Chapter 12: Angel’s Mistake
“Confession?”
“Yes, after school today, someone called me to the back of the gymnasium. It’s probably a confession. It’s inevitable because I’m too cute.”
During a break one day, Angel, who sat in the next seat, said this lazily but somewhat proudly.
Despite everything, being popular with the opposite sex and getting confessed to probably felt nice. It was proof of her popularity, after all.
“Who’s the guy?”
“It’s Okazaki from the next class.”
“What, Okazaki?”
Okazaki was the guy who confessed to Hina earlier that month and got brutally rejected. To switch to Angel so soon after being turned down was surprising.
I wouldn’t say he had to pine for one person forever. But only half a month had passed, and he was already confessing to another girl, which seemed too fickle.
“Are you going to accept?”
“No way. He’s supposedly handsome and great at sports, but he’s not my type at all. If I accepted his confession, everything I’ve built up would collapse, so why would I? But… I’ll leave him some hope. And I’ll make sure he keeps worshipping me as a follower.”
Angel wore her usual angelic smile, the Angelic Smile, on the surface, but deep down, she seemed to smirk like a demon.
She had no intention of accepting the confession. But she’d leave the possibility of dating open, ensuring he’d continue serving her.
It was the very thought of a demon.
But I had one concern.
“I’ve said this before, but you should stop using people’s feelings to gain followers.”
By the way, Hina also got confessed to often, but she bluntly told them, “You don’t have a chance,” and cut them off. If they hated her for it, she thought that was fine.
“Takayasu, don’t people often call you a worrier?”
She brushed off my warning with an attitude that showed she didn’t care.
“…I hope nothing bad happens. Oh, the teacher’s here.”
Feeling a faint unease in my chest, I switched my focus to the next class.

After school, the day’s classes ended, and I packed my textbooks into my bag.
But I couldn’t stop thinking about Angel’s confession issue. Although I thought spying on someone else’s confession was wrong, I decided to check on her.
I got to the back of the gymnasium before her and hid in the bushes. Many plants grew there, so finding a hiding spot was easy.
After waiting five minutes, Okazaki arrived first at the back of the gymnasium. He took a hand mirror from his pocket and checked his hair and appearance while striking poses.
Somehow, I sensed a narcissistic vibe from him. If he was born handsome, maybe it was natural to love his own looks.
Five minutes later, Angel arrived at the back of the gymnasium, jogging lightly.
“Sorry, did I keep you waiting?”
Angel flashed her usual Angelic Smile and spoke to Okazaki.
“No, I just got here myself.”
Okazaki replied with a cool smirk, brushing his hair back confidently.
“So… Okazaki, what did you want to talk about?”
Acting like an innocent maiden who didn’t understand why a boy would call her after school, Angel asked him about his intentions with obvious pretense.
She had said it was a “confession” herself that morning. I barely stopped myself from shouting a retort.
“Angel, I can’t hold back my feelings anymore. Every time I see your lovely smile, my heart jumps like a freshly caught fish. Every time I touch your kind heart, my soul feels purified like a dish soaked in bleach. So… go out with me!”
Okazaki confessed to Angel while reciting a poem.
“Sorry, Okazaki. I… don’t really understand what it’s like to fall for someone. So, let’s just stay good friends?”
Angel replied to Okazaki’s confession like a pure, innocent maiden.
It was flawless acting. If I didn’t know her true nature, I might have been fooled.
Her response rejected the confession but left the possibility of dating her open… or so it seemed. In reality, there was no chance of dating.
“No way…”
“I’m really sorry.”
Okazaki looked disappointed by Angel’s response. Somehow, her face seemed to smirk, as if thinking, “This guy’s so easy, lol.”
But just when I thought the confession was over, Okazaki moved again. He approached Angel, breathing heavily, and tightly grabbed her hand.
“Then I’ll teach you what it feels like to fall for someone!”
“Huh, Okazaki!?”
“If you go out with me, you’ll understand. So date me, Angel. No, Akua!”
“Hey, let go!”
Leaving that possibility open was clearly a mistake. Okazaki couldn’t give up on Angel and pressed closer to her.
Angel seemed panicked, as if she hadn’t expected this. I’d always thought, despite her cunning, she was a bit careless in her plans.
“Akua! I love you!”
“No, that’s creepy! Someone help!”
Angel rejected Okazaki with her raw emotions slipping out.
This happened because she underestimated a serious admirer.
Stunned by the outcome, I decided to help her.
“Hey, hold on a second.”
“Takayasu!?”
“Who the hell are you?”
“Angel’s clearly uncomfortable. Let her go.”
I stepped between them and separated Angel from Okazaki. Angel quickly hid behind my back.
“You… you’re Takayasu from the next class, right? Don’t interfere!”
“No, that’s not it. Look at Angel. She’s obviously scared. Are you going to force yourself on someone who’s uncomfortable?”
“What did you say!?”
“Sorry, Okazaki. I’m… kind of scared of you.”
“See?”
“…Angel. You’re right. I came on too strong. I’ll reflect on it. So, will you reconsider going out with me?”
Having too much confidence was troublesome. Okazaki still tried to approach Angel, so I spoke for her since she was too shaken to respond.
“Do you think someone would fall for a guy who scared them? Use your brain a little.”
“…”
“Come on, let’s go.”
“Takayasu…”
Thinking it was bad to let them stay together any longer, I decided to pull her away. I took Angel’s hand and left the scene.
Okazaki didn’t follow, probably because my words hit home.
