujigaoka Momo-san.
Shisitei Sayoko-san.
Ushiumi Kurumi-san.
All five are cute girls. They’re young girls who can take classes with Taketo-kun in the classroom.
To me, I’m so envious, to the point of jealousy…
But somewhere along the line, the girls are getting along well with Taketo-kun, so I can accept it.
He is a wonderful man, but with our age difference, we wouldn’t be a match.
“Who will you be playing for? Please tell me.”
If a name other than mine comes out of Taketo-kun’s mouth, I can completely give up.
“Hmm, do I really have to say it?”
“You don’t want to say?”
Taketo-kun looked troubled and let out a deep sigh. It looked like he was really embarrassed.
“It’s for Sensei.”
“Eh?”
Sensei? Is he talking about Neon? Because Neon mentioned it? It was an unexpected answer, but I guess that’s what’s going on.
“I decided to play the piano at the school festival for Kanja Shion-sensei.”
“…Me?”
His words were so unexpected that I momentarily forgot my own words.
Is the reason he is playing the piano at the culture festival for me? That can’t be.
Because he doesn’t know that I’m leaving the school…
Thump!
My chest swelled, and then I felt a pain that felt like it was being squeezed tightly.
“Kanja-sensei. Actually, I’m now part of the Ryuoin family again, so I’m no longer Mitsurugi.”
“Ryuoin Taketo-kun.”
“Yes. Therefore, I hold the same status as your family.”
I understand what he’s trying to say. But I want him to say it until the end.
“I have fallen in love with many women due to the Ryuoin family’s curse. This is a saga that has been imposed on me.”
“Saga? What do you mean?”
Somewhere, I had thought that my life was bound by my family.
And I felt that the words Taketo-kun spoke were similar to that feeling.
“I end up lusting after many women. And, Kanja Shion-sensei, I want you too.”
Ehh!!! Thump, thump, thump!
I can’t lie anymore.
I was just making excuses for various reasons. Like I’m quitting, because he has many cute girls already, because I have my own life.
But the truth was…
I really wanted him to desire me.
I wanted to be by his side.
Everything was just an excuse…
“Will you accept me? I think of this cultural festival as a way to convey that. So, it’s okay if you don’t answer right away. My piano is for you, Kanja Shion-sensei. I dedicate it to you.”
After saying that, he left the rooftop.
As the autumn breeze blew through, I held my eyes, not my hair, to wipe away my tears.
