Chapter 7 – The Next Morning and the Commotion
The day after sleeping like a log.
It was time to have lunch.
Time to go to lunchtime.
“…W-Whoa… It’s really delicious.”
“Ha ha ha, I’m glad you said that, bro.”
The man who rented a room in an inn called “Kai,” which was the same as the owner’s real name, was putting food in his mouth at the restaurant attached to the inn.
“Bro… Are you the guy wearing black armor yesterday?”
“W-Well…”
The owner of the inn called out from the kitchen.
The man, who had not expected to be asked after talking to himself at the counter, nodded and answered, though he did it with his usual stutter.
“I knew it! I thought I heard a voice that sounded like you.”
“I see…”
The man thought he wouldn’t be discovered because he was wearing armor, but that prediction was easily proven wrong.
He had often wondered about this world since he was reincarnated in it.
The people were all good communicators. Of course, it was nice because they could lead the conversation.
“You look so different in your armor, bro. I was scared of you when I first saw you.”
“I-Is that so…?”
“The pressure was extraordinary. And those equipments must have been pretty serious stuff, right? You don’t see that kind of equipment very often. You’re obviously a very good treasure hunter.”
The man was misunderstood about his profession only because he wore the equipment to the inn’s reception desk yesterday, but he decided not to correct it.
It was hard to admit that he was “jobless.”
“Bro, you’re not from around here, are you?”
“Well… I came from far away.”
“No wonder you’re so polite. A lot of the treasure hunters in this town are very arrogant… That’s why there are so many fights.”
“I-I see…”
The man was also a treasure hunter famous for his bloodlust. Not wanting to get involved, the man brought food to his mouth with a wry smile on his face.
And so, chatting with the owner, he was just about to finish his meal, when…
The wooden swinging door that served as the entrance to the inn was opened.
“Excuse me. I’d like to ask a question—”
The man and the owner Kai turned their heads to the source of the voice at the same time.
Entering was a man in armor with a gold crest.
“—I would like to know if anyone in jet-black equipment has visited this inn.”
“…Inn-keeper, it’s not me.”
“I can’t say that when you’re sitting right here…”
The two secretly interacted with each other.
“…Please. Hide me.”
“D-Don’t be absurd! That’s the Duke’s men…”
“The Duke’s!? F-For the meantime, please do as I said, I’m begging you.”
Realizing the man’s heartfelt wish, the inn-keeper replied with, “Unfortunately he has not visited.”
Five minutes later.
“—I would like to ask one question. Have there been any visitors to this inn wearing black equipment?”
The wooden swinging door was opened and a woman in a monastic-like dress with a crossed emblem entered.
“…Inn-keeper, please.”
“W-Wait, wait, wait. That’s from the Holy Saint Church…!”
“T-The Holy Saint Church!? F-For the meantime, please do as I said, I’m begging you…”
The inn-keeper heard the same thing from the man.
Realizing the man’s heartfelt wish, the inn-keeper answered once more.
“Unfortunately he has not visited.”
After another five minutes.
“Excuse me for disturbing you. Have you seen anyone in black armor at the inn here?”
The wooden swinging door was opened and a silver crested figure in armor entered.
“Inn-keeper…”
“T-This is just impossible. That guy is from the Commercial Organization…”
“Please do as I said, I’m begging you…”
Realizing the man’s heartfelt wish, the inn-keeper answered again.
“Unfortunately he has not visited.”
And just as the three troubles had passed.
“S-Sir…”
As if increasing his level of alertness, the inn-keeper, who had switched from calling the man “bro”, said with a jerk and a twitch at the corner of one side of his mouth.
“What have you done, Sir…? The three most powerful people in this city were all looking for you…”
“I-I don’t know… If I had any idea why they were looking for me, I would have come forward already.”
Exactly because the man had no clue, he couldn’t (out of fear) come forward.
At first, the man thought it might be related to the incident where he saved the three girls, but he had said, “Thank me another time,” so it was highly unlikely that they would suddenly become so active overnight.
“S-Sir… You’re not trying to pick a fight with the three strongest people in this city, are you…?”
“I…don’t know that either. Maybe I did that unconsciously…”
“That’s not something to joke about, you know!?”
The inn-keeper Kai’s eyes widened as he looked pale, and he began to escape from reality while holding his head.
****
“Duke Diggoth—”
“—Any progress?”
“I’m sorry. We’re trying to gather information using a lot of men, but we haven’t been able to identify anything specific yet…”
“As you’d expect from a man of his caliber… Keep up the good work.”
“Yes, sir!”
Similar exchanges took place in two other households.

Inn-keeper is such a bro, man…
What do I even say about this chapter? 😅
