“What? You were taken away from Ardia City? …That’s over two towns away from here, it’s going to take a lot of time to get there…”

“Please direct those complaints to your companions. It’s all their fault.”

“We’re not companions (anymore).”

The morning sun shone through the ceiling of the treehouse. 

While looking at a map, the man spoke back to the red-haired girl, Karen.

“Hey, can’t someone use teleportation? That magic that makes you move instantly.”

“If we could use that magic, we would have used it long ago and escaped.”

“…I guess that makes sense.”

It was a perfectly good argument.

If I’d been the game character I’d been grinding on, I would’ve been able to use teleportation…

The man had finished examining his own stats.

The result was grade C in the treasure hunter category, just slightly above average. It was very typical of a mob villain.

“The story goes that there has been only one person in the past who can use teleportation.”

“Yeah… That’s legendary magic after all.”

The girl who intervened was the previously blind, white-haired girl, Nina.

It must have been a long time since she saw daylight. She was speaking while glancing up at the ceiling.

“Yes, yes, Karen.”

“My name is Nina Quarrier Ansage.”

“Yes, yes, Nina.”

They were too long to remember.

“So, is it Remy who is still sleeping on the bed?”

“Yes. Remy Traria Albrella.”

“Roger.”

The man felt sorry for having been told the full name, but he could only remember her by Remy.

“Well, the problem is just beginning… Even if each of your illnesses is cured, it won’t mean much if you can’t return to your hometown.”

“If those bad guys find us, you’ll protect us, right? You’re a spy, so you must be pretty good at that.”

“I can’t give you that guarantee.”

Karen and Nina stiffened at these words.

The feeling of “fear” was evident, but it was this man who felt the most fear.

For the villains, the worst possible outcome would be if the man and girls managed to enter a town and call for help.

It would be normal to take measures to prevent the worst from happening.

“That’s why we’ll take a little detour. Not through Wafer Town, but through this village. It might cost us more than usual, but we can arrange for a carriage (I know that much).”

The man put his knowledge of the game to immediate use.

He had stolen money from the bad guys. Although it was a bad thing to steal, for once the man was glad he took it.

The man, scratching his cheeks and embarrassed, let his gaze wander and his eyes met the blonde girl’s.

The blonde girl was lying on the bed, looking at them with her eyes open.

“Y-You… Why didn’t you say that you were awake…”

“…I’m awake.”

“Yeah, that’s a bit late now.”

At any rate, the man was relieved to see that the girl had recovered, but he was still oblivious…

—Well, thank your parents . I wouldn’t have done this if I hadn’t received instructions from higher ups.

He was embarrassed to say these words, but he would later find out that his words would cause a terrible misunderstanding.

The room was filled with angry shouts.

Then, the large door of the room was opened with a bang.

“M-Master! I am terribly sorry for my rudeness! We have just received word from the gatekeeper that Karen-sama has arrived!”

“W-What!? Is that really true!?”

As soon as The Duke heard the report, he stood up, banging the table with a thump.

“There is no doubt! Moreover, Nina-sama and Remy-sama as well!”

“Oh my God, they’re all safe… This is a miracle…!”

“According to the report, it seems that someone wearing jet-black equipment successfully rescued them.” 

“Equipment? They were saved by a treasure hunter!?”

“The identity is still unknown… And there is one more detail that I couldn’t believe when I heard it. It was said that—Karen-sama is able to walk by herself, Nina-sama is able to see, and Remy-sama is in good health!”
