Chapter 89: The Danger Starts Moving

“Why are you staring at me like that?!”

In the morning, though everyone was finally gathered together in the dining hall for once, Nia and Chloe were glaring at me. My feeling said I already knew the cause for their resentment. It must be because of how happy Rielle looked. Rielle was sitting next to me, smiling so happily. With blush still adorning her face, she would suddenly start flailing her legs wildly and letting out a creepy sounding giggle like ‘Uhihi~’. It was clear to see something had happened. Chloe and Nia turned their attention to me. Then, right when Nia and Chloe were glaring daggers at me, Rielle told them what had transpired yesterday. The atmosphere in the dining hall immediately turned icy cold.

“….Kai is not just juggling between two relationships. He’s juggling between three.”

“That’s right~ He made me and Nia so good, so of course it’s Rielle’s turn next~ Of course, of course~”

“Like I said, I didn’t do anything ye—”

I tried to refute, but the moment I looked at Rielle, who was sitting next to me, I choked on my words. Gone was the happy expression from earlier. Rielle’s eyes were wet with unshed tears and she looked like she was on the verge of bursting into tears. To say I hadn’t done anything wouldn’t eb technically true anyway. We spent about three or four hours hugging each other last night. 

“Umm… Is it alright if we stay like this for a while?”

After confessing her love to me while still in my embrace, Rielle said so. 

“Can I… Can I stay in your embrace like this? You don’t need to give the answer to my confession right away. Just… Let me stay like this.”

“But what if I want to give you my answer?”

“Then, do it with a hug. Not with words. Answer me with a hug…”

Though Rielle was mentally more mature than Nia, but her request was so innocent and adorable. I couldn’t help but to find her so incredibly cute. And so, I tightened my hold around her before answering. 

“…I love you too, Rielle.”

“Fu-Fueh?! I-I told you to not answer it verbally…!!”

“Ahaha~ Sorry about that. Alright. Let’s stay like this.”

And so, we spent our time basking in each other’s warmth in silence. We stayed wrapped in each other’s embrace for a long time. I felt like my heart was about to melt from the gentle head spreading from our embrace. It turned out hugging each other like this was more stimulating than I had expected. There was a pleasant tingle spreading from deep within my body. It seemed my desire was more honest than I had expected.

“U-Umm… Rielle?”

“Yes?”

“Do-Don’t you think it’s about time for you to start letting me go…?!”

Even though the atmosphere between us was so nice, but being this close to her made me feel strange. However, it seemed Rielle interpreted my words as a rejection, since she immediately looked up at me with unshed tears in her eyes. 

“…I can’t stay like this?”

“I-It’s not whether you can or can’t…! I-I’m not saying you can’t, it’s just….!”

“Then, give me another 10 minutes. Just another 10 minutes of hugging…”

“A-Agh….”

And then, 10 minutes later…

“Rielle? It’s been 10 minutes. Rielle…? Rielle..?!”

“… 10 minutes more.”

“Rielle?! Rielle?!?!”

In the end, those 10 minutes kept on piling up. I had to wait until Rielle had fallen asleep before I could be freed of her. Those ’10 minutes’ ended up to be extremely exhausting and painful for both my body and mind. I was truly at my limit back then. But!! I persisted! I was able to keep hugging her for about 4 hours!! I should be praised for this achievement, shouldn’t I?! I didn’t lay a hand on her despite hugging her for 4 hours straight!!!

“…Humph. You cheater.”

“Wha-?!”

Especially Chloe! Why were you turning your face away like that?! I was holding back with all of my might, you know?! If I had attacked first, I knew YOU would resent me for life! Hence why I had to hold back with my life hanging on it!! Ugh…! You…! You…!!!

“Umm… Chloe.”

“What is it?”

“Kai really didn’t do anything.”

But then, Rielle who had been looking all sad, immediately regained her composure and said so as she stared at Chloe.

“If he wanted to, he could’ve done… Well, all those things as much as he wanted. He knew I wouldn’t refuse him. Kai was holding back all night long.”

“…Is that so?”

“Yes. He must’ve held himself back for Chloe’s sake. He really endured it all for you, Chloe. I can tell that Kai really, really likes you, Chloe.”

“Ri-Rielle?! Wha-What are you talking about?!”

Suddenly hit with a bomb by Rielle, Chloe’s face turned bright red. After hearing Rielle’s explanation, Chloe then…

“..I-I…”

Though Chloe might be curt and cold normally, but now she was incredibly flustered. Her face was bright red and she was clearly avoiding my gaze.

Wha-What’s with this mood? What in the world is happening now…?!

While I was confused by the heavy weight of my overly affectionate comrades, Nia, who had been puffing her cheeks silently for a while, finally spoke up. 

“…Rielle, are you really fine with it? With the fact that Kai didn’t make any move on you?”

The villainous group that had been threatening the empire, Shadow, was at peace again today, just like always.

The young man who had just lost his soul was sitting by the bed while laughing maniacally. The high amount of magic power circulating within him was so powerful that it seemed this man could obliterate anything in sight, including the fake demons and those annoying imperial citizens. 

“I can kill them now… Hahahahaha!! I can kill them… If I don’t crush them soon…”

However, the man’s eyes had lost all of its shine. His eyes were empty and his lips couldn’t stop trembling. Saliva was dripping from his gaping mouth and he kept moving his head erratically. He had lost something essential as a human, something that made him human. In other words, this young man had turned mad. 

“…And this is the end of my guidance, Adolf.”

The monster disguised as a demon murmured softly as it looked down on the madman.

“Well, I don’t think you can even hear my voice anymore though. Hahaha… Yes, yes… The preparations for the finale are complete. All that remains is the protagonist’s choice.”

“Destroy… Destroy… The capital… Odell… Destroy…”

Just like what the monster said, the Crown Prince could no longer hear its words. The Crown Prince kept muttering the same words over and over again while spinning his head around. Seeing this, the monster’s grin grew even bigger. 

“Well then, time to open the curtain for the final act.”

“…Destroy…”

“I will witness it all. I guide everything and see this world return to its rightful state. I, myself, will oversee everything.”

Either the Crown Prince had simply gone mad or had lost his ability to hear. The Crown Prince kept muttering the word ‘destroy’ while rolling his eyes back. The monster looked up at the cloudy, gray night sky and murmured. 

“Now then. It’s time for the gear to start turning.”
