I no longer want to be a part of this triangle! - Chapter 26- Father~2
Kazuki didn’t want his father to suddenly start opening some ancient boxes of his embarrassing tales that’s why he urged them to chat in the living room while he prepared tea in the kitchen.
Kohana, naturally, was quite nervous to meet someone from her boyfriend’s family for the first time. However, she would not allow her nervousness to become a reason for his displeasure. Just like her Senpai, Kohana was also steadfast in getting herself accepted as Kazuki’s girlfriend by his father.
The two individuals sat across from each other, with Kohana on the couch and Akihito seated on a chair, which Kazuki offered.
Silence didn’t persist for long as the man asked, “You are sure that Kazuki isn’t forcing you into this relationship. If he has some dirt on you then tell me-”
“No!” Kohana lowered her tone a little before adding, “He didn’t force me, Ichihara-san, rather it was me who confessed to him first.”
Akihito raised his brows, “Exactly what you saw in him?”
Akihito could tell from the first glance that the girl comes from a good family. Her hair isn’t dyed unlike most high school girls these days. No excessive make-up or accessories. And the way she talked was also quite polite. Not to talk about, she is adorable like a doll as well. Then why…
“I saw a hard-working and dedicated man in him, which made me fall for Senpai,” With her eyes drawn to the ground and a soft smile lifting the edges of her lips, she continued, “Not anyone until now I have seen of his age to be so passionate about something, even it is just a game. Not only does he have a kind nature and a good reputation in school, but he is a good-looking and outgoing person as well.”
Lifting her eyes, she told him, “You might not know this, Ichihara-san, but there are numerous girls who want to be with him. Their reason for pursuing him might be different, but from my perspective, there can’t be any better person than Kazuki-senpai as a partner.”
With a chuckle, she said, “Sometimes I can’t believe that he agreed to date me. But here I am, confidently saying that I and Kazuki-senpai are in a relationship and want your blessings for a good future together.”
Both Ichiharas, one in front of her and one who was secretly listening to her confession from the kitchen, were frozen at their spots
Akihito couldn’t believe that those words came out of a sixteen-year-old girl….however, he couldn’t brush them off while saying that she was just exaggerating stuff. He could sense sincerity and pure honesty in her words.
Heaving a sigh, he released his folded arms and said, “Truthfully, I always remain concerned about what kind of partner he will choose and if she will take care of him or not.”
With a sad smile, he added, “As you must have already known, I barely come back home and have distanced myself from Kazuki quite a lot after his mother’s death.”
Kohana’s shoulders loosened their strength hearing that. However, before she could say anything the older one said,
“But now, I am stress-free…now that Kazuki has
you, I know he will be fine ”
Kohana soon followed, “But he needs his father as well, Ichihara-san.”
Kohana’s words made Akihito release a sigh. The man was now looking older than before with his face adapting a very weary look as he stared at his hand.
The place where he once wore a ring still made him recall that day when he lost his first love and his wife.
After that, he didn’t want to return home, that’s why he expanded his business and buried himself under work. Kazuki was the most prominent piece of their love and whenever Akihito looked at his child, Kazuki’s eyes reminded him of his wife.
“It’s too late, Kohana…even if I want to change things-”
“You can change things, Ichihara-san!” Kohana’s louder tone brought his eyes toward her.
Looking into his eyes, she firmly said, “It’s not like Senpai hates or anything. He told me some days ago how much he misses going to the park with you. That he still has that Lego set you gifted him years ago. Those pictures you had with him, he still has them in his picture album.”
With a soft smile, she added, “It’s not too late, sir. He misses you more than you can ever imagine. And looking at you now, I know you want to reconcile with your son as well…then why are you hesitating? He’s not a stranger, but your own child.”
Akihito’s eyes became moist hearing that. His shoulders relaxed as he realized his mistake. It wasn’t like he wasn’t aware but maybe Kohana provided him with the wake-up call needed for him to act rather than just to contemplate and regret.
Getting up, Akihito moved toward Kohana and rested his hand on her head.
With a soft smile, the man said, “You are a sweet girl, Kohana. Kazuki is lucky to have you.”
The girl blushed hearing that and lowered her head.
Akihito softly chuckled before turning around and calling out, “You can come out now, Kazuki.”
Hearing his words, Kazuki heaved a sigh and walked out of his hiding, while holding a tray, “Not like I was hiding or something. I just didn’t want to disturb you guys.”
Resting the tray on the table, he gave a cup to Kohana.
When he looked at her, she was signalling him to do something with her eyes.
Kazuki shook his head lightly, but when she made her eyes turn round and squeezed her lips in a pout, he was just left with no possible way of refusing.
Heaving a sigh, he took another cup, extended it toward his father and asked, “If you got the time, then stay with us for lunch.”
With a soft smile, Akihito took the cup and said, “If only you let me cook your favourite risotto.”
Kazuki turned around with a scowl and while urging Kohana to come with him, he said, “Do whatever you want.”
Kohana helplessly looked between the duo and couldn’t help but think,
‘They really love each other.’
